Anyone else think Sentry Points are totally useless?
Most people use the sentries as a way to know if someone or someones are on the roads running towards camps or towers. So I don’t see them as completely useless.

Well, there is that I suppose. Most skilled groups I’ve seen or been in avoid their LoS for that specific reason though. Would still be nice if you could do more with them, though.
Maybe make them upgradeable to have 2-4 guards and send a patrol up and down the road? Make the upgrades cost like 1-5s and not take supply? Wouldn’t make them OP, just able to stop a Yak with no escort and give people a reason to pay some attention to them. As it is they aren’t even worth bothering with unless they’re on the way to someplace you’re going anyway.
Sentries essentially say that a team was at this location recently. When I’m roaming I’ll usually take them, they’re a nice little bonus that helps WvW be a little more rewarding.
However it’s best to leave them alone if you’re attempting to make a surprise attack.
Nope, they let me know where other servers are out on the map when they cap them.

It’s something to do for when you’re outnumbered heavily on a map – along with dolyaks and supply camps.
Outside the tactical of ‘where’ there might be enemies.
I honestly think that they should be capable of stopping a single, unguarded doylack. otherwise, all they serve is a “avoid this crossroad” considering that if you are behind enemy lines, staying off the roads is a good idea, this means that there is really no reason to attack them altogether.
Agreed, a sentry should stop Dolyaks, or at the least, make them turn around.
They are great for small scale PvP. They give a tiny bit of exp/karma and when you take it, someone will come along to take it back.
They should however allow your team’s map to show little red dots (like the green ones for good guys) for every enemy within their LOS, that would make them very useful.
Like Slyther says, it’s best to avoid if them you’re making a surprise attack, but I like to go the other way with it. Because I can kill them solo I’ll often go by water deep into enemy territory and kill one, then waypoint back.
Just a little mayhem in the middle of the game can make the other guys think about their zerg.
ArenaNet stated that they were basicly 1-2 man objectives, so that if you didn’t have a group, or guild, or were just straight being flattened, then you could still achieve something of some manner inside WvW. Much like raiding the Dolyaks on the road.
I do agree however, that they should be able to deter lone Dolyak’s and provide some form or scouting information with their LoS.
Ive seen a sentry kill a Dolyak by himself
