Immortal Stacking groups are a huge problem in wvwvw, if you have lots of players stacking on one area, the AOEs only hit 5 of them.
I know AOE damage is a problem, but I believe that the cap shouldn’t be there, but AOE damage needs reduced to compensate.
Players should be punished for standing in artillery/AOEs, not rewarded.
The stacking can be counter measured with Fear and knockdowns, assuming there isn’t any stability boons. The AoE damage shouldn’t be nerfed because people can’t figure out a way around the stacking…
Turtle stacking has many counters. It was very big in T1/T2 for awhile until groups figured out counters.
Just gotta figure it out. Turtle stacking is ONLY effective when people do not know how to counter it. Once you know how to counter it they are just a bunch of dead bodies stacked ontop of each other.

Actually, it wasn’t about players figuring out counters. It was ArenaNet removing all abilities that healed more than 5 players, like many used to. For example, the Guardians Virtue of Resolve and Empower skills used to heal infinite numbers of targets, so if you had 8 Guardians or so, you could mitigate insane amounts of damage.
With regards to stacking players now… you can’t expect to kill 50 people with few just because you’re all AoE spamming. If you only have a few people, that’s when you use siege.

We are rewarded for maintaining tactical formation under fire.

Exactly! You find a counter. All you need is open field siege and a turtle stack turns into dead bodies.
Stack turtling hasn’t been very good since they capped aoe heals.
It’s decent in certain situations where you got a choke point but other than that it’s not very optimal.
