AoE Limit

I hate the 5 person cap as my necro does pretty much nothing else except aoe,the last day me and about 10 others were defending from the biggest zerg I’d ever seen,so I was laying fear marks on the door to knock them off the rams and stop them hitting the gate but because of the cap I have to waste epidemic to hit everyone and thats a waste of a skill just to transfer one condition
I notice people don’t understand why no AoE cap is bad. It’s bad because it makes mage classes far more powerful than any other class in the game. You could put a glass cannon build on an elementalist, throw several of them up on a wall, and have them cast whatever AoE they want on a zerg, almost completely wiping out a single zerg, who are probably experiencing lag and can’t tell you’re casting it. That’s far too overpowered.
Hell, how would you feel if you were attacking a tower and your entire attacking force got wiped out BY 5 PEOPLE ALONE? That’s what you’re asking to be possible. I say nay, I already encountered that in another MMO I played a while back, and you want to know what all of the people on their force played because of that? MAGES. There were almost no other classes on their side, just mages, and we lost every war for 5 months because of it. That punishes anybody who isn’t a mage. So NO, DON’T EVER DO THIS ANET! DON’T EVER REMOVE THE CAP!

Your group would have to be extremely horrible, I mean beyond comprehension terribad to let 5 people wipe a group even if there was no AoE cap. Besides. Do you think that only the other side will have massive AoE?
And the game you at are talking about is garbage that is why we are playing here.

People like you are probably the reason the AoE cap is there in the first place. They want to make it too easy for the people who can’t give a kitten to dodge stuff. A zerg foolish enough to stand in the middle of AoE being cast by 5 people should deserve to die. But instead you guys want to promote this mindless zergball mentality, and I can’t even begin to understand why.
Just jump out of the way of the aoe, heal yourself then hit them with aoe dodge back, rinse and repeat it really couldn’t be that hard,I put marks on walls and that does the trick
The AoE cap definitely needs a change.
Plenty of times I`m helping someone get back up from dead/downed & had someone cast AoE on me & I haven`t had to move.
There`s perhaps once or twice I`ve been hit & it`s never been enough for me to have to move.
Sure removing the cap completely may be ott, but why not put it to twenty like Mesmer portal or fifteen, but five is just pointless/ridiculous.

I dodge when possible. However, when it starts to lag that bad, I get the ‘input lag’ we see so much dealing with skills and other things, and unfortunately dodge is a part of that. I spam the hell outta V to dodge for 7 seconds, and only after that 7th second will it let me dodge. In that time, I’ve been taken out by whatever zerg is attacking me. You have to remember that there ARE other things that deal with it other than a player’s skill at times…and you don’t have to tell me about dodging, I abuse it whenever possible in WvW, especially when I start seeing a massive attack or AoE on me whenever I’m not lagging. When I am lagging, and that ‘input lag’ isn’t in effect, I start dodging the second I see the numbers come up on me.

Its such a hamfisted mechanic.
Anet made ae attacks very prevalent with high damage. Instead of fixing that they artificially limit the number of people it hits.
In DAoC attacks typically broke cc effects so throwing random ae around was a good way to get blacklisted from every group ever. What about something like making certain ae attacks grant a short duration of stability or something.
It doesent specifically have to be that, just something to make people think before throwing ae around.

Input lag like that is just another thing that needs to be looked at, because these lags can get really bad, especially during three-way SM fights. However, I don’t think the AoE cap is very relevant to that issue. Game balancing shouldn’t be related to bug/lag fixing.

AoE isnt cast by 5 people – its cast by 50 people. Each individual in an AoE zerg may not be able to hit more than a certain amount of targets, but the targets can be hit by infinite AoE.
Have you ever tried dodging 100 Necro wells hitting you at once as your framerate goes from 60 to 2? Its not that easy
Anyone with half a brain can see the AoE zergs in WvW. Its a boring and dull mechanic. Especially for the opposition, since its mostly just creating a pretty lightshow.
But I have to say, seeing AoE zergs consisting of mostly rangers, elementalists and mesmers get absolutely “zergballed” by organized guild groups half or a third their size can be fun. They always scatter like scared little rats at the thought of physical confrontation.

I’ve never understood why so many players don’t get that. The game has a bug someplace so their response is to cry for buffs/nerfs elsewhere. It makes no sense to me and typically creates a cascading flow of undesirable secondary effects. If a street has potholes you don’t require all cars to be retrofitted with bigger wheels.

Haha that reminds me Dawdler, I saw a few groups of those classes last night being used by YB. Made for an interesting match, but we managed to push them back after 15 minutes (it was pretty much a 12v30 battle).

I think most reasonable people that have played wPvP seriously, would know that removing AoE target limit is not a great idea, to not say idiotic.
Edit: Lol at people that say the counter to aoe is to dodge out of it, indeed it is a good counter, but going from being hable to dodge aoe to no target limit in aoe is a huge leap in logic.

I know it’s not just 5 people AoEing, that was just in reply to RyuDragnier. But on the subject of zergballing, I find it a very unnatural playstyle and to me it’s very illogical that the counter to AoE would be to zergball up. Put the almost instant resses on top of that, AoE would hardly do anything at all to that zergball maintaining their position on the same spot. I don’t even mind if AoE damage is nerfed across the board, it could even be neccessary for balance. The limit however, is something that should either be removed or increased to 10+.
If I put down a Meteor Shower it will hit 5 people.
If I use Hundred Blades into a stacked group of 10 people. How many of these people will take damage? Or just simply swinging my sword

All the people that say AoE should have a player cap plays in a zerg and doesn’t want any implementations to the game where the might have to show a little more skill. If a zerg is fighting in a clump against a small group, they should surely lose the fight. If it is a skilled zerg that spreads out to avoid that AoE, they should win. The way it is right now there is no need for skill in a zerg.

This guy nailed it, aoe limit is needed. Every word he says is true…

I find it hilarious that GW2 AoE encourages people to stack on top of each other. It is meant to force people to spread out but does exactly the opposite. (It’s almost comical)

How much more hilarious is it over the fact that GW2 AoE encourage people to AoE zerg on one spot?
Not that much really.
