Another thing to add is that some tactivators meant for the desert borderlands like the Watchtower is total BS and it kittens the scouts or smaller groups trying to take objectives.

Also the maps are too small, it’s super easy to get anywhere, more with the new powers and elite specializations, the maps are clearly not balanced or tested for all the new options and toys we have.

This is simple truth.

keep in mind folks, this thread is not pointing to “lets go back to DBLs” no. it’s saying “Lets FIX alpine BLs”.

The fixes anet did to the core DBLs before they rotated them out were pretty good (minus killing the orb-laser event. lots of good fights happened during that event)

Apart from the first week of the Deserted BL, never had a fight at the laser event. After the first week it was just ignored by our servers as being a PVE event. The occasional roamer party might spend some time doing it but mostly we’d be busy trying to find the enemy- and outside of prime that would just be on EB as no one bothered with Deserted.

There is nothing wrong with most of the treb placements apart from the ones in Citadel which should be fixed as they are exploiting a bug to throw a treb where it is very hard to kill it off.

NPC guards in camps and towers are at the right level, no need to adjust, and you could remove the two NPC ‘events’ that spawn mobs and 99% of us wouldn’t notice apart from to say ‘hooray, less pve’.

Outmanned buff needs adjustment.

The maps aren’t too small, the idea is that it should be easy to reach the battles which is where the fun is. Walking back for 5 minutes after dieing isn’t fun, it’s tedious. Ask anyone who tried ESO’s massive battlefield- with a mount it took so long no one wanted to die in case they faced the endless run back..

Not had a problem capping in Alpine with small groups- it’s been fun.

DBL had som enice scenes though….I liked a lot of it esp the west side and SW corner at night. I took my sweet girl out for a cold desert night there.

I agree that the orbs (relics) coming back would be awesome. They were so fun. They created some of the best fights.

It did tend to make the strong stronger though. To change this Anet could make it only an advantage for the losing/weaker servers.

I think it is a nice idea to only make the orb give the non-leading server a boon. That way the leading server would not get stronger still but would want to keep the orb out of the other server’s hands to prevent them from benefiting from it.

As for the thread and the ideas promoted, as well as the “problems” outlined, I can only conclude that we really do not see things the same at all me and the OP.

The reliks i doubt they will be introduced due same reasons they were removed, and it was a good decision let them keep that way.

Sirbeaumerdier.3740 and Johje Holan.4607:, IF u guys want orbs back, the mechanics itself needs to be different, and what improvement would do to the game?
Best way to avoid exploits of grabbing the orb and fly away would be needed to pack it on a doyliak and protect it as an event.

Another thing that needs to be adress (in my opinion)is when 2 blobs atack a 3rd homeland and they need to split forces, this enforcing playing own Bl with splited forced it does not have the feel of being at home, wich means that is arround 2 groups of 40 for 2 groups of 80 , sometimes less for 2 stacked groups.

The sugestion would be remove South west and East camps so that the home server dont need to splits or run like a maniac form hills to bay hills to bay hills to bay hills to bay… well you guys get the idea…

By removing the left and right camp, would lead to fights for the atacking servers for dispute over the central south map, thus that camp could have some compensation because woould be desirable camp, it could be adder some small defensive structures to help the atacking server holding the camp, some sorta of accampment for the troops while it is owned, or a defensive outpost/supple while homeland owns it.

A server homeland should be a bit harder for the atacking team, with this i think it would create more encounters, more decisions to be made, and more strategie.

South camp outpost concept:
-> Claiming system wich meant cant be soloed, since structure is more designed for defense/group invasion, needed 5-10 claims (players to claim it).

-> Defensive structures (minor wooden wall with 2 or 3 opens, no gates, and 1 or 2 wooden towers where players can build pre made cannon like ruins.

-> 2x veins of supply inside the outpost with 2x capacity , since 2 supply camps were removed, who would not want that camp?

