Annoying WvW
I don’t get it. You’re suggesting that WvW should be strictly for lvl 80 players. In that case, get to lvl 80 and stop complaining..
You want a more ‘fair’ pvp? Go to Heart of the Mists.
" I found myself alone trying to get from one side of the map to the other when suddenly a lvl 80 enemy character came rushing at me."
…what’s your server? i did that to like 10 different lowbies alone today…at least it isn’t a party of thieves gank.
" to move anywhere alone without being overpowered by just one other person. Im not new to Guild Wars, I played the first one and have owned the second one since before it came out, and I really had high hopes for WvW but I will no longer play it if something isn’t changed. It makes it very unfair for anyone lower than lvl 80 to enjoy what seemed like an awesome style of PvP."
you should try zerging until your 30 or so. in WvWvW i wouldn’t bother roaming until you’re atleast lvl 30-40 (this is coming from a solo roamer from day 1). there is power in numbers. if a single person is killing you and is patrolling an area stay away if he/she killed you multiple times. simple as that. the problem is that you’re level 17, you don’t have full access to your utilities, and gear difference is huge (while stats really aren’t).
“here’s really no opportunity for 1v1 unless you get lucky and are fighting someone who’s also traveling alone and is in the same lvl region as you are, but I feel the chances of that are slim”
what server are you on? i find plenty of small groups trying to raid the back. very few people 1v1, and if you do it’s pretty fun.
" Even being defensive (dodging) helps little against anyone higher lvl then you are. Taking away the gear based PvP system would, in all, make WvW much more enjoyable, or even setting lvl brackets would be great. I know that this is a “World vs World” and you should be able to show off your strengths and ability’s to your opponent, but being a low lvl in WvW gives you no chance against that person. They should make WvW either strictly for lvl 80 players, or add some sort of way where a lvl 17 character could have a chance."
the entire game’s gear treadmill is very very very very short. sneezing makes you earn karma and exp. and high end gear sells for 1-6g for things that don’t necessarily look nice but function.
I’ve managed to come into EB with my level 5 mesmer and take down 2 people at once. And on occasion, I’ve also managed to get my kitten handed to me on a silver platter while on my lvl 80 Warrior in 1v1. So quite frankly, it all comes down to your skill level of playing your character and knowing how to get out of a sticky situation. I really don’t see anything needing to be changed, nor do I find it unfair or ridiculous. Honestly it sounds like WvW caught you on the wrong day – why don’t you give it another chance?
WvW is WORLD versus WORLD … not one vs one.
Welcome to WvW. Kudos on solo roaming, but you need to be properly geared, properly experienced, and properly leveled to solo. Until then roll as a zerglet. But when you get to cap level and have your rare/exotics break away from the horde and fight the real fight.
Anyone can get handed a humble sandwich…even a lvl 80 in exotic gear. Had one of those bunker type eles run me through the ringer the other day….if it wasnt for another warrior that stepped in…he woulda had me. Sure, he was a better gamer….but Im sure even after his death….he was probably laughin at the trouble he was givin us.
Point is….dont let your low level ruin it. Find two or three guys goin somewhere….anywhere…and tag along. maybe you will take some supply camps…maybe you will hook up with a zerg.
I have just as much fun….(well actually, i dont….really love my warrior) on my lowbies as my 80. Fun as in…runnin around and seeing whats what….my main, im used to and play the most. but dont let a dozen deaths kill yer mood. Get in there and mix it up…..you never know whats around the corner.

WvW end-game is all about numbers. Solo roaming is only good for: WP trolling, yak ganking, scouting, and getting points from sentry capping. If you’re roaming to fight players… you’re doing it wrong.
Join a WvW guild or community teamspeak and hop in the zerg.
Sadly most classes are useless until they’re geared at 80. All they do is rally enemies -.- The only exceptions are classes with certain utilities that are crucial WvW abilities… Portal, Time Warp, Feedback, Swirly Whirly, Wall of Reflection, Epidemic, Line of Warding + Ring of Warding, Meteor Shower, Mortar, Empower, Dagger Storm, Battle Standard, etc…
An average WvW player can solo cap supply camps with one invader nearby. A single player can turn the perimeter of a map a single color.
Not to even mention what a group of two to five can do.
I’m level 80 and people kill me.
I haven’t stopped playing.
if you want balanced pvp go to spvp
with that said WvW is still easy since getting to 80 and gearing up in exotics is still not much of a grind compared to most other games
not like low lvls are useless either….
just follow the zerg
if your not 80 and is running alone, your just doing it wrong
I don’t know your class or any information about your gear but I think Level scaling system is pretty fair if you are wearing the best quality item’s of your level. I attained more than 100% crit chance because of scaling system when I was around level 60 which I can not get right now I am level 80 full exotics. You are probably not wearing any toughness or vitality items which is normal when you are leveling a character but in WvW those stats specially toughness is really crucial. Yes you are missing traits and elite skill which is bad for you but it’s to give you some motivation to level up. You are only level 17 and tried WvW for a day I believe nobody here would take your opinion seriously I am not even talking about Anet. Leveling system does not scale the hardness of leveling up which means leveling up from level 1 to level 2 pretty much in same difficulty as leveling from 79 to 80 so I don’t think you will have any difficulties leveling up. I leveled up 10to15 levels a day just playing WvW and I am sure you can at least make 5 a day easily. So please take the advice of people who are tring to help you here and stop raging at Anet who made an exceptional game.

I find going low level in WvW for if you want a very particular kind of challenge. That is the challenge of surviving in a world were you’re far from the strongest player around. Reminds me of RFO when I first got my MAU and could farm for insane profit, but only in areas that a couple max level Cora could some in a oneshot me while troll rolling every lowbie in the general area. May not be for everyone, but I find it thrilling. In any case, it’s not like you have 0% chance of doing anything as a lowbie in WvW.

