Applied Fortitude and Strength to be removed
Or perma stuns/knockdowns which is imo another thing that should get finalyl balanced by added a cooldown on Hard CCs like there is one for stealth..
Get hard ccced and you should get a resistance for 4s or so for hard ccs
But thats another topic …
The nerf of Stability was bad.
Why should the game balance cater to newer players by penalizing the choices of veteran players. You can’t and should not be able to pick something up and instantly be on a level playing field with someone who is a veteran of that something.
You’re right, they shouldn’t. Veteran players should be more skilled and practiced in WvW and therefor have an advantage over new players. I don’t see a reason to artificially inflate that advantage with a stat buff. Unless you’re telling me you’ve learned nothing that could give you a leg up over less experienced players in WvW then you shouldn’t need applied stats.
And to address all the disdain for new players in this thread in general: if something isn’t growing, it’s dying. You want a revitalized world vs world scene? You want Anet to give a kitten about you? You need some new blood.
Lol, the ability to read must have become really hard these days….
The effects of the WvW buffs for kills won’t get removed.
They will just get baselined into the Rank System as automatic effects that you unlock for your characters once you reach WvW Rank 100 and Rank 200.ANet nerfed absolutely nothign here at all!
They completely did the opposite >.> How people don’t grasp this on firts sight is absolutely not understanndable:
LOL… at the arrogance in this post. You pulled this kitten from the German site. Collin went on Reddit (because like Anet don’t read their own forums) and corrected this as being wrong.

Sorry for assuming, like it should be correctly, that patch notes include the same content, regardless about it in which language they are written.
How should I know please, that our German Version had such an extreme error, that isn’t just a translation error, but a completely different content and meaningbehind the message.
I realized just later, that I got deceived by false information and when I was fully sure, that I was wrong, it was already too late to correct what I posted :P
People are seriously defending Applied Fortitude / Strength? The mastery that gave you a ridiculous stat boost for what—-training down useless NPCs? And required you to grind out 230 mastery points in order to do so? You guys thought this mechanic made WvW better?
It should never have been added to the game in the first place. WvW was fine without it; I don’t ever remember anyone back then asking for an unnecessary grind in order to get a huge stat boost. Kudos to ANet for getting rid of it.
The bigger issue that nobody is talking about is that ACs are getting buffed YET AGAIN (5% damage modifier going up to 10%)
I personally agree with the changes they propose. The guard stacking was always a very bad idea.

Oh.. I know it isn’t your fault that ANet kittened up the patch notes over the various versions.
But your snarky comment… “Lol, the ability to read must have become really hard these days….” doesn’t have anything to do with their patch notes either, and that’s what I’m calling you out on.

Do u tell ur boss not to give u a raise b/c u want to be on the same playing field as the new hired huh? When ppl work for something hard, they need something in return for their accomplishment.
like u havent notice WvW is for pvers? just like eotm. Good news is Blade & Soul is coming out this winter.
Bad news is that blade and souls is a non western mmo that I have not the slightest of interest in.

Of course they need something in return. The thing they get in return just doesn’t need to be an extraneous leg up over new players.

If they want the Applied buffs, they should have to goto wvw and get the ranks same as everyone else, new players should not be given things old players have worked for.

You know, if I would have had the same info directly, which I have now, then I surely would have written something completely different from the begin on Hexalot…
Why should the game balance cater to newer players by penalizing the choices of veteran players. You can’t and should not be able to pick something up and instantly be on a level playing field with someone who is a veteran of that something.
People who farmed ranks in order to gain these buffs did so by giving up coin for boosters/time to farm them, why should they be penalized because someone thinks new players that will come with hot deserve to be on a level playing field. They really don’t, they will not have put in the time nor effort, nor have gained the sufficent experience to be on a level playing field, and limiting our stat choices is a silly way to try to cater to new players.
Do you think a new player will be on par with the veterans, when he joins the first time WvW? Even without those buffs and equal gear, this player will most likely be destroyed. Another veteran on the other hand has those buffs most likely. So why should you increase the already existing disadvantage for new players? While for the veterans it is all the same. Those buffs were a mistake in their initial implication. They had never a place in WvW imho.
And this sense of entitlement – like: I farmed that, I deserve it, it is mine, you are not allowed to take it away – is one community created factor that at least drives ppl I know away from WvW.
Chronomancy works, I am proof of it. Now stop asking me questions. Time must be preserved!
Dumb change. There was already barely any sense of progression and now they are just removing this in favor of casual players that won’t stick around anyway because of terrible rewards. Veteran players get shafted as usual.
Oh boy, all those rank points that I can’t use are sure going to be worthwhile now that the other lame abilities cost even less…
I’m actually happy about the upgrade change. Nothing worse than someone burning all the supply in a keep/smc before prime because they’re new/trolling.
Now they just need to allow you to override a claim if it’s providing no buffs.
There has to be some positives out of a lot of this you guys are disliking. It seems like these changes can’t all be bad, and your focusing on one or two negatives over the other things. A few of these negatives just seem to be, it a change, i don’t like it, but why, as it giving you guys more points back it seem, to put into something else, I guess if they do return when they reduce the stuff.
People are seriously defending Applied Fortitude / Strength? The mastery that gave you a ridiculous stat boost for what—-training down useless NPCs? And required you to grind out 230 mastery points in order to do so? You guys thought this mechanic made WvW better?

