So, they have to figure out a way to sell cosmetic items to a group of players that largely are interested in winning in WvW (where most of their cosmetic stuff will be turned off by everyone to reduce lag).

Yeah, that’s a real riddle. I wish them luck.

I’ve actually had more issues with the bad models than the high res ones. I keep my stuff turned up, but I do wish they’d give me the option to see the enemy’s dye jobs

Until ArenaNet figures out a way to make money from WvW it will not change in any significant manner. WvW will always remain on the “back burner” and it will be a secondary (or tertiary) priority for ArenaNet.

Why does Anet not develop three new maps and sell these for 10 Euro. Its not unreasonably to ask money for new content, and I would buy these in an instant. The price / gametime (and/or fun factor) ratio would still be very good for many people.

They also said that WvW was going to be that “good wildly unbalanced world PvP” everyone wants.

Get over it and enjoy that thief who just one-shot you with a backstab!

If you got 1 shot by a thief, you’re doing it wrong.

Here is the two areas of skill in WvW.

- Being a great leader.
- Being a great follower.

You aren’t doing much if you aren’t either of those two.

There are a number of players who understand the nuances of wvw and don’t need to follow a blue icon around all of the time (if that’s what you mean by “be a great follower”) or be told what to do who still manage to make vital contributions in wvw. It’s the camp flippers and yak slappers/escorts that deny the enemy the supplies they need while insuring their server gets that which it needs. It’s the lone scouts that often undermine the intentions of 20 to 40 man zergs. It’s the siege builders and watchmen that thwart tower and keep attacks daily.

Good leaders and good followers are vital ingredients, but so too are those who provide intel, supply control, defensive preparation, and first response. Rough estimate, I would say every server needs 10-30% of its players doing things other than zerging most of the time, but that those players need to know when it’s time for most of them to come together for defensive or offensive efforts with the zerg.

But it’s not as good as it could be. It is still a pve game first with 3 real combat tacked on. It’s also zergy by design and skill lag is game stopping.

I enjoy this game and I’m not following Teso (also pve first game). I also will say that I beleave that if a game comes around that fills the three realm pvp fantasy setting in a better way you will see people leave. Anet has time to make the wvw experiance better the question is do they want to?

I have to disagree about ArenaNet being pve centered. When a game is, it shows plainly. My evidence is that the heavy imbalances are in pve. Never, literally never have I before played a game with so many classes equally able to defeat each other. There is simply no rock paper scissors in wvw, unheard of in large scale PvP. Every game claims to do this intentionally, but I’ve always felt it was a band-aid solution to the problem of pve centric classes not balancing. I.E. treating symptoms of the problem.
Yes, vanilla GW2 isn’t perfect, adding “vanilla” really puts it in perspective doesn’t it? This isn’t a final work We’re playing here. It is a rock steady foundation upon which Anet can place anything we pay them to, if we pay them. The huge problems we’ve encountered before, balance, zone stability, gold farming, all nonexistent here. Culling? Eliminated in 6 months. Skill lag? In the works. It’s hard in general to say they aren’t trying.
Now, with that said. Yes, I’ll leave when something better comes along. I’ve thrown CU some cash in hopes. But I firmly believe leaving for the next thing, because it’s the next thing is a fools errand. And one that punishes companies with long-term aspirations. And worse yet, rewards companies for doing the sell and run, ala EA.

I agree with you on most things you said, the game it self is a solid platform and the class balance is not nearly as wildly unbalanced as most games in the past. My problem is not with the game play or classes as much as it is with the idea of non competitiveness in a pvp environment. The everyone gets a cookie set up of wxp, Karma, xp etc is great in pve but not so in wvw. So for me it’s not mechanics its a conflict of ideals.

By the way, I dot remeber if you played DaoC or not but I was Shump and Samhayn from Ravens of the Veil. Tell Olaf I said hi.

It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!

I hate to break it to you guys, but this whole game is casual. If you honestly think anything about this game could be considered hardcore you clearly haven’t played many other games (don’t even need to be mmo’s).

Currently there exists only one “hardcore” mmo anyway, and that’s Eve online*.

Soo, Gw2 not being hardcore makes it just like the 99.9% of mmos out there. Of course, I’m a little disapointed considering how incridibely similiar this game is to every other mmo out there. After all, a year back from now everyone excepted it to bring something new to the mmo genre and yet it turned out to be “just another casual mmo”. Haha.

*I wouldn’t always want to praise Eve, but it can’t be helped. After experiencing the level of player-player interaction in Eve, it’s difficult to even call other mmos as mmos.
