Anvil Rock isn’t what it use to be.

Our WvW is sporadic, about every time I go into EB we are outnumbered, and our PvE seems to be only OK, with temples, especially Balthazar, rarely done anymore. I’ve guested on and watched other servers where temples are done a lot more and there is stronger WvW presence. A few other servers even have server webpages ran by the community, something I don’t think Anvil Rock has (at least haven’t seen one). Even the leader boards seem to give evidence with there being far less people with 5000+ achievement points compared to some others. What troubles me the most, however, is the increased chatter in LA of people transferring. Had a guildie transfer because of the lack action and another who is always guesting. Heard others in LA saying they were saving up to transfer and I even heard that ALS, once one of our largest WvW guilds, had transferred. While there are still some niche groups/guilds out there that are strong, as a whole we just aren’t much anymore and that’s sad.

My guild and the friends I’ve made are about the only thing holding me back from transferring myself.

For those from Anvil Rock, and others, what are your thoughts? Are we a dying server or do I have it all wrong? Are there other servers out there who have similar feelings?

One of your largest guilds transfered and many others screamed “sinking ship” (kind of like you are doing by posting this) and then they left also. WvW wise, your server is dying. Your server has always had terrible achievement point rankings because its the unofficial US sPVP server, so many people in AR just dont care about brainless dungeon content.

Anvil Rock is mainly sPvP.

As others said, that is the unofficial SPvP server.

Yea that’s what I’m hearing. Don’t do much sPvP.

Time to move servers, Jade Quarry always has people running around, both PvE and WvW.

WvW is not the center of the universe!

Sadly, it does seem to be, and the worst problem is that guesting on big servers for PvE is incredibly effective and for large group events, the easiest way to get stuff, as well as misc stuff such as temple vendors.

On the other hand, it’s probably a good thing for people to leave if they don’t want to be there. No point in keeping people that are incompatible with your server, and fairweathers are useless anyways.

But the nature of the server stacking has seen problems. They really need to slash or even remove gem transfer fees to low rank/pop servers to help repopulate them. Bigger bonuses for outmanned, etc…

Of course, I’m of the opinion that people say something is dying, too soon, and bolt too fast, causing a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Things will settle. StormbluffIsle dropped down the tiers when people left in droves and it looked horrific for the longest time with like 2 people in EB or whatnot and outmanned continuously on. It’s still very alive today though and at least pve is well populated as well as PvE extension (aka EB)

Anyhow, I’m sure AR will find its place. You guys had some really good small groups. I’ve never seen individuals and small groups from other servers run circles around me and proceed to slam my face in the ground so badly before, lol.

I just came back for a couple days after a few month hiatus and I have to admit that Anvil Rock seems pretty much dead or almost there. In Lions Arch there is no chatter, we have no presence at all in WvW and unless I’m mistaken are last place of all the servers there, see very few people out in the world, dungeons are abandoned, and very few players to be seen in any major city.

I mean I hate to say it but Anvil Rock while once a great server seems to have all the vitality of an asthmatic 90 year old

across the all servers, balth temple doesn’t get done much. The last escort event induces too much rage. Only a few guilds and people desperate for obby shards have the determination to get it done.

Gonna stay in Anvil through thick and thin , although things could change .

NSP does it daily (along with every temple) at daily reset.

True but given that we’ve been consistently slipping down the WvW ladder and in our current bracket are regularly getting spanked due to our server having next to no WvW coverage I’d say we’re on the decline and headed for an even lower ranking.

Wish I had something more positive to say =/

Not sure about the impending “death” of AR … I’m on most nights for a few hours and every other weekend I tend to marathon for hours on end … and whichever zone I happen to be in, there’s always others players running around. Sure, some areas are more populated than others, but the comment about LA being silent confuses me — everytime I’m in LA, there’s a ton of chatter in map. Never guested to another server, so not sure how heavily populated others may be in comparison, but I don’t think AR is headed for the grave based off what I see every night.

