Two weeks ago life was beautiful on Aurora glade, we had just beaten Fort Ranik & Jade Sea into oblivion by getting 300k points in the fight. Everyone was psyched and revving up for the next fight, our morale was very high. We were preparing for a fight against Gunnars hold & Blacktide.

Then we our fall from grace started: we couldn’t keep up with them, either by losing due to nightcapping or just getting outmatched by the better players. We lost the match up and had to fight Fort Ranik & Jade Sea last week again. However something changed on our server although we started the fight in first place for the first days. After that we just started getting overrun regularly, especially at night since we are lacking a big night crew. We started lagging behind Jade Sea, and Fort Ranik was coming back hard by putting up an amazing comeback. Eventually we lost out by 40k points behind Fort Ranik, and we were in last place again…

This week we are up against Miller’s sound and Ring of Fire. RoF seems to be in a similar case like us, constantly outnumbered and just getting overrun at night by Miller’s sound who seems to have a big dedicated crew going both during the day and night (GMT+1 time).
Seems to me we are in downward spiral spinning towards the end of the table, this is really annoying for people who keep bringing the fight and want to defend but we just lose out due to circumstances beyond our control.

So what happened Aurora glade, you used to be so cool.

[I know the free transfer thing is a big issue here, but if this keeps up people will just keep transferring to other more winning servers. If they start losing, they go to another bigger server, etc … Until all the small ones are at the bottom, with absolutely zero chance of ever going back to the top. WvW is caught in a vicious circle]

Yeah free transfers have been killing this server over the past few weeks. It’s ridiculous to see that 1 week ago we were winning during the weekend, and now we are outmanned on almost every maps on a saturday afternoon against a lower ranked server.

Having the outmanned buff on a saturday afternoon is just a sign that the whole server is going down the drain. And people don’t care anymore about WvW.

I would still like to thank the remaining guilds on our server for putting up a fight

Aurora felt quite strong in September. Then something happened around two weeks ago. I guess some WvW guilds jumped on the bandwagon and transfered to top ranked servers and they were followed by sheep. Right now you can get into EB in prime time without queue! And its not like its just people playing less overall since we do get the outmanned buff quite frequently. I mean, being outmanned at 8 PM on the EB just speaks for itself. I also dont see any of the good active commanders from September. I guess they transfered as well. During the night its just total shame. I went EB once around 3 AM. We had like 10 people chilling AFK at spawn point and that was all. Anyway, I dont plan to leave. If the ship is sinking, only rats jumps away first. Even if we will fall to the very last place in the table, perhaps it will be possible to build something from there. It is just shame how free transfers are affecting some servers WvW communities. I really hope AN will turn this thing off asap. And I mean like NOW.

I have only been playing the game a short amount of time but even I have seen a big hit in numbers over the last 2 weeks.
Transferring sure ain’t helping but I guess we will find our place at some point then we will have to rebuild from there.

Aurora glade is death

Well, tougher opponents can be considered as a source of fun.

Yesterday the very disciplined Germans had all the maps locked down, and as a consequence, we were running around instead of beating on gates.

I have to say, as a former Eve player, the difference was like stopping boring POS warfare, where you shoot a space station for hours and hours while watching porn and drinking or moving to fast small gang stuff. Night and day and I know which I like better.

Very sad that so many jumped ship, we were in a nice position, mid table. First week we lose a match and so many couldn’t take it. Now we wil be lucky to not be in the bottom ranks within a month given we have very few large organised WvW guilds left.

Sadly this week hitting Millers, which has just had a massive new influx of players means we are totally outmatched. So another wasted week of WvW

Free transfers should be switched off. Just as it may be helping some of the big servers get rid of players, it is decimating the smaller servers, and ruining communities we are trying to build.

On the plus side, no queue for most maps even during peaks.

WTB a few more WvW guilds to help us out.

I have to say, I’ve enjoyed WvW more since Millers showed up.

Challenging opponents, good fights, especially the small gang stuff, good for them.

I have to say, seing very few to no ppl in Orr zones and a constant outnumbered buff in WvW isn’t quite what i expected when joiing Aurora Glade. Unfortunately free transfers, which were tehre to alow ppl to play with their friends until guesting made it in, has kinda taken a turn for the worse as teh server slowly drains dry

Real shame indeed. I was really enjoying the last matchups. Even last weeks which we lost it was relatively close as WvWvW goes (at one point all 3 servers within 15k points from 1st to last, when we were around 100k pts). Now this. I haven’t logged on and seen Millers on less than 450 pts/15mins.

