The reward for Obsidian Sanctum (OS) needs to be MUCH higher. A place that used to have some of the best PvP battles in the game is now totally dead. I used to be able to hop in and spend hours there in fun fights, and now there’s just silence all day long, at all hours.

It was nerfed when the chest became account bound. It was nerfed when they took it out of WvW, thus making it impossible to tell people you were offering ports. It was nerfed further when badge farming became easy in EOTM. Now it’s just dead.

They need to do 2 things to fix it.

1) Make the loot equivalent to a world boss chest
2) Make all red/green/blue servers go into the same OS map, EOTM style.

Do these 2 things anet, please, and bring back what used to be a great part of this game.

That last suggestion is a very good idea… it would then open up gvg between servers that are not in the same match up.

If they can create overflows like eotm that 2nd suggestion would be really nice. The drop from them jp chest can also be improved a bit.

While I agree that the loot from the chest could be improved (superior blueprints, maybe?), I don’t think that rares and exotics are the way to go here. That would only bring more PvE farmers to the site.

2) Make all red/green/blue servers go into the same OS map, EOTM style.

Please, no! There’s already so much ganking and zerging going on in the spawn area, it isn’t funny. Overflowing OS would be the death sentence for duels and small scale fights because of constant zerging in the arena and at choke points of the jumping puzzle.

These days we burn down the karka queen in seconds. Why should I bother with a jumping puzzle that can take hours, for a siege blueprint that I can make in the mystic toilet?

There are plenty of other world bosses. I still don’t see any reason for OS puzzle.

But go ahead, give us a good reason to go there. Superior siege prints isn’t good enough.

Better earn a world boss chest, then. Throw a world chest type boss into the mix – one that can stomp randomly and shake people off of ledges or interrupt jumps. Maybe even damage the route forward such that you have to burn supplies to repair it. And it should be impossible to solo, ultimately found on a small platform, and you are likely to find yourself being affected by any aoes that people from other servers drop on it.

You want the loot? Earn it. Otherwise… it’s a jumping puzzle – it already gives you all you deserve for running through a familiar maze and hitting the pellet-dispensing lever.

The RGB split ala eotm would most likely be looked at as the best possibility for the GvG scene… only 33% chance to be unable to fight your chosen opponent guild.

My personal recommendation in this matter is keep it how it is, as far as servers go, but allow the chest to be looted by all of my characters. This would preserve a sense of ‘server-identity’ or whatever the word would be, and at the same time breathe life back into those dreary halls.

Back at launch there was not only awesome pvp combat but also the whole portal/camping meta. You portal all 8 of my toons, I portal of yours in return, all the while trying to keep your portaller safe from the enemies. Or, best of all, kill the enemy mesmer and ‘retake control’ of the EBJP. This made people actually want to spend time there beyond a single quick personal chest loot for a pittance of badges and maybe a ballista or some green item. Ill never forget some of the devious and genius camping battles with TC and FA back in the day. You were able to build siege (removed because ppl would ‘steal’ supply from the actual wvw match in progress, understandable i GUESS, but holy kitten the battles!) Mesmers would call in eb map chat for players to brings supply if they wanted ports for building siege at the top of the spiral well or battle pit. (hence EBJP becomes its own map, and this was awesome to those of us well versed in camping/jumping/portalling)

Bring back multiple character chest looting, and bring back the real beauty of the place. I honestly dont even care if the loot stays junk, so long as people will spend more time there and the portalling games of old can resume.

That’s the only time it was popular really, people wanted their Legendaries because for some reason they think they have to get a silly skin.

Hahaha.

Now that’s evil. I am a little concerned that OS is just not a very good map for a WvW dungeon though. It’s full of chokepoints that are going to be impossible to break through, even without the siege equipment anymore.

I do like the idea, but it’d have to be on a different map. The arena is a good reason to merge the servers on the puzzle, but ideally it needs a way to choose which map you end up on, to make organising guild fights a bit easier.

If they added a different dungeon zone (perhaps more than one) with a less difficult layout, it might make a good venue for a world boss chest.

Actually, it could just be a reworked GW1 Underworld.

I had great fun there back in the day also, spent a lot of time inside fighting my way through the puzzle and killing groups coming up the well, duelling enemies and generally having some awesome small scale play. There was indeed an element of tactics when there was siege up there, but that said there was still one before it became a separate map. I’d love to see it repopulated – not EotM style mind, just enough for some nice small scale and without those Waypoints at the beginning, it should kick you back to LA or something and have a portal back, just like before it was made separate. Else you’d have Zerg battles there and insta respawning winning fights; I would know xD we had a 30 man queue there and commanders zerging around on the first day of this season rubbish, whilst everyone waited for the 300 man EB queue (cough cough thanks for destroying our server with that free transfer crap ANet).

Well for me OS is the best place in the game currently.I really love and respect what players have done with the dueling system and the gvg.Ofc there are always trollers and gankers but they are usualy so bad they get ridiculed fast and give up.

I have spent countless hours dueling in OS or zerging gankers with no particular reward.

Sorry, but how does a team controlling the Jumping Puzzle and offering Portals to the end encourage people to participate in PvP in there? All that did was fill it with the strongest server and a small group had little to no chance of getting to the end.

The jumping puzzle died when they added Badges of Honor to the Achievement reward chests, making it so that players who hated PvP didn’t have to get their Badges of Jump anymore.

Turning Obsidian Sanctum into EotM would also kill the arena they specifically made for guilds wanting to fight one another in there.
