Any server expansions coming?
Unless you care about playing WvW with your friends, the server you are on doesn’t matter at all.
That’s all I care about. I know about the guesting and being able to play until WvW
but I don’t feel like to spending the gems ($$) to switch servers later. So I am forced to open and close GW2 to find a slot.
And they changed it so it aint people loged in anymore its people who play wvw during the day that determine if its full or not now.
So as tarnished coast is tier 1 belive you wont see that one open up in the forseable future.
Your only action is to get all your friends to move to a low tier server and start working it up in the ranks.
Edit
Opening and closeing your game and loging in during the night wont help you get in anymore.
That is so weird. I thought it was players who have currently chose said specific server as their home world. I have been waiting for someone to switch servers.
ANet recently changed the way they count server population. It’s now based on WvW participation and no longer fluctuate from minute to minute, as the metrics now used are for long periods of time. This means someone can no longer get into a full server by trying late at night and getting a lucky opening.
Your best bet is to get on a non full server, save up gems and move when the metrics are adjusted to account for WvW population shifts and that server drops to very high.
ANet may give it to you.
Honestly i think joining a tier 1 wvw server is the worst thing you can do if you want to WvW, people que in really early in the evening and que times are huge. Your choice if you want to que more then actually play.
Do you know how often they do calculations?

It’s a new system. All they said is that they are monitoring it to see how it goes and making adjustments as needed.
World population changes are coming
A “Full” server is a server with a number of Active WvW Players (as defined by the algorithm) above a certain threshold. It has nothing to do with hardware limitations, or PvE players.
The “Full” threshold is slightly different than the other ones because it doesn’t have an upper limit. So some servers can be just slightly above the threshold and marked “Full”, and some other servers might be well over it, and also marked “Full”, even though their populations aren’t really balanced.
The intent is that since you can’t join or transfer to a “Full” server, their populations are going to diminish over time, until eventually they reach “Very High” again. At this point, all “Full” servers are going to be balanced. This won’t be right away, though, since we’re not kicking anyone out of their servers.
ANet may give it to you.

Assume the “full” status isn’t changing any time soon. The current method looks at how active the WvW population is over long periods of time; it’s design to be “static” from hour to hour or day to day (and probably from week to week, too). So there’s no value is attempting to transfer when the status if “full”. (And yes, that’s a change from how it used to be.)
I believe the current calculation is better than the old: it offers some certainty rather than randomness in transferring. The problem, however, is that there’s no incentive for people to transfer from high-pop worlds into those with lower populations, so at the moment, it’s unlikely that the full servers will become merely high pop any time soon.
I am hoping that ANet plans to announce some new tournaments along with new rewards and some new pricing. (Although I fear that might not happen until HoW.)