Well the mastery points are about the only signal of accomplishment we get in WvW (yeah I’m THAT close to getting Yakslapper, only 999,000 more yaks to go) and some of us did work to get those points, playing the game as it was presented to us. Now they moved the goal posts on us again and flushed our work down the drain and handing the reward out to everybody instead. Not exactly inspiring for continuing play.
This is a great thing, power creep roaming has been out of control in WvW. Honestly if they removed food, utility buffs and stacking sigils, it would get even better and likely you would see less people staying in the safety of the zerg.
I jumped from WvW to PvP and PvP is so much more balanced and a real challenge.

First they break WvW, then they dumb it down, and now they take any incentive to leave sieged objectives if out numbered or being outplayed. Keep on going anet, I’m sure you can make WvW even more boring / stale so the only people that play the maps are karma trainers that fancy a change from EOTM.
How about an announcement to say you are fixing the achievements? Or fixing the long term bugs that plague WvW? Or balance classes and traits to create multiple viable metas? Or redo the PPT mechanic so it’s more fun?
Nope you just remove anything the WvW crowd had as a ‘bonus’ for actually bothering to commit to a game mode that has very little support and is near enough the same as the day it came out. I wonder how big a fuss the PvErs would throw up if the certain npcs needed for rewards suddenly went friendly and sat there chatting to you, if they had to complete 500,000 dungeons for a kittenty title, kill 1 million bosses for 10ap or had to scout a keep in silverwastes for 8 hours on the off chance a rare event spawns.
You’ve already dulled down and crucified the game mode, the GvG scene is a fraction of what it is. Don’t make it any worse and actually listen to the active WvW crowd, soon it will be a glorified karma train.
And then I’ll be shouting in the general section that new players can jump straight into WvW and compete, well I don’t like to PvE so to compete with the PvErs I want full ascended gear and accessories so I can play high level factuals without the grind or effort of getting there.
Small steps at a time, I’ve played and commanded since day 1, and I’m finally having enough of this crap. Fix the game mode, don’t kitten it up anymore!

I dont know why people are crying. I had multiple characters with both guard traits before both eotm and the account bound wvw ranks. They were never hard to get.
Delete every wvw trait for all I care, most of them are cancerous siege crap anyway

The dumbed down stats in PvP are a big part of the reason why cele specs are so strong. There isn’t a power creep in WvW, there is just higher stats which adds a wider variety of viable builds.

yeah, nice ‘balance’ will we see the gold cost of ascended reduced to make it available to new players too? you know, to make sure noobs don’t have lower stats.

Ascended armor and weapons were a much worse addition to WvW than stacks were. You earned your stacks through playing WvW, that’s why they belong there. Being able to craft higher stats is stupid.

Yeah but the cele amulet is getting a nerf in PvP. And there are still plenty of full zerk classes running in PvP, I go up against them daily. Im one of them.
I also can say, in WvW I can almost one shot people as a thief, in PvP I cant and I have to fight.
WvW its all about who gets the first hit, no extended fighting and real fighting as it is in PvP.
The dumbed down stats allows for better recovery from bursts, thieves dont even need to run SA (well I dont in WvW), Power Creep doesnt exist in PvP like it does in WvW.
(edited by nightblood.7910)
IMO, in player-vs-player environments, vets and noobs should be on as equal footing as possible (game-mechanics-wise); and so locking Applied fortitude and strength behind tons of WXP was a bad idea.
I’d advocate getting rid of both masteries altogether except for the fact that the vitality disparity between professions is grossly unbalanced.
In any case, WvW is a dying game mode (due to dev neglect rather than unpopularity) that needs new players and giving them a major disadvantage right off the bat is not a good idea.
Now if they’ll just get rid of that ridiculous borderlands bloodlust, that’d be another step in the right direction.

