Hey Anet, keep it up and even getting 200 wvw ranks will be impossible as we’ve all quit the game in disgust.

WvW is your golden goose and you’re starving it to death. WvW is the only thing that GW2 can offer that many other games cannot.

My biggest problems with WvW are:

1) Skill lag – makes the game completely unplayable at times. This is the most important and problematic one of them all.

2) World XP is not shared on your account, meaning I’d have to grind for hundreds of hours per character just to max out the world traits. I feel like having extra characters holds me back rather than helping me get ahead – which is just ridiculous and should never happen. I like to have fun with the different classes in WvW, but the world xp discourages that heavily; they should do the same thing they did with the account bank and make it so the next time we log into our characters, it banks our World XP to an account based progression rather than character based.

3) No new maps or new mechanics being released to make WvW more interesting or fun. I’m tired of looking at the same two maps, one of which is repeated between three zones.

Comes down to population. Fewer people populate sPvP or WvWvW than people who populate PVE. I would love to see WvW get some major attention, but I don’t see this coming for quite some time. (I figure Feb of 2014 at the earliest since the holiday’s are coming up soon) Unfortunately companies have to work on what makes money at the time its making it. As long as people keep spending gems on PVE items, PVE will be the primary focus.

Rather weird to compare different type of game when talking about e-sports though. The only game on your list that can actually be somewhat compared is WoW, since that is the only other MMO on there. And WoW is quite small (if not non-existent) on the e-sport market.

The Guild Wars is ancient history. There are more pressing issues in the world now, especially since 2 out of the 3 kingdoms involved in said war no longer exists.

Do you realize that WvW will NEVER pay the bills? They have to go with SPvP, or PvE, but that’s it. PvE brings in cash, and SPvP might have a chance at an esport (I don’t think GW2 is anywhere close to remotely being close to ready, but that’s a different discussion). WvW brings almost nothing to the sustainability of the game.

Ask yourself this, how many people do you know in WvW that have spent 50$ or up on the game post release? If you’re wvw friends are like mine your answer will be 1/2. While I’ve spent over 200$ on the game, and most of my friends that PvE put in 30$ or so a month towards the game. Maybe it’s just my experience, but PvE players seem to put their money into the game, while WvW players don’t. I’m fairly certain Anet has noticed this too, and while they aren’t entirely ignoring WvW they are going with their money makers.

This should be a good thing though. In the end it means that eventually they will get around to doing better stuff for wvw. They won’t if they can’t keep the doors open though, and they need to do two things for that: 1) FIX SPVP/TPVP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and 2)keep PvE players happy. Then when they have a chance they can fix WvW.

Btw for anyone here that thinks "oh this guy never wvws, doesn’t pvp, etc please look at my history. I’ve put so much into wvw. I’m just being honest here, and I think if more of you were honest about how important WvW is overall you would say the same.

here’s the thing though. WvW players have no problem with sharing their attention. we have a problem with getting a few table scraps, and then ignored for months, while there’s a constant stream of updates, patches, and bug fixes going to PvE. we don’t want to monopolize their time in any way, shape or form. we just want our fair share, which if you dig back through each of the patch notes since launch, we haven’t gotten. even the “big WvW patch” in march was lackluster in comparison to every living story patch since then.

all we’ve gotten is a bunch of empty promises about the things that we need, and forced to accept a few minor things that we didn’t even want. it’s like if a kid asks their parent for something to eat, because they’re starving to death and the parent gives them a barbie doll. sure, the kid might shut up for a little bit, but eventually he will starve to death. and that’s the point we’re at now with WvW.

As long as they are paying the bills, they have that privalege. Maybe if WvW players put their money where their mouths are we wouldn’t have this problem. Sadly the characterization that most wvw players are cheap seems to be true. Sure a few spend money, but you should see how much PvE players put into the game. I’m mostly a pvp/wvw player and I’ve still put in enough to have all of my character slots, plenty of blk,kite,minis etc. So it can be done, but with that said you should see the stupid amounts of money PvE players put into the game.

As long as they are paying the bills let them continue to get updates every 2 weeks. I used to think the same way you guys are now. I wanted wvw, and pvp updates more often. Then I said “well if they do that, the pve players get angry and stop paying the bills for a few weeks”. It’s not worth it in the end, so I will be happy with what I get.

