1. Hacking and Cheating reporting/response from anet/web team has to change and improve. It is neither effective now nor is it intuitive enough.
2. More tools and features integrating/involving guilds in WvW.
3. Some sort of workaround of the aoe limit of 5. i.e ways to counter blobs and stacking.
4. Real content for WvW. such as new core maps, or changes to the current ones.
5. Better ways to balance pop/coverage that doesn’t involve staking servers as all the Season 1 and Tournament 1 did..

I really appreciate the effort that went in to EotM, but it also highlight for me just how amazing the original maps are. They’re just beautiful and elegant. The simplicity allows the focus to be on the WvW and not bouncing noobs off a bridge.

I really appreciate the effort that went in to EotM, but it also highlight for me just how amazing the original maps are. They’re just beautiful and elegant. The simplicity allows the focus to be on the WvW and not bouncing noobs off a bridge.

This. Simplicity is far more important than gimmicks and putting features over every square inch of the land. Look at the bloodlust area and EoTM — both have turned out to be massive failures.

1. Mitigate population discrepancies/coverage imbalance.
2. Encourage attacking the stronger/winning server not playing for second.
3. AC change: Make the AC damage scale with the number of enemies in the red circle. This would have two positive effects: 1. Mollify those that say AC’s are too powerful. 2. Act as an anti-blob mechanism that many people want.
4. New Maps/Map changes – at least put something worthwhile in the NW and NE corners of the BLs.
5. Reward/make worthwhile defending.

We can more or less agree on EotM, but I’m curious why you think bloodlust is a failure. It seems to me that in terms of game mechanics, it does precisely what it is supposed to.

Anyway, on the topic, I agree that now that population balance seems to be effectively off the table, actual new content – primarily new maps – moves up to the no. 1 spot in terms of priorities for WvW.

I agree with this. I do not think bloodlust was a failure.

1) It gives roamers and havocs another objective on the map.
2) I’ve seen commanders assigned players to form havocs to prioritize on capping bloodlust which is a step to “anti-zerging.”
3) It reduces the impact of ppt on the scoring system since fights which leads to stomps add a big chunk to the overall score.

Wasn’t a thread exactly like this one already made a couple of months ago? What has changed since then? These threads are a nice way to get the community feeling like something is getting changed with WvW but is any of this actually going to be implemented?

We’re just spinning our wheels here, Anet isn’t going to implement the massive shifts needed to bring WvW into balance. This same kitten has happened time and time again where they ask us to make a thread listing all the problems we feel need fixing with WvW and then they look at it nod their heads go “uh huh, we’re taking this into consideration” and leave to work on how to implement more useless PvE stuff into WvW like the failure that EotM was.

Please don’t delete my post Anet, rather, prove me wrong. Show the WvW community that you are actually paying attention to it.

Making new WvWvW maps should not be high priority. EotM and the borderland changes were both failures, as I have illustrated in my previous posts in other threads. They are gimmicks, which look shiny and nice to some players at first, but do not hold long-term interests, unless you slap better rewards and achievement points to them (with that method you can make any fail map design popular).

Instead of building on the solid success of the original maps, EotM map took a completely different direction. EotM is a pve map, with spvp-alike look & feel, which sold to us as a WvWvW map. It seems as if Arenanet ignored all the good suggestions and took the worst ideas and put them together. From tactical and strategical point of view EotM is horrible. Nightmare for roamers. It just one big karma train, full of overpowered NPCs, very low quality fights and ledges and , where you can fall into nothingness.

The original WvWvW maps were much better and are still very good. People are not quitting WvWvW, because the maps are the same, but because the match ups are boring & repetitive and the game balance is so bad it makes me want to cry and there is way too much emphasis on making everything for casual gamers only. That is half of the top EU WvWvW guilds have more or less quit the game. They wanted hard core, very high skill level game, guild vs guild, exciting & even big open field fights, instead of fighting against the doors, arrowcarts and trebs. I would be really happy to see the original borderland maps back and the BL bloodlust completely removed from the game. The complete removal of the siege would probably also create the best week of WvWvW in this game. Siege = boring fights in the long run (my main character has lots of siege masteries, but was it fun today to sit on superior AC and press a few key presses to get loot bags = NO!)

The population imbalances and the commander system however should be top priorities. Here is my list:

1. Population imbalance (the current outnumbered “buff” is not doing much)
2. Better commander system e.g. commander tag visible only to your guild mates, different colors and modes (roaming, PuG etc) for commander tags, better commander UI.
3. Skill and profession balance for WvWvW as well (it is obvious that certain professions, skills, consumables are overpowered and have been abused since Autumn 2012, still no developer reply!)
4. Better tools to build and cater communities (the matchup threads should be brought back. It would really be great for the leagues)
5. Better communication with the player base (example: over 100 threads about stealth being broken/overpowered in WvWvW. Thousands of posts and not a single developer comment or reply in over 18 months!)

