So, I guess I’ll be the bad guy here, and I’ll probably get trolled too, but I feel like this has to be said. To me, the thing that makes WvW interesting is the people, and I feel like WvW has always had what people want… karma trains, duels, guild vs guild, and blob vs blob. It didn’t need to get gimmicky it just needed better match making. Adding gimmicks just turns people like me off to the game. You guys had a game mode that was perfect for esports. In fact, some guild vs guild videos have thousands of views. There’s even a whole other community with sites that’s built around WvW. Instead, you focused on Spvp which barely gets any viewers and raids/living story. Literally, all you guys had to do is fix your lag issues and balance match making, but instead you’re bringing back maps like desert bl (which completely throws off balance if nothing else because all the bls were the same for a reason) and adding the most gimmicky kitten imaginable. There’s already a place for gimmicks and that’s eotm. People like myself who want a simpler more streamlined WvW are now reduced to two maps and EBG. With queues during NA prime, that really screws us. Why not just bring people back by fixing the core problems with WvW? The same problems that you guys have had since release? Balancing and lag.
I guess I just don’t get it. Banners were pretty fail. The new bls were pretty fail. eotm turned into a karma train… every time you’ve pretty much reverted to the original wvw without fixing the core issues, but I guess this is just the cycle you’re going to continue. Idk, it just feels like you’re really killing the last part of the game that I like and find interesting. Of course I’ll keep playing until something else with a WvW comes out, but it really sucks watching you guys kitten things up over and over.

Server lag isn’t a simple fix, it’s something that improves by having more resources and processing power available. As for gimmicks, I completely agree, WvW is already Siege Wars 2 so adding deployable cannons and repair hammers just worsens the problem. What I don’t understand is that things like living story and raids are intended to challenge the player’s skill and strategic mind, whereas WvW is just a mindless ktrain or sit on an AC and press 1 and rake in the bags. The only skill to be found in WvW is in “open-field” fights where landing damage on moving targets, anticipating your enemies’ movements, positioning yourself so you don’t die/give yourself an opportunity for a good bomb, knowing when to regroup, push, or retreat. All of these things are challenging yet it is the single most downplayed thing about WvW and it’s almost a joke how many people avoid fighting like the plague. Anet is basically just going full ‘no child left behind’ act on WvW and it’s pretty sad.

The same you can say about spvp where you standing around on points waiting for somebody to stop by, boring as kitten.
Each game mode is what you make out of it

Dont totally agree with this statement, its not the only skill to be found in WvW. There is great skill in being able to take a tower that is defended with siege. Think about the purpose of WvW… the overall picture… its to capture, hold, defend and attack objectives. The skill comes in not only with your open field fights, which in most cases is nothing more than stroking of your kittens, but also in being able to defend objectives and attack objectives. Fighting zergs comes part and parcel of this.
Now back to Cid and his not liking of the DBL… the DBLs provide a different way of thinking, with different ways to attack objectives. Whole sections of the map were removed so you could have your “open field fights”. More sections were removed to help those who havoc move around the map faster.
The skill lag however is really quite unacceptable, but then again gives a good reason to take the war to a different map… doesnt it? If I was paying someone for a server that ran like an kitten with no legs I sure would be getting quite mad and possibly finding a new provider that could give what needed, and possibly new programmers while I was at it
I’ll agree with the wvw part. It’s probably one of the unique game modes and the only reason it’s survived this long is because it depends on fighting different players so there’s always some degree of variety. I think that’s the most missed part of anet’s ventures into wvw.

I agree with OP. This is getting stale, again. Just came back from about a year and a half break like 2 moths ago.
The new changes are interesting but stale. Over used. Abused. WvW Skill lag has been a problem since beta and they’ve yet to address it. GvG (WHICH LITERALLY COULD BE YOUR GOLDEN SPOON ESPORT) is still being ignored which has been asked for since beta. The only reason I continue to log is because I like the people I play with. Which has been true everytime I’ve started to burn out of GW2. Outside of PvE GW2 is largely the same that it’s been since original release… minus the stuff that most of the OG community didn’t want added in the first place (Linking, seasons, WvW Trait lines, hammers, weird kitten BLs) Just fix the core issues that you’ve had with WvW and you’re golden. Make GvG a thing like it was in GW2.
Yall just had a big meeting about how profits were down and you were going to start releasing xpacs faster and have more and more sales to make up for it… Why not fix the issues and add the kitten the community wants and bring back old players, who in turn will buy more gems, ect…ect…ect…
You can do dis anet. I still have like half an ounce of faith.