Come on over to Gate of Madness! We’ve got lots of PvE people and have been steadily climbing in the WvW rankings for months now:)

Hello Anvil Rock! I know your pain…

If you’ve been playing since launch you should remember that Stormbluff Isle was designed from the ground up to be an organized server full of alliances and such.

We were the top tier in WvW for about 4 months when we lost our Oceanic timezone guild War Machine, the same guild that helped Kaineng rise before they left and quit all together.

After they left SBI a lot of other guilds followed, one person jumps ships the rats will follow!

I know AR has some amazing pvp players.

Our server, Desolation, had rough times in Spring 2013, when we lost around 10 major hard core WvWvW guilds. Luckily we have a huge pve population + some of the world’s best spvp/tpvp players to tap from. It took us a lot of effort to rebuild our WvWvW society. We are still lacking players and dedicated WvWvW guilds, especially on the off peak hours, but on the positive side, there is rarely any queue.

Our rating has been going up for many weeks are we are gonna win this week’s match up and rise up to EU rank 5. So it is possible to make a come back!

I can really feel your pain. I wish you the best of luck in rising up from the ashes.

Yea you never know what may happen if a server wanted to rise through the ranks to pick up people as has been done so many times before your server would prolly be the best choice as it already has a strong pvp community. You could try talking up a merger of the good guilds from jq and sor so they could cut the fat and possibly choose guilds they like on there way up but who knows. I am sure some one will rise to the challenge black gate has presented eventually.

I think AR is in a pretty good position right now. In WvW, you’re not too far off from ET in points and a (hopefully impending) Ferguson’s Crossing vs. Eredon Terrace vs. Anvil Rock matchup. I think you guys have some exciting times ahead. ::thumbsup::

As far as PvE content is concerned, have you tried organizing something yourself? Perhaps, you could post something in your shiny new forum or advertise it in LA? We used to designate Thursday evenings as our “temple clearing” night in ET. Once the word started getting out, attendance got pretty nice.

At the very MINIMUM, I’d hang out on Anvil Rock for another 3-4 weeks and see what happens.

It seems to me you are new to the game not understanding your own servers focus having trouble finding groups with sites like gw2lfg.com or gw2lfg.net. Basing the life of your server on achiv point it seems that your group is pve focused and your server is not.

Now as far at your largest wvw guild leaving its takes a good server community to shine in wvw and if there are people not putting in time its not fun for anyone. I am sure you guys still have really good tpvp which has been your focus for a while and will still bring those players there.

First off, I give the AR guys hell, but that is only because they wanted to forum war with only 8 people in EB. Truth be told they are some tough SOBs that keep on trying no matter the odds.

One thing I can tell you from experience though, and I hope you take it to heart. SF has fallen, risen, and fallen again…Losing a few guild groups that are 100% WvW definitely does hurt. But what really hurts you is the mentality of your PUGs…When those guys figure out “Guild X has left the server”. The negative spin is incredible and it really hurts your morale.

More often than not you lose your fairweather base, because in their minds “Guild X is gone, I am not getting farmed we suck without them etc”. Even a 400-man guild likely only has 40-50 people online at a time. Out of those 40-50, even in a WvW heavy guild there is maybe 25-30 actually in WvW at those given times. So by losing those WvW guilds, the main thing you lose is some coverage, but the big hit really is the mindset of your fairweathers/PUGs (negatively) that gets impacted.

We had a well known guild disband on SF, great WvW reputation. Well around that time we also probably hit our “ceiling” on as high as we could legitimately climb on the WvW ladder due to a lack of Oceanic/EU coverage. As we started to struggle in the PPT, we started to get Map Chats like this:
“Why do we suck now?”
“Because _ guild quit the game or Because _ guild transferred.”

We would always laugh in the VoIP because those guys were still here, they just had reformed under another guild name, sure maybe they weren’t as active/organized but it is the mentality/mindstate of your server’s mass that dictates the participation you get in WvW.

TL/DR: While guilds leaving your server do impact you negatively in WvW, the thing that hurts the most is the perceived negative impact that they have; in the end it really isn’t as bad as it seems. But it does turn into a domino effect, which is likely the biggest cause in your fall.