The only thing I’ve managed to do at some times is hang around killing Dolyaks. Which is cool but i’d like to take a tower sometimes.

yeah i play in dragon brand , two weeks ago we experianced the same thing. we basically had the win in the bag! lead by 100k and blackgate got a mass transfer of some EU guilds and bam in 2 days we lost by 100k. the free transfers are killing this game. what was once alot of fun , has become a miserable experiance when i go out to wvw.

i say if people want to transfer because they are on a crappy server, fine! a one time transfer after that you have to start over! or pay for it. i love this game but if things dont change im afraid i will have to move on. im already part of 2 dead guilds and not sure the guild im in is going to make it. im not going to be a part of the problem and just abandon my server, but it needs to stop before the lower servers are just to horrible to play on.

That’s what i’m afraid of really. Do I jump ship and hope another server doesn’t get abandoned? Stick it out and pray by the time server transfers cost, that my server has a decent community? This is the trouble of free transfers at the moment.

WvW is my favourite thing in the game at the moment. So it’s a big deal when we have a single supply camp on the whole map and there’s no other players to help come back. I don’t want to be locked into a poor wvw server but I don’t want to be a ship jumper and just follow people who jump. Because you just know if it stays as it is, the server you hop to will empty out sooner or later due to world hoppers.

was playing WvW yesterday, kinda new to this gamemode, we got overrun a lot by Miller’s Sound, maybe try promoting WvW more on your server, I sure am gonna try that..

I’m the leader of a rather small guild (Thievery Corporation [iSpy]) myself, and just a few days ago the topic “should we change the server?” came up. I hate how WvW works atm. It’s hopeless, and it’s frustrating to hop on on Saturday morning, eager to play the new match, just to see you’re 30,000 points behind the winning server.
Nevertheless, we decided to stick with it. I don’t want to sound hostile, but I am really kitten by all those… cowards just fleeing the server because some other server is better. I don’t see why next to nobody feels like actually fighting for a better WvW community. I don’t see why still so many people don’t use team and/or map chat.

Just hopping on another server won’t solve this problem. We have to stick with Aurora Glade, and we have to work on it and on the members’ attitudes. We need communication.
I just wanted to point out that there is an Aurora Glade community (www.auroraglade.com) slowly establishing. We are currently working on a new website because the old one sucks big time; in about a month’s time we will be done. Also everyone who wants to help build the new website is more than welcome (currently we’re 3-4 people working on it).
I’d like everybody to consider joining the website… we need a more stable community. I believe most players don’t use the chat in WvW because they don’t know how to, or because they don’t dare to or simply because they don’t know how important communicating is. Because they don’t think they can make a difference… but wow, I can’t remember how often that ONE player sticking with a just conquered keep/tower saved it from being retaken a few minutes after because he told everyone when it was being attacked.

I just hope more guilds will stick to Aurora Glade, like Unity and Thievery Corporation do. This ship is not sinking yet…

It is a real shame, we were going strong right up until the blacktide match-up, we’d pretty much decimated the French servers right before that but then it just went downhill from there.
Me and a few guildies were talking about switching servers but realised that wouldn’t really help the problem, it would just mean Aurora would be losing yet more people.

Then we were talking about how other servers have lots of great guilds running in their matches and we could do with some, the only time we seem to get major guilds running for us is when we’re winning and they come in and spam chat with “X guild is doing this… X guild is doing that” as if they want the glory for everything but then suddenly vanish when we’re losing!
There’s only been a few constant guilds helping out in WvW for us, so thanks guys for not jumping ship too when things go bad!

As soon as free transfers stop and the tiers even out, I.E, servers such as Millers that have far greater numbers will go up and be matched against other high pop/high skilled servers and we’ll be matched up against other under-dogs that are smaller but have a lot of fight in them! Lets just hope its sooner rather than later before all of our players get sick of the scores and leave us!

I must say though, the other day when RoF we’re just portaling us to death every time we tried to move was rather amusing, never seen such organisation from any of our other matches so we might learn some tactics from these better servers!

