Alliance vote
How would that not go wrong assuming everybody wants to win?

Well if they start off having people on a server vote for what “alliance” they are part of then when anet unveils whatever big change that is supposed to come in January then if anet makes new servers people will possibly know who they may like for an alliance or battlegroup or whatever anet is doing.
Its an interesting idea. I just don’t think anyone has ever come up with a solid solution on implementation that moves us away from stacking. I’ve been in a few guilds over the years that enjoy being the underdog. But they are the exception.
I am not certain that new servers would function all that well without some sort of incentive to move. Resetting the Glicko rating would help. Our core group of WvW players often seems to operate in a manner different than how Anet expects us to function. Polls are tough considering anyone can take a poll! We need something new to rejuvenate the game mode. Right now I feel like the players are driving the bus which isn’t how it should be.

Don’t move away from stacking…embrace it…move towards using over-stacked servers as a huge target that rewards more for attacking servers above your rank & rewards less for attacking servers below your rank.
Assign each server 1 map.
Then remove the Tiers & Implement World Server Guesting with Limitations on How many & Which Servers player can weekly visit to fight on.
Let players pick their own Match-Ups…instead of having to wait for 2 months for World Linking to change the dynamics.
There’s a better Long Term design for WvW…that’s a solid solution…imho