Unfortunately, I doubt Anet will make GvG their main source of Esport. It’s too much work. The best they could do is make a GvG Arena (OS) and let the players set up their own thing among themselves (remember gw2gvg.com?)
Even if Anet does fix lag, bring back WvW seasons, or whatever else, people will still complain about how stagnant WvW is and that it is not getting updates. Anet tried to add many updates such as
I guess I just don’t get it. Banners were pretty fail. The new bls were pretty fail. eotm turned into a karma train…
they just end up failing because we don’t want change.
Lag and population balance have plagued every MMO with a mode like this mainly because every MMO built typically bolts this onto their PvE game. The first game that builds around solving population balance, class balance, low lag AND has modern combat will dominate the RvR scene for a very long time.
Camelot Unchained.
What a disappointment. If I wanted to play a game from a decade ago, I would play DAoC which is still around. You better like static skill rotations because action combat is not in CU.
(edited by Straegen.2938)
Someone will eventually catch on that there is a huge player base just waiting to throw money at a company. CF seemed to get the idea but from testing they have completely failed in the combat department. CU, I haven’t had a chance to test more then the QUBE (building phase) so if they get the combat right they’ll be laughing all the way to the bank.
GW2 had this market all to themselves and could have capitalized, I don’t know wtf happened to be honest, GW1 was all about PvP and did very well. Who derailed the train and decided that they should do a 180 and focus on PvE? The fact that Anet still hasn’t realized the gold mine they were sitting on is mind blowing. When you release a game with 24 NA servers and they are packed everyday with people in 1 game mode, it’s a pretty obvious indication that it’s a gold mine. It didn’t really start dropping off until Anet started kitten ing out.
Camelot Unchained.
You’re welcome.
Release date: sometime in 2020 (if we’re lucky).
Ditto.
The lag bites. The desert map is fun. Wait for Camelot Unchained if you only want open field fights with skill bar rotations decided by who popped their opener first. There probably wont be many gimmicks there, just cooldowns, lots and lots of cooldowns.
They need to decrease the aoe and ticks, less server calculations, game is to aoe spammy while cant hold it.
more single target, longer CD AOE’s but a bit stronger(something added to skill), more clever fights intead of aoeing each other almost mindlessy…
Server lag isn’t a simple fix, it’s something that improves by having more resources and processing power available. .
When something is badly designed and with bad code, then just adding more cpu power won’t help… All the game engine should probably be rewriten to fix that, and they will never do that..
I see a lot of sexy people in this thread
@OP: Surely you remember that GvG “violated” their game mode? Guilds fighting guilds in Guild Wars was a violation, go figure.
I only WvW now to raid with guildies or roam with guildies, they are way too sexy not to stalk.
GvG is pretty dead anyway. There’s maybe like 5 guilds that still scrim. I never understood how Anet has taken something with such potential in WvW/ GvG, with possibly the best combat system that GW2 has and totally flushed it down the toilet. WvW is what sold me on playing this game as I’m sure it did for many others. I dont know if it’s lack of connection with the playerbase or just pure ego causing them to ignore and do whatever they want. At this point it seems as if they are purposely trying to kill off WvW so they don’t have to deal with it anymore. Let’s bring back the super popular Desert BLs the same week Legion comes out! Great idea!! The matchup balancing has been whack since forever, megaservering pve has made guild recruiting a pain, eliminating a lot of smaller guilds. and worst of all; the skill balancing isnt separated between pve, pvp and wvw so you get horrible metas like pirateship or like the one we have right now with infinite boons and sustain. oh and lets add more siege with canons and repair hammers instead of fixing bigger issues!!
(edited by MadBomber.3719)
Wvw skill lags are one of my biggest issues.
But I understand that that is something really hard to fix.
Ehhh. Gw2 could still rebound hard.
GvG can EASILY be brought back. Make it a focus with game announcements about who won and what bonus they won their server like it was in GW1. Give them special guild hall decorations.
Fix lag issues in gw2 and kill the gimmicks.
Anet has been doing a better job, but they can do better.
There’s hundreds of players who have fallen off just waiting to come back and say shut up and take my money.
If you think an Anet employee that has the power to make real meaningful changes to WvW are reading these types of threads(if any)that are made here, you’re probably Albert Einstein’s definition of insane.
By the time they fix the server lag/skill lag and all the other problems to WvW, Camelot Unchained, Crowfall and realistic VR will be out. Jeez, probably hover cars and the next George RR Martin book will be available before then.
Like I tell everyone else, if you even want these threads read by Devs, you need to make them on Reddit, get it trending ect, then maybe. But I still doubt it.
There’s hundreds of players who have fallen off just waiting to come back and say shut up and take my money.
I really wish they would understand this… I’ve dumped a lot of money in other games… not necessarily proud of it, but there are tons of people out there with disposable income that they can bring back if they just fix some of the issues that have already been outlined here and thus.. raise profits.

yeah, unfortunately they think living story 3, desert borderlands and siege hammers are the answer.
I guess it’s best if anet keeps out of the GvG scene – worked 3 years without them and would still work if the devs invested some time into class balance.
No offense, but they break everything they touch.

That may be true but they need to provide the tools for the players to make it happen.

Yes, like I said: class balance and maybe some group/zerg balance.
Like I also said: There was a gvg scene until HoT – they didn’t need the devs to make it happen. And actually gvg is the only reason why some people might indeed come back.
ETA: If this going to happen (which I doubt) they should have some devs though who know some gvg guilds or are even in one. Because that is the heart of wvw.
ETA²: The rest will solve itself as gvg guilds usually have some youtube presence or streams and even the biggest potatos (me and my buddies) know the most famous of them. If all of it is healthy then you might think about making some event out of it for marketing purposes – but I’d be very careful about that.