The change in population and lack of dedicated WvW guilds on AG has been noticeable these past two weeks. Many have ‘jumped ship’ to join larger, more successful servers and our WvW crew has been left wanting. I like it no more than anyone else, but…

…the server will settle, those who remain will forge bonds with others on the field, those with more WvW experience will pass on the tactics to the less experienced, and we will be matched with servers of similar peak hours and similar populations.

Yes, it’s nice to run with the horde and obliterate all that stands in your path, it’s certainly easy. But the adrenaline also surges when a few trusty friends capture camps way behind enemy lines, hunt down dolyak slaying thief packs or provide that flank from behind.

Take heart! Good battles can be had with any server, with the right attitude, a general willingness to pay for upgrades and siege plans, and team communication. We may not end up on the top of the list, but we CAN learn to adapt our strategy to match our opponents strength, and we CAN excel against servers that match us in pop and timezone.

Let’s stay the course and show them what we’re made of!

Most people I know left because they got fed up of a particular russian AGC wannabe leader with his personal Blacktide vendetta.

This guy single handedly ruined 2 Borderlands because no matter the situation, he would only lead attacks on Blacktide because he wanted to personally crush them and whine endlessly whenever we didn’t agree with him. He kitten off half the borderlands.

That and the fact Aurora Glade has always been a kitteny WvW server ever since the weekly match up started. That server only strong presence was 6-8pm CET. Before and after, almost noone was in WvW.

Great post, that’s how I feel. We will find out rightful place soon then build from stronger foundations.

Aurora Glade was good and fun server for wvw but after a defeat against Blacktide and Gunnars people just lost morale and left to other servers, why? Well some of them say that AG is dead in wvw…Well I disagree with that, there are many guilds who wont give up their home (Unity, CROW, iSpy, FURY, etc), I salute to those guilds and I hope that we will bring this server to the place it deserves

I can only echo what some other people have already written:

Yes, the situation right now is bad and WvW is on the brink of being unplayable. BUT: the worst thing to do now would be to move to another server. Instead, we should focus on why it is that things don’t work out right now and actively try to strengthen our server and its community.
I can again only urge people to head over to www.auroraglade.com (even though it isn’t quite finished yet) and help us create a strong community. Only then can we start to coordinate our WvW tactics and hopefully catch up to the other servers instead of getting stomped and leaving frustrated.

Your attitude is what drives people away from the server. It’s not that it’s empty – it’s that people SAY it’s empty, which leads to a large amount of players moving to other servers, which then again actually turns the rumor into reality. “Self-fulfilling prophecy” and all that.

One thing that people seem to forget, though, is: server changing goes both ways. Sure, there won’t be a HUGE number of people or guilds coming to AG, but some of them will. There are even guilds out there actively looking for a server such as ours to build their community there. So not all hope is lost. People will come to us just as others go to other servers.

I moved from AG two weeks ago, just to check how is it like on another server, I was sure it would be quite the same so I can say to my friends “see, AG is quite nice, let’s go back”. We moved two brackets DOWN to less populated, “worse” server.
And I’m sorry but I don’t want to go back to AG. Here there are a few guilds that want to win maps, not interested in karma or badge farm, just to own anything they can in prime time and defend it.
On AG my guild were following a commander in EB one day, we were in zerg like 40+ running from supply camp to tower. Some typed on map that our Stonemist is under attack. Our commander responded: ‘let them have it, we will take it later so we’ll get more karma’. We didn’t take it back, commander left, we lost. Our morale broke down that day, we decided to try another server.

It’s the same with Gunnar’s Hold, really. We started off really strong, but after a few defeats, we saw some of the larger guilds jumping ship to more winning servers and blaming their desicion on “quality of pugs” amongst other things, but all in all, they left because we don’t have a strong night team, and despite holding most of the maps during prime time, we would see it all lost during the night, and having to hammer our heads against whole maps with everything reinforced. It’s a little disheartening, sure, but I’d rather be there and being an underdog than run and join the winning side.

Luckily, there’ still some great guilds on Gunnars that have decided to stay and try and fight our way back, and we’ve gotten quite a good community, complete with mumble server, weekly strategy meetings, dedicated website and so on.

But you see, that’s a whole different problem. It isn’t the server’s fault when there’s an idiotic commander running around. AND in my opinion every player should be encouraged to speak up when a commander issues an obviously lunatic command. That isn’t a problem that’s specific to AG, it happens on every server: commanders aren’t chosen by merit, but by who farmed the most money to get there. So, at least right now, the commander title has to be taken with a good amount of salt and everyone should use his or her own brain when playing WvW instead of blindly following.

