I’m probably not the only one who has noticed this trend in angry whispers from players (in WvW)…

Those playing thieves have always been the worst culprits (in my experiences, at least) for sending incredibly rude, aggressive whispers or party invites if you kill them in WvW (usually in a 1v1 or similar scenario). However more recently I have also been receiving angry comments from d/d cele eles.

My guess behind this is that the person who chose to play that profession/build did so because they were expecting to be able to rek face when fighting other players in duels or small group fights. So of course when you beat them they become incredibly frustrated at the fact that they were the ones who died, when clearly their character is #ultimateh4x0rOwnage and you must have cheated or been a noob in some way.

Anyway, I assume this is the same case with the rise of the d/d cele ele too – people take this build expecting to be able to beat anyone, therefore getting mad kitten when they don’t. This is something I really, really dislike about the community. It unveils quite a toxic vein of people who play the game.

It’s something I wanted to get off my chest. As this is a forum for GW2 WvW ‘Discussion’ I thought I’d come here to discuss associated thoughts. If it incurs no discussion or it’s deemed a waste of forum space then I’m sure a moderator will remove it.

I thought you can’t see player’s names in WvW? How can they whisper you?

Would just to point out that throwing “l2p” in their face isn’t going to help the matter any either. If they are already being kittens, you don’t need to add fuel to the fire. Just turn off wsper or stick them on ignore.

No, you can’t change human nature. That’s so very true. But you don’t need to be a kitten in return either.

The biggest problem is that they add you to their block list then whisper you meaning you cannot even reply to them..

Was on my ranger and a thief attacked me, so I fought back and killed him, he then sends me a whisper calling me a noob amongst other things…. defo a l2p issue, not my fault the thief thought I was easy bait, but didn’t realise I was running condi ranger at that time and bled him dry…

Thieves though are defo by far the worst at this, as they think they can stealth upto you, kill you and stomp you safely using shadow refuge, however as soon as you get them out of stealth or fill them full of condis, most get confused and simply die…

Put them on block, go to that list and right click name and you have an option to whisper.

Just block them and move on. Not everything needs or deserves you attention and it most certainly doesn’t require any kind of a response.

Yeah I do block them, but only they have whispered me first and thrown abuse…

Plus its always funny to see what people say…

Then you report them for the message they have sent you, when its is abusive…

Right-click and whisper or so. I’ve never felt the need to whisper an “enemy” even if I’ve been annoyed. I rather log out then.

But I’ve actually had some funny chats with people who whispered me. It’s pretty easy to wind them up a little without being offending Best to just not bother.

I used to ignore them now I mess with people now when they shoot me a whisper. I make up a random character and send them long messages of kindness until they block me or stop responding. It is freaking hilarious some of the responses I get.

I particularly like talking about my pet turtle cuddles!

Yeah… the block showing the name is annoying, I’ve received a number of grumpy abusive messages. Especially when solo defending a tower against a really, really erm… inexperienced… yeah… guild >.>

I wish they’d either show all names in WvW or fix that little trick so it doesn’t work.

When they whisper you about you being the noob just say, I’m not the one whose dead now am I? And if they just start raging after you win just say “GF” and it’ll make the abusive comments hilarious. Just screw around with the person raging at you, eventually they’ll give up and ignore you.

This is true for pretty much every competitive online game in existence.

I never even thought about this, actually. I’ve had my whispers turned off due to gold spammers practically since I started the game. Wonder if I’ve ever gotten anyone raging at me for some of the things I pull…

One of the first things i do when joining a pvp based game:

Disable emotes.

Phew saves a lot of unessecary bullkitten filling my chat channel.

If only they disabled to whisper someone you have blocked it would be nice. Had some tools in the past raging at me in whisper while all i get to see was “this person has blocked you” when i tried to reply to them

The problem is not the players, they are just using the game mechanics, Anet gave that mentality to the players with their game balance.

