Arena.net's Big Misconception....
Who said it was casual?
What….. the…… kittens…
Where did you read ANets point of view on this? their WvW system is inspired by Daoc RvR where hardcore players didn’t sleep at night to take watch at keeps or look over relics for possible stealth raid.
I cannot find the article, but Arena.net said WvW = casual Spvp=hardcore

These aren’t the droids we’re looking for.
Here’s one of the original discussions of WvW: http://www.arena.net/blog/mike-ferguson-on-guild-wars-2-world-vs-world
Please note I’m not saying the OP is correct in his opinion of what Anet said, just providing the blog post I assume caused the opinion.

tl;dr
I found an article related to WvW but contains nothing to support OP
I’ve always viewed the pvp’s as this
SPVP: Tactics
WVW: Strategy
Both are pretty hardcore. It’s just easier to jump in on WvW for the regular player. Start joining guilds that have a real focus on wpvp and you’ll see how different the dynamics are and the various team play is.
Or you just posted this thread to troll.
Google “WvW” casual, you’ll find several GW2guru threads referring to exactly what i said, same thing on here. We are not just “making it up”
I doubt you’ll ever find a quote from ANet stating that “WvWvW will only attract the casuals and nobody will take it all seriously”.
They did state that it would be more appealing to casuals (compared to sPvP) but that is completely different to what the OP is saying.
