TLDR: new WvW Mechanics which I think will improve the system which require a revise to scoring
Dear Dev Team,
First, I’d like to start of saying that I really enjoy your game. I want this game to succeed because there has been an MMO gap in my gaming experience for so long which GW2 currently fills.
I have noticed a trend in the forums lamenting the current system in WvW and addressing numerous issues about how it is or isn’t fun. I’ve spent a significant amount of time thinking about how to improve the system so that this game does not lose people or change into a more negative community.
I’d like to address the current scoring system. I actually think the mechanic of points for supply camps/ towers/ and keeps is a perfectly good idea. I think the big issue is accumulated deficit and the subsequent demoralization and thus lack of players logging in to play WvW.
I was fortunate enough to be in the YB/ SoR/ NSP battle last week which was for lack of a better word: epic. I saw healthy population across all three servers the entire week.
I do believe there are population imbalances that need to be addressed at some point but instead, I wanted to present a simple, alternative scoring system which will really allow the whole week to be competitive and fun for everyone.
Each day the points should reset to 0 and a tally for best of 7 should be kept for the week. So at 8PM EST the scoreboard should reset and whoever has the most points at 7:59PM the next day should win a point for the day. This simple adjustment would make the games competitive for at least 4 days instead of the current “2” because a team that dominates in the weekend essentially runs to win the rest of the week due to the aforementioned problem. So how do we push the game to be competitive for all 7 days?
The orbs.
On the 7th day of the matchup, each orb should count for 2 points to the team that holds them at the end of the game. This will provide even 2 teams with a 5/1/1 deficit to really put their best effort forward all the way through to try to secure a 3 orb advantage at the end of the game. In the event of a tie breaker given the point system, the accumulated points built throughout the week can serve as the determinant.
The system is a bit rough but I think it would fundamentally change the incentives and scoring of the game so that players will log on when they can, contribute in a good manner to their team (go Yaks!) and provide WvW with a steady stream of players.
I would love to hear other people’s feedback on how to improve this system below. I’d appreciate that if you came up with an alternative system to start a new thread so that this thread doesn’t lose focus. If you don’t think it’ll work, I’d also like to hear that as well. Just please provide why.
