I think it is reasonable to expect that just as PvE players can get “max gear” through PvE, WvW players should be able to get “max gear” through WvW.

But all I’ve found is a vague statement that there will eventually be multiple paths to get Ascended gear. That could mean anything. For example, World of Warcraft has multiple paths to get gear… and it also has a fairly rigid system of first- and second-class citizens. There are better/faster paths (raiding & arenas reward tier N) and worse/slower paths (heroics & battlegrounds reward tier N-1).

I love Guild Wars 2, but my long-term interest in the game is strictly for the WvW.

So, my question:
When and how will Ascended gear be available through WvW play?

they never promised an actual date that they will address this issue, kind of like how they play the “we never said we will not have vertical progression gear grind” for the game. My point is, enjoy the game while you can, and dont believe in anything they say until they actually make it happen.

I’m sure it’ll be awhile. Honestly, they’ve pretty much said they’re working on everything. I’m betting there’ll be a new currency for the ascended rings in WvW.

I think the whole ascended gear idea is kittening stupid. It’s a slippery slope that will end badly.

Just what we need a new currency for more grind to get

I’ll bet a dollar to a donut that the infusions available from WvW will incorporate some type of Resilience mechanic like WoW or Expertise mechanic from SWTOR

It’s the logical step they will take WvW progression, every other MMO has and seems they have decided to incorporate some ideas from that Panda game

And every other game that has tried to copy that panda game has failed to maintain even a fraction of the player base WOW has. It’s a bad idea. Anet is on thin ice with this vertical progression BS.

Also PVE oriented people have to spend long time in WvW even if they dont care about WvW just to get 500 badges for their legendary. last time a mentioned this issue, some “wise” people told me (dont have your legendary – problem solved), and u know what i did? I grind those 500 badges. And the same go to PVP oriented playes. Sometimes life doesnt go your way but if u wanna have best in slot items u have to do things that you consider boring just to get gear u want.

I think they have already fallen through. That warm sensation washing over them is the final stages of hypothermia.

42k karma is good price for ascended gear piece. I don’t see why those should cost more than exotics.

Legendary gear is not best in slot, Ascended is best in slot. You didn’t ‘have to’ grind those badges for best in slot gear, you simply wanted a Legendary weapon to show off, which is cool, but not having it would not have set you back at all and so you really didn’t have to do any pvp. In fact, you don’t have to do much if any pvp in W3 for those badges anyway, half of /team and /map chat is full of people asking for portals to the top of jumping puzzles or that someone was a big meany and hit them while they were up there so they need the whole server to protect them.

Don’t try to make it sound like a balanced trade off, you can get everything and the best through dungeons and pve farming. You will not get everything and the best through W3 or pvp.

they got jumping puzle in wvw, where they can skip fight if they want to pure pve in WvWvW,
What option WvW players got atm ? no crafting not tradeble / black lion company

Yep I agree, and I hope they don’t make it some ridiculous badge price like the invader gear, which is clearly out of whack.

Legendaries are purely cosmetic (therefore not relevant to concerns about power creep and “falling behind,”), and as you say, they require a long grind in EVERY aspect of the game (therefore not a good example of favoritism towards one playstyle, imo).

I have an icky feeling that will be the case as well as its an altogether common MMO thing to introduce “another currency” every time they add something new and god only knows we’ve got enough in GW2 already!

The more elegant solution would be to have a currency convertor, so if Bob the Pvemonkey wants to swap me some of his magic dungeon balls for some of my badges or Karma, he can.