Unity aint going anywhere anytime soon. The AG community has our support.

We have multiple WvW events running right through the week. Multiple WvW Leaders: Thuggery, Trip, Raest+Sklymarshall, etc.

We have daytime, primetime and even late late week night events running through to 4-6am in the morning. We also host open mic nights for those not in guild that want to tag along.

As a 4 yr old guild that has experienced many ups+downs in oPVP regards campaign/point systems/getting zerged/etc in previous mmo’s, 1 thing we have learnt is that a good fight(sword vs sword, not sword vs door) is where the fun is, that normally means being the underdog. AG in our opinion is the right place to be and as far as we concerned AG has alot of fight in her to give.

We run mainly comms so we dont always react to map chat but if you need help defending something reach out to us+if we can we will get to you. When we take objectives, we take it quick+quietly so we cant always let everyone know what we doing – just isnt time.

I haven’t really been active much the past few weeks and return to find Aurora Glade in the state it is now. What the hell happened? I’m not even sure, if I want to stay on the server now. It’s not just about WvW, even the PvE, which I primarily do, has gotten very empty.

If arenanet does not close free server transfers soon, it’s propably going to get worse.

We cant win anything with online like this. Not a primetime yet, but still, 2 borders and EB outmanned atm… No queues at all, anytime.
Sure, some guilds still on AG but this game need ZERG to show some results. Low online was our problem from start, now its not a problem – its our sentence.

Just want to point out some of the fun we had on the Aurora Glade map on Friday night and a big props to everyone involved as it was an epic 4? hours filled with nonstop action.

In summary : (apologies if I got this wrong it was all a bit hectic to say the least)
Our event started at 9pm, we were outnumbered and had only a supply camp to our north on our map.
We decided to go with the flow, I switch on commander as we need the help and kick off, two quick supply camps and a tower are taken.
A second tower is under-way when the first tower comes under attack. Its a race against time but we managed to cap the tower, portal and defend the second tower. Time for the garrison which weirdly falls fairly easily.
Then the orb gets taken, now I’m not sure what happened here.. it reset maybe or was bugged, we chase down the team taking it, think we have killed the carrier, cant find the orb or carrier! and spend a crazy 10 minutes panicking where it is only for it to reset.

that was the first 45 minutes…. it was non stop for 3.5 hours!

3 orb defenses… oh Jade Sea that Centaur camp was not the place to go with the orb carrier (squishy squishy tunnel exit)
1 epic garrison defense, throwing ourselves into the circle to stop it capping everyone on the map had though we lost the garrison at that point only to pull off some masterstroke of a rally (dont know how)

and then there was the lemming incident! (The less said about that the better)

There is still a great community on the AG server and most days whilst the underdogs we make some great achievements.

Miller’s Sound will know this because last night we managed to steal a tower right outside their garrison from right under their noses, even though we were outnumbered, they had three orbs of buffs, and the tower was fully upgraded.
(I would like to shout out to all the tag alongs we had with us last night, following my crazy back and forth to nab that tower, you guys were brilliant and thank you for sticking with it)

I’m commander of the biggest guild in RoF.
we are steamrolled this week, and many other wvwvw guilds are planning to transfer.
I would love to propouse to Aurora glasde’s WvWvW guild to transfer to our server (maybe not this week, but the next), so we can build up a better and competitive server.
We have no queue and a pretty decent organization between guilds, we just miss numbers.

My guild left at the weekend and we were active in WvW kicking butt and taking names. We laid siege to many keeps, garrisons and capturing orbs regularly (even doing the server reset raids late on fridays!). Anyway I would like to give the other point of view on all this so this post is balanced. We raided hard against Blacktide and Gunners hold and the French last week on our guild WvW nights with great success, once our server started to loose these matches people on AG just stopped logging in to WvW and this upset us. All we would hear in map chat is people complaining and quitting and there has always been very little good co-operation across the server in WvW. We started to find ourselves outnumbered in WvW on raid nights with no support from the fair whether gamers who had stopped playing because we were losing. The queues quickly vanished and we had the unmanned buff at 9pm at night! So don’t accuse all of us of not trying, we did not quit when it got tough, we got no support from others so we left. If people had stayed active and not quit we would still be there now, also Anet is partly responsible for the free transfers.