Nonetheless, here my points I think that should get changed /added within WvW or should get fixed also to be more precise in certain cases:

3) Raise all of the current WvW Skill Lines to have 10 Tiers of Perks
4) Merge some of the current WvW Skills
5) Add Class Specific WvW Skill Lines to improve the Class Roles for WvW, like for example Infiltration, Sabotage and Assasination as 3 class specific WvW Skill Lines for the Thief.
6) Redesign the Borderland-Maps, if possible, merge them all together to 1 Big New Map. Use this bigger change, to add alot of the interestign new mechanics from EotM into that new Map.
If a Map Merge is impossible, that at least make each Borderland Map visually completely different and rename 2 of them so that all 3 Maps have own names and own different Mechanics that make each map in a different way interestign to play on then. Nothign is more boring and uncreative, than to have 3x the exact same map in a game.
7) Add more new WvW Skill lines, that are missing, like:

  • Medic Mastery
  • Golem Mastery
  • Trap Mastery
  • Honor
  • Stronghold Defender
  • Tower Defender
  • Supply Camp Defender
  • Shrine Guardian

That would be some good additions, especially the Defender’s are needed.
Defending in WvW must become alot more rewarding and effective.
Zergs have it currently way too easy to overwhelm places, because as Defender, you get way too easily killed from all the AoE Spam, that clutters the Defense Walls totally full, that you can’t move a sincle centimeter on the wall around, without running into countless AoE damage from foes, mostly Rangers using Barrage, Eles using Meteor Shower, Necros clutterign everythign full with Marks and Mesmers creating on the walls Phantasms.

The Defensive Siege Weapons like Cannons, Mortars, Oil Pots are way to weak.
Ballitas are a joke with their silly mechanic, that you need to have a foe in target to be even able to use them. Ballita Attacks must get changed all to be Ground Target Line of Sight-Skills, so that you can fire off the ballista everywhere you want without needing to have first a foe in target to be able to shoot at all.

8) Commanders need alot of improvements. Stats at different colored Commander Flags. Followed by special Commands that a Commander should have on the Battlefield. A Player Commander should give his Squad for example the same Health Buff, like running in near of a NPC Commander.

9) Add more objectives in the Maps, that are important to make Points, which you want to keep as long and as oftenly as possible, forcing the players to split up more into smaller groups, so that Zerging gets decreased and smaller roaming Squads are more common.
Just in brief, WvW needs more, than just Supply. Supply should be only one side of the medal, that worls should organize, that it doesn#t run out.
WvW just needs more strategetical important spots, that worlds want to conquer for their ressources that benefit your world.
The Shrines are a beginning, but one, that didn#t got implemented very well, due to the missing WvW Skill to make capturing Shrines more rewarding.
Currently peopel capture only Shrines, if their world has at least not the Minor Stat Buff, or when theres an achievement for capturin the shrines, otherwise, Shrines are always dead spots. This has to change, otherewise was the whole implementation of those shrines a complete waste of time.

10) Add more cool and interesting Siege Tools.
You find a Siege Golem boring? How about a Siege Tank with that you can drive through the scenery, while someone other uses the Board Cannon .
What about Asura technology based Siege Weapons, like Mega-Lasers or Thunder Cannons?

Bug list a guild member posted about a month ago.

When rooted in the air (I think) you can get stuck on the same spot, unable to move eventho you are not stunned/rooted. You have to /dance to get out of it.

The infinite dodge bug. I think it is when you try to pick up a fiery greatsword for example but someone was just a little bit faster than you. You have to faceplant/die/take siege to get rid of it

When getting knocked of siege equipment while turning it, it keeps turning in that direction without stopping eventho nobody is on it.

Mesmers can glitch through any gate in WvW

When entering a golem (alpha or omega) some boons get stripped off, this seems to happen randomly as sometimes my movement speed gets removed and sometimes it stays on

When manning siege (ACs), and you have free camera, you still get turned into the direction the siege is pointing at. It shouldn’t reset the camera.

When banner the lord right after the enemy caps the tower/keep, the circle stays up. It can immediately be recapped if the lord is lured out of the circle. Works everywhere except SM.

When autotargetting is disabled and your leaps go in the direction you are looking at if you don’t have a target. When you deselect a target and use a leapskill, you sometimes still jump backwards towards the deselected target. It even happens when targetting an allied player. Died 100x of times like this.

Righteous indignation on lords/supervisors sometimes stays on even after it ran out because of lag. Very annoying.

16- Dolyak position lag when he walks back towards the camp, have to use leap skills and a knockdown to reveal his true location.

17- Sometimes when you waypoint back you get a ‘falling’ effect making you unable to move. You have to waypoint again to get out of it.

18- Sometimes you stay stuck in combat way longer than normal. Sometimes up to 30s after your party members got out of it.

19- Sometimes when dropping a ram to close to a gate it gets ‘eaten’, your blue print disappears from inventory but does not appear on the ground.

20- Sometimes when throwing down a ram at a certain location close to the gate, it drops at point blank. Making it not hit the gate if build.

21- Inner watergate garrison, the ram weakness does not apply on the gate.