I already took one three month hiatus, and after doing a clear OS install the other night, doubt I’ll even bother installing GW2 again. WvW can still be extremely fun, but there’s simply too much hassle and the devs stewarding it inspire zero confidence for moving the format in the right direction.

With the rank system and high economic inflation, coming back when or if things improve is even less attractive.

I’m not sure what everyone is complaining about. The dev’s (either J-Dawg or Devon, but i cant remember) told us that we are getting 1) new maps “sooner than we might think” 2) a replacement for the orb system, and we can assume 3) bug fixes along with that. In the meantime we get these WXP upgrade lines constantly being added so that we can customize how we are going to enjoy our WvW experience. (Plus all of this content is being added without a subscription fee).

TLDR; Buck up my friends, change is coming.

The new matchup system is better than the old one. Seriously, how much longer did you want to fight AR/EB for?

Edit: All I want them to do is fix the broken party system. Tired of remaking groups to kick one guy. I don’t care about new maps, lots of people still don’t know how to play the ones we got. WXP bein account wide would be nice but I can live with how it is. There’s nothin mandatory about it and you’ll just get most everythin eventually anyway.

I agree that right now WvW DOES NOT pay the bills…..so it’s the least in the priority list…

As was stated, it’s not so much that we don’t appreciate the new stuff (I do), but I would hope that the stuff they have added has no taken anything away from fixing the higher priority issues that are truly affecting or breaking game play…

I also think that WvW.. COULD pay the bills if done correctly and implemented correctly. There are all sorts of things you could add to the gem store for world vs world to get WvW players to spend money…and if they actually put some godkitten effort into WvW…more than likely those players would stick around longer and not wax and wane with every content update…

to be fair, we were told all of that months ago, and nothing has come of it. when anet says “soon” they really mean “never”. we learned that when they said the rewards for yak escorting will be coming back in “soon”. through their own actions, they’ve conditioned us to expect nothing from them. and that’s just what we’ve gotten. do they really think people will stick around for continued neglect once any other option becomes available on the market? it doesn’t even need to be a good option at this point. just any other game with a WvW-like game in it.

Hell yeah they could. They could actually make WvW more competitive. They could have a twitch channel for WvW, stuff like that. They just run a huge risk because if it doesn’t pay off Anet’s out a good bit of money.

Have you seen our weeks matchups? Instead of it being AR (better 1v1 pvp bar far on AR) vs EB exact opposite but huge freaking numbers. Now it’s HUGE NUMBERS vs HUUUUUUGGGGGGEEEEEEEEE NNNNNNNNNNNUUUUU.. you get the point. The only thing that has changed

WvW was a stillbirth. Everyone I knew from DAoC was looking forward to having RvR 2.0 with a fresh engine, netcode and decent control scheme. All the things that DAoC didn’t offer. But WvW just never delivered. Only Soldier’s gear. Extremely tedious loot system. No real grouping. Downed state. No dedicated healers. Broken buff/debuff stack system. Overpowered classes. Bugs and exploits up the rear. Having to tag every single target to get any reward. Broken CC and immunities. Nigh-instant respawn. The list goes on. So again, every serious 8vs8 player I knew quit the game after at most 2 months.

Fact is, most people who enjoy e-sports (including me) will invest time in whatever the type is (MMOs, MOBA).

On what server, it’s mostly fallen on everything except the top 5 or 6. The matchup system for wvw is crap. Plus the new solo queue looks pretty sweet.

I am personally on Underworld and have been since release and I would say it is quite busy most of the time.
It is also a fact that ArenaNet themselves have stated that the population in WvW is increasing.

That is a rather bold statement. Since when are you representing “most people”?

Someone that follows SC2 e-sport is most likely more interested in RTS than MMO for one. Just as someone who follows CS would be more interested in FPS.

I think its very shortsighted by Anet to slack this much on the development front. Contrary to what many argue here, I do in fact believe that WvW pays the bills or at least partly so. An MMO is dependant on players. For WvW to be interresting, for anyone (even casual PvE visitors), ther has to be enemies to fight. We, in this case the players, provide the content that keep others around. And I’m willing to bet anything that, while not all, some of the players that enjoy WvW do in fact spend money for items or gold.
So, losing WvW players is a loss of revenue and I think its significant enough to warrant more new content then one npc by the name of Siegerazer.