Or be insanly lucky with drops, so far that one isnt working out for me
Well, I mean, I’ve always supported a nerf to guard stacks. My problem goes within the reasoning of it, since it is a fairly sweeping change to wvw and for it to be based around new players— it doesn’t seem to care much about the impact on how wvw is currently played for current players. The level playing field argument makes no sense to me since consumables break balance even more and there’s been no effort in that area— in fact there’s creep in that area with stuff like Sweet Bean Buns— it’s gotten worse. In any case, there has been little evidence to suggest wvw was ever designed with fairness in mind; however, if there is truly a sincere intent to put that into action, I can’t say I’m opposed.
It’s simply too sudden of a large change; I would have supported a nerf or even removal had I felt this had been a big complaint for seasoned players. But this seems like an unsolicited change. Now, I certainly do understand the forums don’t represent everyone but to me it represents a long line of questionable decisions made towards wvw that seem very rash and where the didn’t seem to consult for feedback or concerns from. This also isn’t excluding the changes that were made to pve or pvp and “leaked” onto wvw, making wvw seem like an afterthought.
And also, I did not spend points on guard stacks at first. I spent them on stuff like supply mastery and other stuff that gave a faster return; the guard stacks were just a long term goal.
HOWEVER….
Despite the negativity, if this is the start of a concerted effort to balance all 3 game modes separately, then I’m all ears. But I am skeptical.
TL;dr On the wall for the change, dislike manner of handling and the rationale behind it.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Then you are fighting zerglings or brand new players. Look for the roamers and duelists. I had a 1v1 yesterday that lasted at least 10 minutes before I finally killed the guy.
I’ve even had fights where my opponent and I were both full zerk that lasted a few minutes because we would kite and evade.
I’ve never gotten a fight that good in PvP because the game mode isn’t about fighting, it’s about holding points. The zerk players avoid 1v1 and the sustainy players just focus on disputing the point until their teammates can rotate to them.

I must say I’m not happy about the removal of the applied fortitude and strength buffs (as a squishy ele, I need as much vitality as I can get!). And as a player with a rank of 3,243 and having the lines cost less points (which is a good thing – especially the supply capacity one, that’s been long overdue), it’s just odd that I’ll have even more points that I cannot find a use for.
I would have thought at least by giving us more points in theory, that they would be adding MORE WvW ability lines to spend our excess points on :-/ now I wonder if I’ll EVER be able to spend my additional WvW ability points on anything.
Right now, I have an excess of over 1800 WvW ability points, which will be even more after this update happens. And I don’t mind extra points, it’s just… I wish I had something to spend them on :-/

^ boom. probably should have elaborated more, but that was my point. so, it’s fine to have higher stats in wvw through gold grind, but not from ranking up? yeah, we all know it’s because only one of those you can buy through gems.

Ultimately, I LIKED not having to die as an engineer when there was a fight greater than 5-10 people. The bonus of fortitude was my reward for getting my WvW ranks. If that says as a baseline thing, cool.
On the issue of siege, Anet just doesn’t get it. The attack power of unmanned siege is 0. it will always be 0. If you raised the damage by 200%, it’s still 0. Siege is more often unmanned than not.
Because on MOST servers, there’s no appreciable defending force. There is the zerg, a few scouts, and the roamers, and THAT’S IT. Defending anything besides a keep is a massive waste of time, in 90% of cases.
1. In defending 1 structure against a massively superior force (which you have allowed by siding with the server stacking gold buyers, and not the people who work to win), you will lose 2-3 camps/towers.
2. When there isn’t a fight going on, there’s NOTHING going on, and let me tell you, scouting in a tower gets boring. Very, very boring.
3. There ware no appreciable rewards for defending anything. Ultimately, 3-5 silver in my pocket does not inspire me to run halfway across a map anymore, especially when I’m in the process of papering a T2 or T3 from the other guys side. And it’s sure not enough to make me stand there for hours on end, again.
You make money attacking, not defending. Defend a yak? 1 set of event rewards. Take an enemy camp? 1-2 yak events + the camp + mini chest from supervisor. Take a tower/keep/garri? Event rewards, + champ bag + additional loot from guards. Defend a tower/keep/garri? Stand on a wall and wait for 4 hours(or 15) for nothing to happen, maybe scavenge the resource nodes outside the walls, and kill critters.
So I’ll say it again. No. Appreciable. Rewards. For. Defending.
Finally, good thing they’re getting rid of them. Should have never been implemented.

