In that case it’s stupid that Ele’s can avoid any damage with invulnerability, or move 2400 range near instantly, or heal from almost 0 to full also near instantly while Necro can’t do anything like that.

So necromancer have one nearly unique ability with their class mecanism, and it should be removed because other don’t have it?
What’s the meaning of it?
One of the only way a necromancer can run from a fight, is with this ability.

Actually, Necros have 2 ways to prevent fall deaths. DS and Spectral Walk. I’d gladly replace preventing fall damage for better stunbreaks, invulnerability, confusion, DPS, vigor, stability, stealth, combo finishers, minion AI……
I see it more as an interesting quirk of teleporting to learn. ( the guardian effect takes a little bit of good timing )
Either way it rarely has any utility other than to jump off fort walls and straight into melee range without stumbling

I propably should have phrased the question better as people seem to take it the wrong way. Personaly i love this kind of little quirks, and would love to see more of them. What i meant to do was to start a discussion if there should be more this kind of little tricks (for example allowing all teleport spells to be cast while in air)

You can’t prevent death with DS, if a fall would originally take all of your HP you will still die if you fall while using DS, the only time DS is used is if the fall won’t originally kill you, therefore it will take away the actual lost HP from DS from the fall.

You can’t prevent death with DS, if a fall would originally take all of your HP you will still die if you fall while using DS, the only time DS is used is if the fall won’t originally kill you, therefore it will take away the actual lost HP from DS from the fall.

You can most definately fall any height and survive with ds, tested it right now.

DS has its own “HP pool” which does not roll over to the necro’s actual hp pool.
if the necro is down to 1k hp and uses DS all the dmg taken until DS hp is gone will have 0 effect on the necro’s HP.

nope. I have activated it while on the cliff, in mid fall and a sec before I hit the ground.

Yes, there was even a thread in the necro forums about good uses of DS and we discussed how it’s good for taking fall damage but also discussed how it sucked it wouldn’t save your life if the fall was too high, that’s why I said it’s something new, most likely when the % from the soul reaping trait was adjusted.

About if it’s new, it was like this in the first betas, and then got removed before the game went live. Only some time ago it began to work again and I’m not even sure when it happened, myself I discovered it pretty late too.
Hard to say if intended or not or Arenanet is just undecided, but indeed with all the eles and mesmers and thieves running around I’m happy that necro has at least one troll ability :p

well so far I have not Died / taken dmg from falling while in DS
when i get home ill look for the tallest cliff and jump off it
Well it’s confirmed by phoebe that it’s new so yea only old school necros will remember dying in DS and being sad, on the other hand enjoy it because it sure will get nerfed. Anet loves necros, just like when they said going in lich form and losing your minions was a bug that they would fix, then another dev said that its working as intended.

I only found the skill/bug this week and ive jumped from heights that would certainly have killed me and survived.
Been using it on a daily basis since to take shortcuts.
Longest fall in the game I’ve found is from the vista in Mount Maelstrom. Hitting the lava will not save you…lol. Would love to see a video of that one.

One of the first things I tried when I got Mist Form… though “ooh, mist surely can’t take fall damage!”.

Warrior trait “Death from Above” gives you 50% fall damage. I use it all the time to take routes most others do not.