Its done daily on our server, NSP. Grenth is the only one that is not done every day.

It was literally a zergilious Borlis pass offhand server.
Which as you should remember, ruined the most even matchup in NA at the time with an organised 2man.

Goodluck in your rebuilding, but you’re better off without ALS.

I am actually having a ton of fun in this lowest tier! There are constantly skirmishes and opportunities for small-mans. I haven’t been randomly zerg-rolled all week. We are even doing better at coordinating ourselves into small teams. The fights where we are are amazing. We just need to get a few more people to show up so that we have a more consistent showing. We will come back and be better in a few months!

Thats good, For some reason I see the random roll putting either HOD or NSP up against you guys. Hope to find some good open field fights without the zerg running to kill 5 guys when a tower is threatened.

Well Im sticking with AR because there are still a lot of great people left. Hopefully AR will rise again.

I finally see someone with my same problem.Thank you for pointing this out : D anyway i think we took a GIANT downfall in WvW after ALS left im in TDME (love it) prolly tthe only reason i havnt switched servers yet. I’m working on Bifrost the legendary staff and I REALLY needed to buy obbys for it I asked in LA map chat for DAYS if temp of Balthazar is up or if anyone will do it but no NEVER i finally just quested on JQ and bought my obbys I’m kinda sad about WvW actually VERY sad because I am a commander that loves to have a big zerg following him but i havnt had that experience in a while (I’m commander Grass Fay if you have seen me around)I really sincerly hope AR gets back how it was at launch well see ya later!

Even though I am playing in EU, it is really sad to see AR dropping to have the lowest rating in NA. But I am also happy to see that you have players who decided to stay. That’s the right attitude. Our server was in same situation. Still a lot of people stayed and kept on fighting despite being outnumbered against the enemy 90% of the time. Those types of players who can manage to lighten up the mood with great jokes and humor in TeamSpeak and give temporary map domination are the best. Never give up.

You should really try to tap into your large pvp population. Organize guided tours and raids for WvWvW beginners. But perhaps the spvp/tpvp population is too small? I don’t know the numbers. I have never been on any NA server.

Desolation, which is the EU’s unofficial spvp/tpvp server, managed to stop the death spiral. We lost over 1500 WvWvW players in Spring 2013, but we luckily have so huge pve population that we could train a lot of new WvWvW players from there. Now recently a big WvWvW guild transferred back to Desolation and I got a good hunch we will get some more guilds in near future as well. We are still far from being able to win any match up in EU. Our current rank is 5. But many of us actually don’t want to be in TOP3 as that would mean constant fights against Visunah (EU rank 1).

Maybe you can still have nice fights despite being the lowest rated server in NA?

But I can imagine being face rolled and outmanned almost all the time is not fun. Huge zergs clashing against each other bring an annoying lag, but man those fights can also be so epic.

Despite the lag I really enjoyed the fights yesterday at Piken BL. We had the outnumbered “buff” and still managed to take their Bay and both enemy servers had massive zergs there. 20 vs 50 vs 35 (or so, I cannot accurately count everybody). We had 3 portals chained and nice devious tactics.

I am slowly seeing more and more in WvW, although it could be simply b/c we are near the end of a living story cycle (our WvW are dedicated PvEers too).

I will say, being outmanned 95% of the time has given me a great opportunity to work on my solo-roaming skills completely without consequence. I was really upset that one time I had to pay a repair bill the other day.

AR will come back with a vengeance, just wait…

We are killing zerges and taking keeps even tho we are out numbered most of the time, we have the best pvp players on Gw2, heres some shots (AR is Red)

You’re like most of the servers down this way, WrayWray: kicked into the dirt and struggling to pull out of it. Hell, any of our current matchup’s gone through it, or currently is. You just have to find a balance, tbh. If you need to, hit up PvP/PvE for a bit to change up somewhat.
The problem is, that once one or two “big” WvW Guilds leave a server, kitten starts to snowball from there. Especially when you start losing matchups, that just compounds the issue.
I’ll say one thing though, a lot of your guys are persistent as all hell, and that keeps things plenty interesting. Do continue.