22- When capping woodhaven, some people get teleported underneath the lordsroom inside the structure straight after the cap. Unable to get out they have to port home. Might happen to other towers aswel, don’t know.

23- When running over the inner bridge at hills, you sometimes get teleported off (even when not in combat, very rare). This is caused by lag.

24- When running over the bridge of inner hills or dawns and the structure gets capped, you can get stuck inside the bridge. Again unable to get out.

25- Repairing walls/gates and getting stuck inside them

26- Running through gate or broken wall when structure gets capped and getting stuck inside those. Definitely not fun when someone leaves his golem inside the broken wall and it gets stuck inside the stairs

27- Coyotes sometimes don’t respawn on certain borders. Roamers use them to get stacks.

28- When taking down the east SM wall (I think it is that one) with catas, the health is sometimes completely gone and you get exp, but the wall is still there and you are unable to move through. Doesn’t always happen.

29- You can build siege on certain points inside the invulnerable zone. Especially a few at the citadel. People building trebs there that can barely be countered.

30- The invulnerable spot at the south-west supply camp, you drop down from the hill but still have 1 spot where you stay invulnerable.

31- When a camp flips and you are standing on the supply depot, you can get stuck inside the stack of supplies. You are unable to get out. I think you can get out when it gets emptied again.

32- Sometimes a stunbreaker that gives stability aswel does not break stuns. And sometimes you get stunned while having stability. Very rare bug, not sure what is causing it.

33- Random server crashes when you get booted back to the character select page. Often has nothing to do with your own internet (I checked for hick ups and such). No idea what is causing this either.

34- Sometimes you just drop dead, you are out of combat in open field nothing close and you die, no down state. Happened 2-3 times to me and know of few others to whom it happened aswel. Hasn’t happened in quite some time now so might be fixed.

35- When using a cannon, mostly backwards and you are shooting right over the ledge, you can often hit positions with the ‘1’ but not with the ‘2’ or ‘3’. Not sure if this is intended but if it is I think it is pretty weird.

36- You can get inside EVERY enemy spawn, even the citadel. You can’t kill anyone tho. This shouldn’t get fixed IMO. It is funny and allows some friendly teasing.

What I can come up with right now. There are more.

I’m a player who has spent 99% of his time in WvW since headstart, I play for Guild fights, and roaming, my opinions are nothing to do with the PPT meta game, i have very little interest in it and prefer to look for fights than capture an objective and defend it. At least until Coverage is less dependant on winning a match up, and there really are proper rewards to winning a match up.

1. You say is that WvW has progression, I’d say it really doesn’t, WxP aside it’s pretty much just a fighting ground for players and guilds. There is really no point in getting more than 300? ranks to get Guard buffs, rest is pretty much fluff, which is cool but it’d be nice to see us gain Dungeon and Cultural Armour like you can from the other two Game Modes (SPvP and PvE) As a player who mainly spends his time in WvW when online, doing guild runs or roaming, I find i’m missing out on some really cool skins because i enjoy one game type over the over, Not saying all armour skins should be open to all game types, it’d be nice to have certain skins to show off hitting a really high World Rank or SPvP rank ect. But WvW is the only game type that really doesn’t reward this (Apart from those terrible Blue/Green ones with BoH).

2. WvW Achievements, Oh boy.. Come on.. How long have people gone on about this. It needs reworking, 250k kills is the only one achievable, it rewards a title and 20(?) AP, what takes a lot of hard work, grinding and dedication to the game to get. Something needs to change, and actually tracking kills after you hit 250k mark would be pretty cool as well.

3. Zergs are encouraged with the 5 cap AoE limit, I understand it’s in place to stop skill lag, but it also encourages Zerg Mentality. To the point you see servers running in a massive blob of 80+, Zerg Happens and in some cases Guilds organised enough can destroy them with the right numbers. Some way of deterring people to zerg up under one commander and atually split up into more smaller sized portion of players will not only improve stability on the server but make quality of fights more interesting. Sadly i don’t have an answer for this, but this should be something Anet should be looking at.

4. Critical Damage Nerf, It’s sad that such a nerf has to be put in place in WvW, Roaming was already heavily condi based, and it’s only going to get more this way with the latest patch.

yeah. we’ve definitely played this game before. there were multiple CDI threads. the first was “what’s WvW’s biggest problem” then the next one revolved around the most given answer of population imbalance. the one after focused on the seconds most given answer in the first thread, commander and squad functionality.

the result of the population imbalance was that they ignored all of the pages of answers from the community, and actively took steps to make superstacking worse. the result of the commander and squad thread was perfectly designed system hand delivered to them by the community, which we’ve never even heard a peep about.

i agree with you 100% that continuing to ask questions they’ve been given the answers to countless times isn’t going to do anything. it’s a thinly veiled attempt to pacify the playerbase, even though a large number of the players are well beyond the point where pacification is possible.

they asked their questions, they got their answers. if they haven’t started working on that already, this ship is going to go down faster than the TORtanic. the fact that they’re still asking the same questions after all these months must be their way of saying “women and children first.”
