Armor repairs
Remove repair costs, add waypoint costs.
Voila….reduced the negative perception of death in WvW without actually changing the bottom line.
I think the aim of having breakable armor in WvW is for that very reason. They want you to fear death, there has to be in their books, a punishment for being too brazen or reckless.
If my gear didn’t break, hell I’d be running into Zergs like a mad woman with my greatsword to hell with everyone, ima kill something!
Because there is no reason not to.
I’m guessing gear breaking is their way of deterring that sort of behavior and making the player slow down and think before acting.
I don’t really agree of course, I think that way pointing and running ALL the way across the map to get back is enough punishment for me, but that’s probably the reasoning behind it.

it’s never going to happen
you can suicide into a zergs siege and take it down 1/5 or maybe even 1/4 before they get to kill you, you think that’s fair? there is no strategy when dieing comes at no cost

This is the one mechanic that actually makes mindlessly zerging put the zerg at a disadvantage.
Leave it as is, you already have enough handicaps.
