This may be the wrong section, and if it is, I apologize.

I’ve played a Thief and a Guardian and neither really tickle my fancy.. I was wondering what the highest AoE dps class was for WvW. PVE doesn’t interest me as much but I figure that it would be pretty similar for that..

engineer I think has best aoe skills ether that or ele

Thief Cluster Bombs I was able to get 5-8k crits on each target. so I Like it.

Engi, Warrior, Ele (not highest dps but lots of AoE), Necro. Not in any particular order.

grenade engi. if you have the right team to back you up, go glass. crate does 3-4k, barrage 7-9k, shrapnel 3-4k, even regular grenades do 2.5-3.5k. all at 1500 range

If you’re playing with an organised group, necro and eles are always in high demand for their AoE damage and other support skills.

Engies definitely do more aoe damage over elementalists. They have less variety of aoe, but still more consistency.

Lol elementalist is hands down the hardest hitting aoe class.

I main grenade engi with 400 world ranks, and I can say that power necro is your best bet. The reflections in a zerg v zerg are all over the place, and its hard to tell which are from allies/enemies. Ele is also nice, and has great support with statics and waterfields.

grenade engi is a walking suicide commando.
retaliation or a reflection wall and you are pretty much toast.

About AoE: Nothing can beat wells. Best AoE skills hands down.

Ele or Necro. Meteor shower has a ton of DPS because it hits 5 targets per meteor. Combine that with a tornado to double your power, and you can hit pretty hard.

Necros have wells.

I have both a necro and engy. I prefer power necro in zergs since like naphack said grenade engy’s are suicide in zergs.

I have played an AOE spec ele forever that i have been very happy with in WvW. When you unload a meteor shower on a choke point along with a lava font the AOE damage you dish out is amazing. If you have the talent that reduces your skill cool downs as well you can dish it out even faster. Not to mention your auto attack also explodes on contact and does AOE damage. Add the arcane talent blasting staff for increased AOE radius and your in business. Join a zerg, stick to the mid – back row and throw down AOE where it counts and youll be laughing at all the bags dropping

I’ve gone from full health to 0 all from retaliation.

IMO necro or ele. Necro has wells and every attack is an aoe. Ele has meteor shower and frost bow. Meteor shower alone can destroy whole zergs when you have 2-3 eles stack it on a spot.

Have a necro/engi/ele, not actually done the power necro thing yet tho

I highly prefer the AoE of Engi as you can do it from far away and on the move. In my matchups I usually do not have problems with retal but I can definitely see why it would cause problems on higher tier servers or organized matches.

Ele AoE Damage is strong but I hate the fact that the range is 1200/900 and you are effectively rooted channeling meteor storm. I find it a lot riskier than lobbing grenades at 1500 and on the move.

Necro and Ele are better choices. Either work, but Necro is the beefier of the two.

Necro wells have a range of 600 and Cluster Bomb has a range of 900 and is spammable

Currently running a glass cannon ele in WvW. Meteor Shower deals about 6k-8k damage depending on what you hit (x 24 meteors x 5 targets if every single meteor hits). Besides that you have Water Fields + Static Field + Unsteady Ground which are extremely useful.

Don’t get in the middle of the enemy zerg though. You will die instantly no matter what hits you.^^
