Q:
Are there any tiebreakers in Season 2?
Since the glicko is being used as tie brakers for ranking purpose (in making the matchups), I belive they will use glicko as the final tie breaker aswell. But it’s just a hunch, i can’t say for sure.
WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing
Yes, but there were no tiebreakers in Season 1. It’d be nice to get a dev response to clarify this.
Just in case any devs actually read this, ties determined by glicko is a very cavemanish approach. Ties should be determined by count back if server A and B are tied and server B placed ahead of A when facing each other for the majority of the matches they were in together then B should place higher then A regardless of glicko.
there was no tie breaker in Season 1.
and if you look at this leaderboard https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/wvwsilver , the is no tie breaker for tournament position.

There are no tiebreakers on the leaderboards, but Glicko is still used in case of ties for matchup determination. It’s not crazy to think that Glicko might be used to determine post-season rewards.
Again, would be nice to get a dev response.
i think it will be just like season 1, no tie breaker for position.
but yes, dev response would be nice.

In EU leaderboard, we had BB ahead of Desolation when they had same points.
Deso had higher glicko rating
BB had more first and second place.
My guess is number of 1st second and third places will be counted.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
By the same token, B as in Baruch Bay comes before D as in Desolation in the alphabet.
(I have to know! In WvW, do Legendary NPCs drop Legendary loot?)

jade sea at 5th place with same points as Vizunah and Riverside.
But Riverside position doesn t make much sense.

It’s funny to see all the speculation. Why Anet didn’t give this information out when the tournament began, I have no idea. Pretty ridiculous.
after season 1 we had SAMEkittenMATCH-up as it was on last week of the league for 3 more weeks!!!!!!!!!!! We where puking on each other in wvw, not fighting, it was so embarrasing. (SFR-kitten-Piken)
Need a fix to that won’t happen after this season or i call my China friends and they will leave the game!!!!
tiebreakers are necessary during the season because every server needs to be put into a specific matchup every week.
but for the end of season rewards, why does it matter? if 2 servers are tied for first place, give them both the first place rewards, then give the third place rewards to the #3 server. since no server came in second place, nobody would get the second place rewards in this example.

I’m beginning to think Anet hasn’t even decided whether there will be tiebreakers. I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t clarify for us, despite repeated inquiries.

- A pretty important question — there are going to be a ton of ties… and a lot of people either are or aren’t going to get enough tickets for a mistforged weapon depending on the answer.
- A pretty simple to answer question — either yes or no. It’s that simple.
The only possible conclusion is that they don’t care to answer — they just can’t be bothered to do so.
It just shows how much of a sham this “tournament” is when even the most basic of rules are unknown to the participants.

15 seconds is how much time it takes to read and reply to this question. They don’t have 15 seconds?
Does it really matter?

Yes, it matters a lot. As we approach the final weeks of the tournament, the strategies of many servers depend on whether or not Glicko will be used as a tiebreaker. For example, if Glicko will be used to tiebreak, it may not be wise to go all out in week 8 and land in a tougher matchup in week 9, which will deflate your Glicko. Alternatively, if Glicko won’t be used to tiebreak, it’d be better to go all out in week 8 and ensure a higher placing, regardless of outcome in week 9. This is the situation for a number of servers.

If there is no tiebreaker then two servers could contrive a result to tie each other. TC could be allowed the win again in week 8 to generate a 4 point gap to JQ, and they close the gap back to square by TC not turning up in week 9 and finishing 3rd to JQ 1st.
Hmm – I wonder if that might finally be a bit too much ladder manipulation for even Anet to swallow. There is no doubt though that a sharing of the spoils is deserved.
Can anyone from Anet answer this?
Anet plans on having a random number generator break the tie.
… as there are even grave mistakes in the official ladder-list, I don’t expect to much from placement after end of season:

They even can’t get the numbers of matches/places right for some servers, so …
Apart from that, using Glicko-rating for match-up decisions, and score points for last standings would be somewhat inconsistent, because Glicko-rating gives you often harder match-ups, while in lesser tiers there would be a 1st place achieved much easier.
In other words, your server possibly could do well the whole season, staying in upper tiers (often bey rating instead of points) and in the last weeks others (who played in lesser tiers) get the better/easier last match-ups because of lesser Glicko-rating and end up with more points.
For me, I have no real idea, how standings will be determined in the end, but I fear, they won’t reflect the “performance” of most servers during the season correctly

Ties will be broken by the amount of tears that server members shed on the forums during season 2.
