Any chance for a non elite spec borderlands ?
What do you mean?
What they mean is if they could have a border map where it is only core build players (no HoT or PoF elite specialisation skills).
ANet wants you to buy the XPac(s) and thus access to the Elite specs. How likely does that make the request?
that’s a cool idea
Its like asking for a borderland with max level 40: wont happen.
Sure… when Build Templates come out… why not?
I don’t see why they should do it. It’s not like every elite is a straight upgrade to base specs. Just take Scrapper or the Mirage. They just add variety but they’re not strictly “better”
Core Warrior, Guardian, Ele and even necro are pretty good even when compared to Elite specs. Mesmer also for roaming. Normal Thief, ranger, rev and engi are just boring anyways.
Elite specs added speed (lower cast times), more counterplay and higher skillroof to the fights. I dont see why diminish the quality of the fights by making Longbow ranger godlike (pewpew and run away) against anything except mediguard again.

Some Core builds are far superior to HoT builds. Just have to learn to use them correctly.
Copy ebg, turn it into a winter map, and make it max level 79.
Attach it to eotm and it’s player pooling, so all tiers can fight each other whenever.

I still don’t understand how that would make WvW any more fun. You just prevent players changing maps quickly because they use one build in one map and if they want to hop to “non-elite” map they have to waste time equipping new weapons, swapping out gear and changing traits.
I think the suggestion could actually work in PvP where you have time to prepare. You could have non-elite matchups where only core classes are allowed. But in WvW where most of the battles are still about numbers, it would just make the game more confusing without any real benefits.
You could come up with number of similar suggestions: how about BL map without ranged damage? BL map without any siege? Map where you can not equip any equipment? Map where everyone is permanently poisoned? But… would any of these improve the WvW?
Interesting. Could be a third map, next to ABL and DBL, have a “Time-lost Borderlands”:
- Only base traitlines.
- No tricks.
- No shield generators.
- No upgrades to structures.
- No tricks.
Poor thieves.

The players that want “vanilla” WvW believe that the game was better back then, which it was. As for the need to switch maps, if they believe the game is better with core specs and there’s like numbers on the other sides that also believe the same, there would not be a need to switch maps.
You do understand that game has already changed most of the core skills, traits, runes, stats and conditions, during the HoT release and years following it? Simply disabling elite specs is not going to bring back “good old days” since everything else has been changed also.

The OP’s request is not an ask for a return to the early days, it’s an ask for players who have not spent the cash to unlock the elite specs to be able to avoid competing with players who have.

The original Guild Wars 2 is a dead game that doesn’t exist anymore. There wasn’t f2p accounts originally either. So just rake in the cash to play the Guild Wars 2.1, it is much better anyways.

EotM could be non elite spec map. Of course they should add pips and EotM legendaries there too.

So, you think OP wants developers to spend considerably long time to create new game mechanics and add new code just so players who have not payed anything for the game could continue to play it for free longer and stay competitive against those players who did pay? And that makes sense how? Wouldn’t adding such option make Anet earn less money after all that work?

I write a post clarifying what I believe the OP is asking for, and you turn that into an accusation that I want something?
No, I don’t think the OP’s idea of a map exclusive to players who did not pay for an XPac should be honored. People who paid for an XPac should not be barred from any WvW map. What I would like to see, though, is ANet stick to their old statements about Elite Specs, which is that they were to be side-grades, not up-grades.

Fine, I have rephrased the reply.
Maybe a “No players WvW map”?
No seriously, only because some people didnt pay for the Expac. We will get the same tears with PoF.
Its like: “I dont have a car, so I think we should 30% of the highways and give free train tickets for all without cars”.
Maybe a “No players WvW map”?

Complete utter kitten, i own HoT and might get the next expansion too, The game is currently to unbalanced 50% of the fights i have nowdays are just endless fights where you can’t kill each other so eventually you just disengage. Everyone now has to much passive defense and blocks and blinds and insane heals and stealth all without sacrificing anything. The only way to balance this is to remove the elite specs. If your actually defending elite specs being balanced your a joke and have no experience in WvW what so ever. Get lost with your nonsense claims.

In essence, go to vanilla which has changed as well because people are unwilling to change their playstyle to combat the new specs?

Had you read all of your own thread, you’d have seen that I am not defending Elite Specs as balanced.

I apologize if I misread your intent. Perhaps I did so because you presume that the only way to balance elite specs vs core-only builds is to remove them. That’s the nonsense. If Elite Specs are unbalanced v. core, it’s because ANet hasn’t balanced them, not because they can’t. It’s a problem of intent, not ability.
As to a core-only map? It’s a bad idea.
People who paid for an XPac should not be barred from playing any spec they want on any WvW map.
I support fixing the problem, and don’t want to create different problems, which such exclusion would surely do.
It’s not even about core vs elite spec. Even elite vs elite is complete aids with the bunker meta. Fights aren’t enjoyable and skillbased anymore it’s more about who runs the most circles and has the most passive defense. This kitten needs to go.
Not a chance kiddo.

Continues to amaze me as well. It’s as if those of us that paid money are getting something for free… ??? Yet those that don’t pay want big changes so they can compete as well, with NO cost to them, but big cost to the company. Just doesn’t make sense to me in any way.
As I like to say… you get what you PAY for.
I did not know Guardian was elite specialization, lmao.

You seem to have missed the point. It has nothing to do with letting F2P players compete on equal terms; it’s about letting veterans (all of whom would, by definition, have paid for the game) return to the playstyle they prefer.
The putative non-elite Borderland could be flagged as a HoT map or a PoF map, requiring ownership of one or both of those expansions on the account to access. Once on the map, though, all benefits of owning said expansion(s) would be voided. There is no question of anyone getting it “for free”. Rather the opposite – you would have to pay NOT to get the benefits!
That said, it’s clearly a non-starter. For whatever reason, as countless dev replies and statements have made clear over the years, the way ANet choose to structure and code the game does not permit the kind of relatively easily implemented ruleset variants that you frequently find in other MMOs. Everything takes forever and costs a fortune so it’s pointless imagining it would ever be deemed commercially expedient to do something like this.
You would have a better chance just asking for elite specs to be more balanced with non-elite spec builds.

That’s not even the biggest issue, it’s how cancerous the average fight has become with all the blind/aegis/blocks/evades/stealth/flurry/invulnerability everyone has become immortal and 1 person isn’t enough anymore to kill someone else. The ammount of endless fights where 90% of your hits do nothing has to stop.
I personally would absolutely love this idea. But I also realize it won’t happen, as it would be pretty darn dumb for ANet to do that. And basically what Terrahero said, seems like the best we can hope for:
You would have a better chance just asking for elite specs to be more balanced with non-elite spec builds.
