Any thoughts about PvP gear in WvW?
Fine as is. Leveling in WvW is a nice alternative to doing it in PvE, even if I have to stick with the zerg to do so.
Also I encounter far fewer 80’s than those who are being leveled up to 80.
So, that leaves the imagery that WvW is just used as a leveling method rather than a PvP method.

It is both a leveling method and a PvP method. You can think of it as playing on a PvP enabled MMO server where the quests objectives/mobs are towers/keeps/other players.
I’d also like to add that although I’ve only been doing WvW for a short time from lvl 40-55 now, I’ve racked up over 200 kills which is definitely nothing to brag about, but it is enough to know that I haven’t been useless while in WvW. I really don’t feel that you have to be 80 to enjoy WvW.
Let’s make WvW its own thing and leave spvp and pve be.
I spent the first two months or so after release only doing PvP. All my buddies were level 80 and I was level….6 I think (I admit – I got dragged into a little PvE <sad bears>). I thought WvW would be PvP lite but I was…somewhat wrong. You can find some really great PvP opportunities in WvW by staying with small groups or roaming solo but you can just as easily join with the zerg to change up the momentum. Now, I basically only WvW and never PvP. The level of “PvP competition” may not be as high, but I still find it more enjoyable. I leveled my Mesmer from level 6 to 80 solely from WvW and it was great. Mesmer was an ideal class for that though since it’s pretty easy to escape when needed.
I don’t think I ever got truly “one-shotted” but there were many, many times when I took an 80% hit to HP from one attack. I honestly didn’t find the level disparity to be that big an issue and it probably made me a better PvP’er by playing at such a large disadvantage for so long (i.e. my biggest attacks landing like 1.2k dmg). And I have to say, nothing was more satisfying than taking down a level 80 as an underleveled character. Now that I hit 80 I’ve been considering leveling a warrior through WvW.
Not sure if that helped but there you go.
Last words – “I’m going to jump off this cliff
and pull all those guys down cuz they’ll die.”

But that’s the point of the thread… WvW and PvE are not separate.

I can’t comment on the leveling rate of WvW since I don’t know. But you make it sound relatively speedy, so I may give it a try.
However, I can assure you that you did not kill a level 80 as a non-80. They were either not level 80, or if they were and you DID kill an 80, they were horrible and legitimately had a mental disability. (Like… legitimately. The ratio of video gamers with them is pretty high.)
Also, if you’ve never been 1-shot by an 80, you haven’t fought an 80 Thief or Warrior. They would literally 1-shot you. I do it to actual 80’s, I can’t imagine not doing it to someone with sub-80 armor and health.

Being involved in 200 people dying is not actually getting 200 kills, though. You may feel like you contributed because YOU were doing everything in your power and you maximized your output. But it’s the same as it would be in like… World of Warcraft. Two level 85’s are fighting each other, and you’re the level 23 who landed a couple Fireballs for less than a percentage of their health. Know what I mean? You may have done all of your cooldowns and played really well to survive and land a thing or two on them, but ultimately, you’re just a fly buzzing in their ear.
I know because I’ve seen this from both ends in both games.
And perhaps I can view it, as you said, as a sort of World PvP environment where the quests are towers and players & whatnot, but that still just makes it a casual PvP format rather than an actual competitive one.
But, in the end, maybe that’s the point.
WvW is not PvP, its about tactics and strategy and teamwork, you wanna PvP go to sPvP.
A lvl 2 on an arrow cart does the same damage as a level 80 on an arrow cart. A level 15 carrying 10 supply rebuilds the same amount of wall a level 80 carrying 10 supply does.
Plenty of things lower levels can do to help in WvW, its not an ego competition to see who puts up the biggest numbers or kiss the most invaders, its about taking and holding fortifications.
In the end, any player regardless of level, is only as useful as they make themselves.

Yep. Lots to do along with the pvp side of it. Honestly, I need to try out the pve side of things. All I have done since beta…minus some personal storyline is WvW. I like it and have liked it since since my guy was a little lvl 4 or 5 minion.
So my vote is…its fine as it is.

@Shady C “And I’d wager at least 90% of WvW’ers are just PvE’ers who want to casually participate in the Big Boy Game of PvP”
You have no idea what you are talking about
bah,, Spvp elitists
WvW arent casual at all
ever tried fighting a 30 man zerg with a 10 men group? and said 30 man group is online to kill you 24/7
makes Spvp look casual