Keep some stacks of salt on you and when they message, send em some stacks of salt, it will usually send em raging even harder….

What ever you do though, do not tea bag someone with a female toon, someone will make you their waifu

I had a similar encounter with a warri yesterday…
One of those perma-escape builds, GS + sword/shield.
Everytime I got him low, he would just leap off to reset, hop around and engage again (with me being reseted as well ofc). After his 2nd disengage, I just switched from pistol /shield to rifle, baited him into using his leaps again, and immobilized him right in the middle of GS #5, threw a couple more nades and stomped him.

He then whispered me, that I’m a f’ing nub, and should try a 1v1 with him (which we just had), but I didn’t payed attention to my back, when the rest of his guildies jumped me right after he send this message, so I got rushed and killed in around 3sec^^

He then whispered me again (after I already respawned) with " You got rekt, nub"…

Anyways, the fix is quite simple:
Deactivate the block-function for enemy players in wvw, a-net.
If they can’t block you, they don’t get you on their block-lists, and therefore can’t whisper you, which means that all enemy-players are blocked automatically, unless they know your account-name in the first place, but you still can continue to report cheaters, a.s.o.

Yes, I know, there are civil encounters as well.
I actually met a very friendly thief recently.
Between klovan and golanta we kinda killed ourselves (both in downstate), and he manged it to finish me faster than I could finish him. I then used the block-function to whisper him with “lol, up for a rematch?” on which he answered “yes, ofc”. We met next to the krait in the swamp and had a couple of nice duels, so it definitively would be sad to loose this option, for the sake of these kinds of interactions…

Still, my suggestion stays, I rather see it gone and loose the option to whisper people from other servers, than to deal with these little rage-spamers anymore.

I prefer to leave emotes active because some people still use them to ‘hide’ in keeps.

Being a ranger in wvw, i’ve only ever had one person whisper me not so much a rage/angry comment but it did read like it had the intent to try and hurt me xd.

all i replyed back with was , Sorry i killed you , too bad. no more replies and i ./waved went on my way.

later same guy trying to hunt me down , killed him again no reply , im still capping bloodlust , he came back saw me never bothered me again , though it does take a few beatings to make them get the point.

just don’t give into their anger and feed it, will always lead to more replies.

How strange to see this post. D/D celestial Eles and Thieves are the absolute worst culprits for angry whispers for me.

I’d happily see the whisper functionality disabled for enemy players. I care not for your feelings.

What computer specs and video software did you use? You got really smooth framerates in that video!

It’s a two-way street in a lot of regards.

Usually the whispers come from people who have just been killed by a really cheesy spec like P/D perplex thief and similar builds, while many other of the rages come from people playing these cheesy specs who just suck and refuse to believe they got bested.

Frankly, I’ve noticed that the number of angry whispers often declines the less cheesy of a spec you use and how well you play it. I get TONS of whispers when I play my thief, and almost all of them are relatively positive usually regarding how I achieved my damage numbers/build advice/play advice to make my build work.

Ultimately, being the better person diffuses a lot of rage, and some of the folks who get ragey can actually be nice people. We’ve all had our off days where we die a lot and scream “BS!” at the monitor. Sometimes you catch people at the wrong moment. If they don’t cool down, well, then they’re just jerks, and you can simply block and report.

The problem is not the players, they are just using the game mechanics, Anet gave that mentality to the players with their game balance.

Oh wow. You can blame Anet for a lot of things but “giving people their mentality” is a bit strong. You are aware that Anet is not people’s parents/peers/genetical ancestors right?

I dont roam often but if i do i do it with my ranger. Thats a real anger maker. 1Whisper/10 minutes
You kitteng 1500 range kaknub! Learn to play! You killed me only because your RF tracked me in the shadow refuge! Etc

Those players annoy me becuase now I have to block people to say GF or talk to them or add them to party to talk… kittening poorsports… ruin good stuff way to often.

I take this kind of thing as a compliment.
