Am I doing something wrong ?
Either your matchup population is dead or you need to track better. Either focus on tracking roamers through watching sentries and camps being taken on the map (and how fast they are being taken) or intentionally take an obvious route when taking camps on an enemy border. Also lol get used to dying.

On Desolation you shouldn’t be having any difficulty finding fights. It sounds to me like you need to work on your map awareness a bit. Try scouting from a tower or keep for a while and watch you map a lot to see what’s being attacked. You’ll soon see patterns that you can use to interrupt the attackers.
In theory, roaming in wvw sounds amazing
Running around avoiding dangers, completing small-scale missions and most importantly fighting people – 1 at a time or even multiple enemies at onceBut in reality, I just find it terrible
It usually takes me 5-10 minutes to find a fight
Everytime I die I spend around 5 minutes getting to a place that may have enemies
And half the times i just get zerg-faced half way through a fightWhen i do find fights I can have a great time
But it’s mostly just running around not doing anything
Am I doing something wrong ?Btw, Im on Desolation server
And mostly roam on weekends at nights, so maps are usually full
Sounds about right for roamers…. Except finding a fight in 10 minutes, that’s pretty quick, sometimes I’ve run 5-6 laps around SM and still nothing
….. And Elementalist.
I hit the look behind button about once every 3 seconds or so. Most roamers deaths are from being ambushed. If you see the enemies you can either run from the big group or fight them starting on equal footing (or even ahead if they aren’t using their look behind button enough.)
Prime time is usually when Guilds raid, so avoid that if you want to, try playing before or after if you want to avoid the large groups – besides the usual night zergs.
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.
If your server is too dead for roaming, maybe help build it up.

So you didn’t read. He’s from Desolation, a T1 EU server. He’s complaining about his opponents, not his own guild.
Anyhoo, try out T1 NA servers. We always have roaming action going on, especially on EBG, where the area North West of SMC is often reserved for Fight Clubs and dueling.

I’m on Seafarer’s Rest and I always have a blast roaming. I’ve roamed on lower tier severs and high tier servers on both NA and EU. I’ve been solo roaming for about a year now and it never gets boring to me.
I’ll suggest some things for you that might enhance your experience: First, try not looking for fights. Roaming isn’t about fights despite what a lot of people might think. Roaming is about being a special op for your server, completing small tasks like killing yaks, flipping camps, etc. Fights are a bi-product of your ventures not the focal point.
Second, take on bigger obstacles. Do things like setting up ballistas to kill siege in enemy towers/keeps, tap tower/keep gates to annoy the enemy and to keep them paranoid, troll around merc camps (hylek/dredge/ogre) for solos that you can assassinate and see how many towers you can snipe. Personally I love YOLO capping towers during prime time. I’ll set up a cata or ram and pray to god I don’t get zerged before I get inside. Once I’m in, I make a quick survey of my map and surroundings before going for the lord. You’d be surprised at how easy it is to snipe towers if you’re smart about timing.
And lastly, don’t stress over anything. As a roamer, you’re free to go where the wind blows. Don’t make objectives, just do what seems most entertaining to you at the time. When I roam, I don’t think to myself, “okay, I’m going to take this and that, attack this and fight these guys.” I wander in random directions, capture objectives, make scout calls, get in to fights, etc. with no predetermined goals. It’s a do-it-at-your-own-pace job that only requires you to do one thing: pay attention. The better your eyes on the back of your head can see the longer you’ll stay alive. Know when you’re pushing your luck, always check your back and flanks and pay attention to /map chat incase it concerns your location. You can be laid back about having no specific objectives but you’ve always got to be on guard or you won’t last long.
Just remember that WvW isn’t PvP and it isn’t PvE. It’s PvPvE. You don’t have to focus on fighting other players and you don’t have to focus on fighting NPC’s. Do a combination of the two and be useful to your server by contributing to PPT.
If you ever see a Gold Colonel from [SwAg] around don’t let me go (; If I can take your towers, or even your keep, I’ll do it without a second thought and take on whoever comes my way.
Happy travels and I hope you better learn to enjoy roaming!

Also lol get used to dying.
I also forgot to mention this :P. If you’re solo, especially if you’re solo on a T1 server, get used to dying. It doesn’t make you bad it’s just a part of the experience. You’re going to get zerged, you’re going to get ganked, heck you might even get overwhelmed by NPC’s, it happens. If you can’t handle dying you might want to stick to zerging because roaming is a perilous job. I pride myself on staying alive as long as I do because I rarely have to respawn and repair. But there are unavoidable deaths that occur and it doesn’t upset me and it shouldn’t upset you either. So again, get used to dying!

Going out solo can be frustrating on T1. Even if you are a better player pound for pound you will rarely encounter a 1v1. I might ask in map if there are are others running havoc who have a spot in group (you said you play prime time).
I have a video on learning to fight while outmanned

It won’t “fix” anything but it might get you enough space and time to port or wait for reinforcements.

Ok, i really do get old.

oh that’s when it gets desperate, hanging around an enemies waypointed SM is generally a hotspot for fights, mostly on blue side or the east side for duels if the Os is empty but seeing as my latest match ups have had FA and DB in them there has only been blobs and freight trains

There are some tricks to make roaming more anjoyable :
1) play in enemy BLs – it takes less time to find action than running from the citadel/garrison, roam where you have bay/hills WP to make it faster.
2) use objective as baits, take a camp or a sentry and wait for the enemy to claim it back, you can also empty the supplys building ACs and ram to kitten off the enemy.
3) kill dolyaks going to garrison/keeps, this way the enemy will try to hunt you down
I’m on Desolation too and don’t have much trouble roaming.
My best experiences have always been on opponent’s BLs because theres usually fewer zergs than EB and you never have to travel far for a fight.
I think your probably playing at the busiest hours as well, roaming tends to happen when its not at peak times.
I usually roam with a small group of around 3 people and the challenge of taking towers is really enjoyable for me. 3 v 3 fights are just the best

This is basically all i do when I play. Maybe find a good roaming guild and go with two or three people, as that too can be fun. Learning to disengage fights as a roamer deffinetly helps keep the ball rising, and if you can, hiding in towers and keeps than soloing is one of my favorite things to do. Doesn’t even have to be your server attacking the tower. Also, always have golems for solo tower caps

Alright, thx for all the comments guys.
I’ve been having a bit of better time roaming last weekend
Probably because I approached it with a different mindset
Where do you guys find it best to roam
Etternal Battlegrounds / Your BL / Enemy’s BL / Edge of the mists ?
And what areas on those maps specifically ?
When I roam I almost always go to an enemy BL. If our BL is all ours I’ll go there because usually there will be roamers/small groups taking camps/sentries in the south.
In an enemy BL I take 2 camps and patrol between them, usually south and whichever is closest to our spawn. Tap all keeps and towers nearby, and if no one comes along add a 3rd camp. My favorite camp to defend is quarry. People coming to take it usually drop over the cliff and you can tag them before they OOC regen. The tower in the middle is good for LoS, and the mini cliffs can be used to separate you and melee. You can also kite them to the jump puzzle/skritt or back to the vet wurm, both are tucked away so there’s less chance of other people adding.
My best advice for BLs is pull fights to the outside of the map or to the center capture zones, and try your best to laugh each time you die.