Another possible sugestions to Alpine map:
->Stairs from Spawn to Garrison, huge gate gets closed if Garrison is conquered, players loose that fast advantage.

-> When garisson weypoint is summoned, main waypoint is disabled, this to balance a bit the movement for the north camp and north towers.

So another idea to go along with the Idea of NPC Neutral (capturable) towers to be placed at the Skrit(owned by NPC Skrit) Northern West Corner of BL, and the Centaurs in the Northern East Corner of the BLs.

Have control of those towers(which also make you allies with those NPCS) provides Zone wide buffs for your Server.
Centaur Tower:
•Provides a +10 movement speed increase Buff(that stacks with current movement speeds you have, but maxes out at 33% movement speed).
•Sends NPCS to capture / Defend North supply camp, and NE supply Camp.

Skrit Tower:
•Provides a +10% damage increase Buff to all Siege weapons in that zone for your Server
•Sends NPCs to capture / Defend North Supply Camp and NW supply camp

These Towers do not provide any PPT.
These Towers do get upgraded.
These Towers Maybe could even earn a Waypoint…

Giving these locations buffs that promote more WvW is a good thing. You seem to have a hard time seeing the game outside of your tiny little bubble. It’s one of the reasons why you were not able to coup with the change of the maps to the desert BLs.

Alpine is designed to concentrate the fight around the keep / tower… If you spread more the players then you will have the same issue that we have on DBL > map too big, people avoid each other…
ABL is fine… The only issue for me on this map is the south east tower… The only value of this tower is to build the watch tower guild upgrade to see who move to hills…
But except that this tower is useless for the attacker. Unlike the 3 others who can be used to attack the keep.

And the map layout make that now on ABL the watch tower upgrade is very usefull on all tower. Before on DBL this upgrade was useless… Just allow us to avoid to place a scout… But on ABL those tower cover path to the keep (at least some path).

map size was not the issue for DBLs, it was the combo of no waypoints, barriers, and player refusal to learn a new layout.

DBL was fine after they did the WvW patch to them.

The alpine maps need work. They are stale. WvW is only popping now because the servers have been combined. You still find empty BLs maps.

And DBL have major layout issue ! Like the useless tower… Yes tower are completly useless on DBL…. Except PPT (lot of people don’t care about PPT) there is no change if you control the tower or not…. Ennemy can take it, this change nothing to the futur fight…

DBL need to be completly review… Tower need to be moved, keep and tower need to be smaller and less maze… Wall need to be lower to be able to do something against proxy cata and being able at least to throw siege disabler.

ABL have none of those issue, ABL work fine to push players to fight each other for structures.

Yes ABL is old, yes lot of people (including me) wanted a new map, just to refresh the game. But DBL is a big fail…. It’s EOTM and not WvW…

On your server, maybe. Mine still has bigger queues on the Alpine maps than on EB. Also, considering the two servers we’re fighting also have huge numbers on the Alpine maps, it seems the same for those servers, too.

The map could maybe do with an aesthetic overhaul but I wouldn’t want them to change the fundamentals of the map.

I do agree that the lake tower is probably the objective in most dire need for a change.
The issue is that it has far too many weak spots (catapults in the tunnel, trebs in the ruins, trebs in hills) and it doesn’t really serve a purpose other than helping to cut off hills from supply deliveries by the south camp… which will promptly cause the guys in hills to drop a treb and start shooting.

The only crime, turrets committed, is being good against the celestial meta.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

Passive Movement speed increase, and increase siege damage for 2 objectives that don’t reward PPT, are very much WvW centered. Speed is Key for WvW, to be able to cross the map faster with your troops can turn the tide of battle.

Having increase siege damage can allow your troops to take down that keep door faster, or protect your keep longer.

I think they could have Charr-style bases like Exterminatus HQ and Temperus Point (No gates, but strong turret defenses and defensible terrain), where teams can build Tanks for their side, as long-range mobile siege.