Before the argument that making maps are hard and takes time, coding is not as easy as one might think, I want to argue that if I could only do what’s easy and fast in my job it would probably not be considered a job at all.
These people get payed to work. Time to see some result of that work.

I can tell you there is SIGNIFICANT lost revenue in guilds that have literally stopped playing this game and moved onto another because this game got stale in WvW and that was the only reason they were around. We’re talking WHOLE 400+ person guilds (maybe only around 200 or so active at the time). Across multiple servers…if the content was there they would have stayed which would have translated into $$$$ for Anet….

WvW – just got a new mastery, runes and sigils to play with, and champ bags

spvp – just got solo que

pve – got champ bags and pve (runes and sigils change pve exp very little)

looks pretty even to me or if anything mostly in our favor. By improving pve they are also improving wvw.

About the loot:
We have champ bags now they are much better. I have not really noticed a loot diff otherwise, but It would make sense with the addition. Also a good step to put a damper on kill trading.

Oh give them some credit it’s only been 11 months, what can a development team really do in 11 months?

PvE exclusive content to include major redesigns of PvE zones, mini-games, dungeons, titles, achievement tracks, whole new zones, and rewards are much easier to implement than to fix one element in the core functionality of the user interface in WvW. Clearly we’re impatient, biased, and totally unreasonable.

1 moderate sized lvl 80 area, multiple Halloween maps, 6 mini-event dungeons, One ultra-large sized meta event that lasted 3 hours, 2 holidays filled with content, 2 city sized explorable areas (that won’t be seen for at least another year), 3 new SPvP maps, ~18 major reworks of skills and traits.

Meanwhile in WvW:
They removed some consumables, they removed dolyak escort rewards, and they removed orbs.

They “fix” culling and introduce major graphical errors and unplayable lag.

They introduce Wxp, as a character bound trait. They miss an opportunity for a gold-sink (no refund-ability on WXP traits) and gem sales (no Wxp booster yet).

So to recap. PVE has had about 1 full expansion worth of free content. Even the much neglected SPvP has had 3 new maps.

WvW had a bunch of stuff removed, had a needed fix to the engine then turned around and broke it twice as much.
They raised server population caps to exacerbate WvW disparity; then added a random matchmaking component to guarantee that 1/3 of all servers would HATE WvW that particular week.

They introduce ONE form of progression rewards for WvW, that’s non-refundable, highly gimmicky and AGAIN, favors higher ranking WvW servers.

Meanwhile they have either promised or hinted at the following:
Rewards for dolyak escorts that were tweaked to not be exploitable (NOT DONE)

Return the orbs with new mechanics (NOT DONE)

New Maps (WE’RE LUCKY IF THEY SCRIBBLED SOMETHING ON A NAPKIN THAT THEY LATER USED WHILE EATING BBQ RIBS)

Exploits that have existed since game launch (coming up on the one year mark) have yet to be fixed.
We had a livestream by a dev who didn’t know how you put swords up on a tower.

The one good thing we have is that Devon Carver apparently takes time to read these. How much he can do about any of this remains to be seen; but hopefully he reads our discontent and is busy behind the scenes working on this.

He has ~8-10 months approx. before ESO comes out. He better be praying that they screw up their WvW-lookalike as much as they seem to be hosing PvE.

I think before they add anything into WvW, they need to address the skill lag issue, first and foremost. I could care less if we got new or larger maps if whenever a battle starts the only thing it becomes is a spam 1 fest.

They now have EQN and ESO to worry about. Twelve months from now their player-base is going to be 1/2 if not 1/4th of what it is currently if they do nothing.

Three things that could majorly save WvW’s behind:

1) New Commander Tag options (will reduce zergs if properly done.)
2) New maps or a heavy overhaul of existing maps.
3) On-site GMs that can observe exploitative player behavior any time of day and act accordingly.

Instead we get a “mastery”. Next week its going to be Golem Mastery with +25% Bonus Damage as the 5th trait. (Sarcasm.)

WvW is player driven, but if your players are fed up (and we are) then they will leave and all that free player driven “content” will go with them (and it is).

Shame on you Anet. Or rather Shame on you NCSoft/Nexon/Anet.
