Was wondering if there are any servers who haven’t succumbed to the karma train game play and who still see defense and protecting the home borderland as a valid strategy?

I admit to preferring defence over mindless zerging and would rather use my brain trying to outsmart attackers with effective siege placement but it seems I am now in an ever decreasing minority and the blob has won.

What server are you on currently?

Gunnar’s Hold, was excellent defensively until recently

Piken always try to defend is BL.
But it’s difficult with other server who only run 40+ blob…

Prime time isn’t normally a problem for us but as the hardcore defenders give up and leave we end up giving away too much real estate for free and too many times lately we are losing upgraded stuff because the blob is chasing paper somewhere else.

Not only is the blobbing a problem, people always failing to refresh is also a big issue. You spend so much time putting siege in a tower and it all despawns within an hour because no one can take 60seconds to hop on each unit of siege.

I’ve given up my days of siegeing every tower because no one helps me to take care of the siege I build no matter what server I move to (and I’ve been on a lot of servers at this point.) Now, I just solo roam, look for fights, cap/upgrade camps and towers and that’s about it. If we’re outnumbered or the enemy is aggressively pushing us, instead of siegeing up all the towers, I pick one and go all out. I siege it like crazy and just sit in that tower for a few hours refreshing and scouting until I think it’s safe to leave it alone.

My experience is the lower you go the more prideful the servers are about defense. They make a home bl defending like community and also don’t have to deal wtih unkillable map blobs when outnumbered.

This is also a double edged sword because the farther you go down the less help you’ll have though.

We have the same problem with siege. A handful of people refresh siege and start upgrades and if they are not around it all goes pear shaped pdq. Seems people won’t do anything unless there is something in it for them?

Sounds like you have poor Late NA-OCX coverage (Not surprising for non T1) while your opponent has some Late NA-OCX so they just PvD over you. My advice is either raise money and try to buy a Late NA or OCX guild (unlikely there aren’t many of them to be had) or go to T1 where everyone has some sort of coverage in all TZ’s.

In all honesty if you could bring 10-20 solid home BL defenders I would pay a good chunk of your transfer, especially if you play Late NA.

I’m on Gunnars too – and to be honest, you guys always had troubles to use siege.
Anet didn’t really help with the camera changes so defending is pretty useless. That’s why I personally don’t care anymore. If I’m in a tower that’s attacked I build an AC/Balli and hope for the best – I don’t care about refreshing it anymore as I’m “the only one” anyway and as every potato with an outside AC can destroy everything inside the tower.
On top of that the patch destroyed a lot of the “balance” which was wonky in wvw anyway, that’s another reason I quit for now.
So, don’t blame the server as Gunnar’s is the second best server I’ve been to (the best is dead – but I learned how to wvw from that guys).

Any NA server beyond t4, each server have their blob time and then die, in t3 u still might get a server that can blob the other 2.

Always been a problem.

It’s make your gates hard so your zerg can wipe enemy zerg by surprise or watch all your defensive siege wiped out by an arrow cart with new field of view.

Silverwastes has a few solutions with arrow cart build sites on upgrades and reward loot for defense.

What would happen to wvw if they turned off event rewards and champ loot bags from capturing?

Try EU.

Completely different style of play.

Edit: Just saw you’re on GH .. odd, EU tends to be better than NA on this matter. Maybe just a phase?

we got blobbed whole weekend every 30 minutes with 50+ people and omega golems… we tried defense, but what can you do when you are outmanned 5 to 1 and omegas… same old coverage issue.

Was solely tempted to answer "Eredon Terrace, they don’t have enough people to make a zerg". But the truth is that most servers have periods a day where they don’t have enough people to zerg/karma train. Those periods are just larger the lower in the tiers you get.

You should probably think more about what times a day you play on, and find a server that is slightly weak in that time zone. When your sever is outnumbered, and can’t Zerg the others down, they often focus on defense, and that sounds like where you would be useful. Just try to find one with enough people to actually mount a defense :p

I also see the difference since the time we were on place 11 and the guilds stopped fighting because they thought we were to high placed. But it kinda backfired, people left wvw or even the server.
I still have my GH account and login once in a while, but also made a second account to try the life on Gandara. And I must say it is no different there Tich. Other servers blob too much to upgrade single towers and keep them. Not saying gandara isnt trying but 2 blobs on your borderlands from fsp, sfr, deso will get some of those towers in the end.
EB is well defended but even then zergs/blobs will get some of your stuff.
I can highly recommend gandara as a server btw.

Aurora Glade has a guild for dedicated scouters and we care about defending our border. In fact sometimes we overdoit.

But with the matchup we have in front i can understand that a lot of ppl on Gunnars have chosen not to defend since abbadons blob decides what to engulf 24/7.

I even heard a ridiculous rumour about AM. I’ve been told they have a roamer there.. Have you guys seen him yet?

They have roaming groups of 20-30 players, maybe oversized by my standards but its seems is the normal there.

Most German servers are the same tbh, 5 for a dolyak, 10 for a camp, 30 for a tower and 50 for a keep as long as there are no defenders.

And just like when you are on holiday when they get up early to pinch all the sunbeds by the pool, they also get up early to PvD the map

I can confirm that Gandara’s not the blobbiest of servers but, like GH it seems, we’re not the best when it comes to defending/sieging/refreshing/scouting. It’s usualy the same 5% -10% who do that stuff. Just that we have better overall coverage than we did 18 months ago.

My second account’s on Baruch Bay. There is far more emphasis on defending the home border on BB, even if it means sacrificing EB, which almost never happens on Gandara.

Both servers have a good crowd of regulars who make home border a priority. I don’t speak much Spanish, even after 16 months, but the chicos & chicas on BB have been exceptionally friendly.

Both have to deal with blobs of course, and servers with better coverage. If you like defending, I can reccomend either. There’s usually plenty to be done.

Actually, it seems from what you’re saying, that GH is something like where Gandara was at the start of 2014 when I created my BB account. “All about teh fights.” Still get that kitten from time to time, tho it’s so much better now.