WvW is about points, remember ppl,the server with the biggest kills don’t neccesarly win
Today I had been playing WvW in GW2 to try and take a break from PVE. To my displeasure, I found myself alone trying to get from one side of the map to the other when suddenly a lvl 80 enemy character came rushing at me. My character is lvl 17 and was completely destroyed by this enemy. The Imbalance in WvW is so ridiculous you can’t try to move anywhere alone without being overpowered by just one other person. Im not new to Guild Wars, I played the first one and have owned the second one since before it came out, and I really had high hopes for WvW but I will no longer play it if something isn’t changed. It makes it very unfair for anyone lower than lvl 80 to enjoy what seemed like an awesome style of PvP. Its no fun unless your in a giant mob with a bunch of other lvl 80’s, and still then, you feel like your doing very minimal towards helping capture bases when you know everyone else around you is blowing your DPS out of the water. There’s really no opportunity for 1v1 unless you get lucky and are fighting someone who’s also traveling alone and is in the same lvl region as you are, but I feel the chances of that are slim. Even being defensive (dodging) helps little against anyone higher lvl then you are. You really don’t understand anything. WvW was never meant to be a fair battle between individuals, and if you’ve been playing this game since before release you should know that if you were paying attention. WvW was intended to simulate a more real life large area conflict situation where not everyone needs to be a gladiator. In real life you’d have cooks, repair specialists, medics, people who transport supplies, workers who build and repair, etc. If you aren’t geared or spec’d to survive 1v1 battles that’s exactly what you should do in WvW … run supplies (hugely important), or scout enemy positions, or man battlements, or rez other players at the fringe of a battle. How is that so difficult to figure out?
If you want to be competitive as a level 17 going head to head against a level 80 you belong in sPvP, not WvW.

Seeing as you were solo roaming you instantly put a big huge target on your back. You should expect dying whenever you are running around alone. After all you ARE playing against with two other servers.

I know how you feel, but I don’t think the system needs to change. Just stay with the pack until you are a higher level. People who are level 80 aren’t impossible to kill, but they have earned their advantage over you.
Thief | Mesmer | Elementalist
The reason the gear you buy in WvW has power, vitality, toughness on it, is because your character needs it.
I regurarly do WvW with low level characters, ofc i don’t look for 1v1 or small group fights, but if you go there with a group, especially guild groups you can still do your part (get in sieges, support your team, grab supplies, etc).
One thing that could partially solve this problem is that traits in wvw should be fully unlocked from level 10, because that’s the real problem.
Hypothetically a level 40 in full rares got enough stats to be decent, even in small fights, but without traits, he has no synergies in his build and misses some of the key traits for the profession to work.
I leveled a Thief to 9 solo ganking in borderlands last night. lol

I’m running around at level 20 right now and having a ball. I have one other character that’s been 80 for a while which I’ve done WvW with so I’m relatively familiar with it, but if you give it a little time, even at 17 you should be able to help your side.

This discussion is completely useless. ANet has openly admitted to WvW never being balanced because it’s simply not possible to make that work.
I won’t point you towards s/t PvP because trust me, after doing that for a week you will be bored out of your freaking mind.
1st of all LOL at the one who posted this, 2nd read the link posted by Porky.5021, and 3rd LOL!!!!!! sorry after reading the 1st post I woke up some neighbors laughing…. I mean really man? solo running on a WvW map on a lvl 17 is like being a fish out of water… but what made me lol was you complaining about how imbalanced lvl 80 vs lvl 17 is on WvW
I can understand OP points and feel your pain. When I bought GW2, I had similar expectation as OP. I was misled by ANet manifesto was gears/level doesn’t matter, it’s all up to your skills, horizontal progression, blah..blah… blah (gears/levels doesn’t matter only occurs in sPvP/tPvP and not in any other areas.) Apparently, it is not like that. Gears/levels different does matter and then skills coming in later.

One thing that could partially solve this problem is that traits in wvw should be fully unlocked from level 10, because that’s the real problem.
Come on… do you want a welfare check with your traits too? If you basically unlock everything for a class at level 10, whats the point to even care about leveling it? Gear is whatever, but traits and utility skills are what really defines a build and allows you to play the class how you enjoy it the most. And that is something that you should have to EARN.
Gotta agree with the other, no offence but your level 17 wearing gear that is basically there so your not naked. You only have 2 utility skills, Its really not that bad once you get at the very least your Elite skill and some greens to wear. I’m not trying to insult you are anything of that sort but common think about it, your level 17 going up against a lvl 80 whom probably has at least full rares if not exotics.
I leveled a character from level 5-80 in WvW solely and while I did get my kitten handed to me a few times along the way, I eventually got the hang of the class and was killing 80 when I was sub 80. Even at 80 there are some classes that if they catch you solo (dependant on your class/skill) will still destroy you. No the game is not perfectly balance and some classes do need tweeking but your level 17, even with boosted stats your not even 1/4 of that players level.
I’m sure everyone would be just fine with level 17’s running around killing all the 80’s in full exotics because that wouldn’t complete defeat the purpose of getting to 80 and getting gear. While were at it lets let level 1’s complete all the PvE content faster and more effectively then the level 80’s.
Maybe we could all just start at 80 and level down instead, I don’t know seems kinda balanced to me, I mean who wouldn’t want to lose all their exotics and levels so they could earn level 1 and gear with no stats. Next week in Bizzaro world, mobs that form groups to defeat players … stay tuned.
