Ok – worst case scenario – assume megaserver or alliances goes ahead (I know some of you actually want this, but I don’t and there is a point to this that still matters to you).

TLDR: Anet – if you go with Alliances or Megaserver for WvW you need to provide us with an in game voice comms function that auto-assigns players to the correct channels.

Here’s why:
With the current Server system IoJ has a server wide TeamSpeak that all guilds can use. We verify players are actually on our server before allowing them out of the lobby. I suspect all servers have a system something like this.

If we have guild alliances, the guilds in your alliance may be from different servers – so you need an alliance TS. Oh, and you might change alliances, so player loyalty needs to be checked each time a match up occurs. What about the players in more than one guild? It’s unlikely each of their guilds will be in the same alliance…

OK, megaserver then. We need Green, Red, Blue TS servers capable of taking everyone who plays and uses TS… Again there is the issue of guilds/players changing sides particularly at the start of match ups. This is a lot of work.

I’m not even thinking about spying – just making sure I can talk to the people I’m supposed to be playing with.

Currently the funding for TS servers comes from players who care enough about their server to help crowd fund voice comms for it. I don’t see Megaserver generating the same level of loyalty or feeling of ownership. Alliances might, but players may be in several alliances, so any loyalty may be divided.

So if Anet creates this problem the least they can do is provide a solution too – an in game voice comms function that assigns WvW players to the correct channel as they change guilds/factions etc. This can be developed in house, or contracted out, but must be integrated into the game to allow auto allocation of channels.

So basically we’re now stuck on a TS server with our guild and only our guild coz we can’t afford the extra 200+ slots and getting a non profit license is extremely difficult, which one of the 3 guilds has to get a 300+ slot server in each alliance, will these alliances last causing TS servers to go unpaid/unused.

If you go with this Alliance system and scrap the servers you will kill all communication required to play WvW effectively, Voice comms are vital NO IF’S NO BUTS there is no way you can dispute this on any level even with your squad system, commands have to be issued lightning quick to wipe a blob/guild or you WILL DIE.

Without Teamspeak you WILL kill this new version of WvW before it even starts coz we can’t afford 300+ slot servers. 300 users is roughly 100 dollars a month not including all the spare slots you’d need for the extra members of the alliance so you’d realistically be looking at 500 slot server at roughly 150 dollars a month, are you going to pay for this because expecting one guild to pay for an alliance is bloody unreasonable. What if an alliance falls apart what then?, do we all shut the server down and loose money because of your ill concieved alliance system or will you reimburse us ?.

the Alliance system will kill WvW OUTRIGHT, no if’s no buts.

All you need to do is organize things, as you usually do, with the TS Server(s) you already have in place, it depends on how Alliances are implemented and who ends up in admin/leadership positions.

Before people left Desospeak for IRON speak, we used another Guild’s TeamSpeak Server, while people qq’d over some silly drama, so there are Servers already in place with an amount of slots; to be used and expanded if necessary.

Who would still be playing wvw if there were no TS or any other voice comp? Without it wvw is so boring (besides mb solo roaming).

You (OP) are asking Anet to either pay for some sort of voice comms service, or write one of their own. How likely do you really think that is? Here’s a hint: not a chance.

If the game is fun the community will find a way to make it work.

I expect we’ll reuse the server TS in the beginning. Some alliances will get their own, while others may share the cost between multiple alliances.

Administering could eventually be made easier by the anet devs:

  • Give us a place to enter our Teamspeak identity Unique ID.
  • Add an API call that takes the Unique ID as a parameter and returns what alliances the user attached to the Unique ID is a member of.
  • User joins alliance TS and is assigned a temporary group.
  • TS server has a cron job that integrates channel permissions with anet’s alliance member API.

The integration would probably work like this:

  • Cron job uses TS ServerQuery to list all clients in the temporary group
  • Get the Unique ID for each client
  • Query the anet alliance member API by the client Unique ID
  • Get back a list of alliances the user is a member of
  • Check if any channel names match the alliance names
  • Update client permissions and remove from temporary group

Or…

Get into a guild that runs WvW and use their TS if they have one when you WvW with your guild.
(It’s like their pushing it to be a bit more guild-centric rather than world-centric…)
(Though, in GW1, in AB’s I would get kittened off at the people AB’ing on one side and would switch sides just to kill’em, then switch again once the other side kittened me off…)

That is if WvW is still a thing and people do it post alliance/megaserver patch.

Even if they did implement in game voice comm’s, what’s to stop someone from logging onto their alt account that is on another faction and spying?

With TS we can control who we let in…. WvW megaservers is just a fail idea on so many levels.

If they ran their own voice communication system, they’d also be liable for providing support for it.

I can see already the tickets they’d have to respond to, people saying so-and-so called them a bad name, pls ban, with no way of being able to verify it unless they record the communication.

It’s just a massive headache they will not do. They already fail to do the bare minimum for what have right now.