Before anybody says you left to a winning server! Wrong we went to losing server with a medium population, we went to Seafarer’s Rest. It has so far been a breath of fresh air, when we are losing like now nobody is complaining in map chat, nobody is quitting, there is good co-operation and team work between guilds who take WvW seriously and WvW has 4x the activity of AG even late at night. Not bad for a medium pop server hey. So yeah we only left because of a lack of WvW activity and not because we were losing, if things had stayed active in WvW we would have stayed for sure as we don’t quit. Active WvW is the most important thing to our guild and we were not getting it on AG.

Anyway I wish all who stay in AG the very best and I hope you turn things around, but if you are serious about WvW I don’t think it’s a good place. Good luck to the remaining few guilds we actually noticed in WvW that made an impact like UNITY and Golden Horde.

That wont happen, basically we had truce with your server and it was “broken” coz some mini zerg attacked your tower? I would never know about it if my friend didn’t told me, basically if you guys want our support and if you want some truce make it go public and that everyone knows and not just get angry coz some mini zerg attacked your tower

Guys. Yes. We are now very few people. Even Majority of them can not read chat. Seriously. 2 Germans with cannons poured all Zerg. People do not listen to the command. All experienced players have left and continue to leave. I play on Vabbi. when it rise, and i play on Vabbi when it falls. so. nothing will save Aurora glade. i was in Ruins of Surmia, it died ridiciously fast i moved to a good middle battled server which i tought to be a nice challenge and not OP winning one, i moved to Aurora Glade with my whole guild, and now we get owned there too O.o

Only way to lift the curse: stay with Aurora Glade and help us on our way to glory! You have to face your demons instead of running away.

Good to see people still in high spirits on our servers and still keep bringing the fight!

I hope we get a stable community going again so we can up our game, we seem to be improving a little against the very oiled machine called Miller’s Sound but are still behind RoF.

Thanks to all guilds (UNTY/FURY/Ispy/CROW/…) we keep setting up events on our maps and trying to go guerrilla as much as possible.
Hopefully we can keep improving and ArenaNet will realize something has to give so WvW can be fun for every server again.

Well, I did some research on the WvWvW match we’re in and came across some posts about Miller’s Sound that uses bots at night, that’s why their score is more than 150k above ours…

Can anyone tell me when we get a new match-up?

Think we have to be careful here, if someone has spent their money on a game I guess they should be allowed to play it as they wish.
I rather be playing with players with backbone than the hopers.
I played daoc for years and its all swings and aroundabout, you may be in a bottom server now but that server with work better an harder together to move up the leader board.

Think we have to be careful here, if someone has spent their money on a game I guess they should be allowed to play it as they wish.
I rather be playing with players with backbone than the hopers.
I played daoc for years and its all swings and aroundabout, you may be in a bottom server now but that server with work better an harder together to move up the leader board.

I’m honestly feeling bad for you guys and i’m quite expecting the same for our server if we continue winning until we face stronger (aka more players at all time) servers. At the moment we have quite a few players running around with low-level chars or even without any armor at all o.O Heck, we were even playing with fireworks on monday evening while fighting against RoF at their spawn.

But i fear many of these people (not the fireworkers, Maxtrum Amens is a good commander) will leave or at least lose their motivation when harder times are coming.

That said i faced some really good Aurora players so far and UNTY is sure capable of some crazy tactics (whole zerg + catapults camping in the tunnel shooting at the nearby tower) that drove me almost crazy. I remember that one engineer of yours that i just couldn’t win against no matter what (being lvl 80 myself and wearing all 80 exotic gear).

A shame to know that your server could be so much better if given more players. I honestly hope that you will find better suited opponents in future matchups.

Regarding bots, the only ones we had so far where stupid farming bots either in the lake or traveling between the middle keep and bay, mostly rangers spamming 1.

I may kindly please you to just beat them all until they won’t respawn anymore. I for myself would happily watch this without intervening…can’t speak for our others guys though.

Since Miller Sound is reading this post, can I ask to stop farming the waterfall at the Jumping Puzzle. It has been several days now that I see several players of Miller Sound there just killing the people who fall into the waterfall.

You are already winning by a billion points, there is no reason to turn to annoying and frankly childish tactics. I always try to avoid killing people in the JP, because it really should be a combat free zone in such an area, but it is not so at least have some respect for people who don’t want to fight in a jumping puzzle or at least not farm killed on it.