You just described perfectly why there is a game mode called PVP and one called WvW. You want a game mode where everyone is standardized, “balanced” with virtually no advantage whatsoever with everyone using virtually the same thing ?
Go to PVP.
Awesome, ANet found one more way to lube up real good and screw the WvW players again.
So since you’re catering to PvE players once again in WvW and taking away things from the veteran WvW players once again, why not just make WvW all PvE? Don’t have to fight real people, we can just fight guards all day! <end sarcasm>
I’m rank 2145 in WvW personally. So to me, having 755 unused points that I can do NOTHING with, this is especially annoying. I earned my ranks by actually playing the game in WvW, I did so before EOTM even was a thing where everyone can achieve high ranks.
Your WvW player base was looking for improvements, not nerfs. This is not an “Upgrade” to WvW, this is a nerf to those of us who have spent a lot of time playing WvW and have even accounted for the Applied Fortitude and Applied Strength in to our builds. I’ve personally built all of my characters to have their ideal stats when they HAVE those buffs. So now, my characters become glassier and I either have to rethink my builds or try to deal with being able to take less hits. Not like you care since you’ll get more money from the players who don’t want to farm to fix their builds to make up for it.
I really hope the devs read this and actually put forth time to reply instead of just plugging their ears because our input is not actually what they want to hear. You screwed WvW when you went to the “mega server” idea, which hurt everyone trying to pull their PvE player base in to WvW, now you continue to hurt WvW and call it an upgrade? Give me a break.

When I was watching some pvp matches on twitch it almost looked like mini wvw. ‘Zerging’ down single players with 3 or 4, and standing on circles. Wasnt very fair fighting imo.

But… why does that matter when NO ONE has applied fortitude and strength? It still becomes the same thing. Sure you have less vitality and less power – the enemy got less vitality and less power as well. Equal terms. But its still PvE gear, with all its options and diversity, far more than PvP setups.
We managed to do WvW just fine before the WvW skill system was even thought of. No bonuses to siege (remember when arrowcarts did no damage?), no player buffs, no borderlands buff etc.
This is also a good buff to guild fights in open WvW. No more one side killing everyone and them wanting to have a second go at each other, but now its completely loopsided because one side has buffs and the other dont. Isnt this what we want? This change will be great for balancing small scale and roamers. No more coming fresh out of spawn and meeting that 1 thief that’s so buffed he can barely walk right. Again, isnt this what we want?
I really dont understand why people are so negative. The added buff was meaningless to begin with. It didnt make WvW better.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
I can’t believe some are arguing for guard stacks. Anet has been moving away from power creep. They removed stacking sigils without keeping the weapon equipped and now they’re removing guard stacks. This is 500 stat points that some builds have lost, mainly the ones that shouldn’t have had it in the first place.
Good riddance to those buffs. If they want to bring them back, put them in their own WvW Mastery lines… not at the end of a completely irrelevant one.
Oh well, as a vet player, I wouldn’t need these buffs to kill someone that had full stacks. I’ve killed plenty people straight out the gate without guard stacks. And I’ll keep killing people please with or without them.
We’re they nice to have? Sure. Will they effect me at all on any class/build I play? No.

Guard killing buffs are always easy to obtain. The only tedious on is the 25 stack bloodlust thingy. It’s a pain to build these, that’s why I do not like to go down.
Don’t you still get massive bonus for being a veteran of wvw anyways, a couple extra stacks of stats can’t be that big of a difference maker, and in fact, you can refocus your rank points to other things too.
I do not think it was a needed change but I 100% love it. Thanks you Anet and please stick to your guns on this one.
To be honest, I personally do not understand why anybody would be against this change but I think people complain over everything nowadays. So many grumpy people in the forums.
The only legit reasons for anybody to be upset is that there was PvE stacks in the first place.
Many of the other players who are complaining about this change sound like they were using the stacks a crutch for their builds, lack of skill, or both.
I also want to point that have all my mastery lines unlocked but I fully welcome this change.
So long PvE stacks

anet added something and only to remove it later, it show that whoever design it, is a bad planner

Not exactly sure yet why this should be ‘improvement’, I feel it’s again catering the beginners and taking away sense of progress and achievement.
What is this ‘achievement’ you speak of, you really regard playing a video game for X number of hours as an ‘achievement’?
Bad change imo.
It would have been fine if the guard stacks were never introduced in the first place but we’ve had it for so long now that I (and I’m sure many others) have geared our characters based on those stacks.
Don’t make me have to spend thousands of gold having to re-gear all my characters. Ascended gear is ridiculously expensive and I don’t want to have to do it again. It doesn’t even take long to get 230 points.
