I’ve gone through some of the forum posts seeing a lot of people upset about queues and server identity. I feel like the next week or 2 will be rough, but not impossible. There is currently a lot of hype for wvw and a lot of old guilds and individuals are waking up to jump on. This is partly the reason for queue. next is the fact that BG is a guild oriented server, and reset night is when we are ALL scheduled in. Later on in the week our coverage alternates as different guild groups take up different times, resulting in much shorter queues.

Having our server primarily worked off of guild composition, it allows us to organize wvw quite diversely. We would love to open a forum with the community of ET to organize this better.

A few have expressed that their identity as a server feels diminished. I beg to differ. BG would love your support and help,, it would be wonderful to hop onto ts together and communicate with all the new allies what our strategies are and how each of us play, and put it to best use.

This post is to work on making this work. Even if you dont believe it will, it seems like this is the way it is and having only negativity will only make things worse. If we be a little optimistic and communicate I think it can be a lot of fun We both have a lot to learn from eachother, in terms of strategy and play. T1 tactics are being mixed up with your tier tactics and the vice versa. We’ll need your help in combating both. So down below, post your concerns, your remarks, but always, post some kind of solution. BG is excited to work with you. So lets go ahead and get to it

Thankfully, you’ll have people to kill on every single night now, instead of just reset. There’s always something going on in T1!

The difficult piece of the puzzle for Anet would be managing the first couple weeks past a merge. Any huge patch or change will always bring in a huge influx of players for a short period, before things peter off into a more stable amount. They’re better off targeting towards that stable amount, rather than trying to adjust for the spike. As Moses said, the first couple weeks will be rough, but if we use that time in order to organize together, we should be able to come out on top, with everybody happy.

As Moses said, BG is guild-oriented, so those queues are from organized groups which were pre-planned to go on specific maps. If we organize together, that’s something actually manageable even in this first week where queues will be larger. Allowing both servers to plan for and accommodate ET groups that want to run.

We’re all excited to get to play with you guys, and that means we’re also willing to find ways to actually play with you guys, rather than stuffing you in a queue. We want you on maps, we want you to have fun. So lets work on ways to get that done!

What worries me is that I don’t think we’ll ever have that level of freedom under these beta matchups—EB, at least, will always be queued, and I’m not okay with that. The guild I’m in spent some time on a T4 server before moving back to ET, with constant EB queues being a major factor in the decision. And now here we are, forced into T1, unable to even play on what’s usually the guild’s best night of the week. (To be clear, I don’t blame BG for this, and I don’t think anyone on ET does. I blame Anet’s implementation of world linking.)

To the ET players and guilds. Welcome to Tier 1. I’ve already spoken with quite a few BG guilds about us being allies and I want you to know everyone is excited to be your allies. We all genuinely look forward to working together and playing as friends.

For those concerned with the queues, the last time we saw queues like that was opening night of WvW Seasons. Everyone is excited to be back in a revived WvW. Like the other said, we are a pretty organized server and use a large community teamspeak. We would really love to help you get into teamspeak so we can work together more closely.

I had some guildies go an hour without moving up that far last night—it’s only five minutes if 6 people leave in five minutes, and it’s usually a squad of 15-20 we’re trying to get in, so if there’s a queue at all at the start of the night, we’re probably not going to wait.

The queues will eventually go away as a result, but that won’t necessarily make them come back, and we’ll end up with underpopulated servers again. They need to find a way to fix this without driving people away with queues.

I would rather deal with queues than the dead game we’ve been having for months. My guild has had the most fun they’ve ever had in a long time, and we mostly look for fights.

@BeepBoopBop and @James Rustler you both show different perspectives. BeepBoopBop, we need to understand the mentality that our fellow t8 server has had. WvW was a game mechanic that they didnt want to queue for, they wanted to get in and play. James Rustler, for T1, wvw having queues meant that we had numbers, and if we had numbers, we were doing well. The mentality is different, and i know it sucks for you guys, like in all honesty, i can understand why you’re upset. But we have ways around it in T1. We coordinate around raid times. If you’re guild wishes to be on EBG at a raid time, let us know. we can’t control the pugs But im certain many guilds wouldn’t mind laying off of the EBG to give out some of the queue. I’m not meaning to make your stance seem negative, it is crumby to have this change all of a sudden. I’m just hoping that BG can help ET enjoy the best of the situation. It is a rather good one. these changes are exciting and new, and i think we can all agree that from the long standing lack of attention to wvw anet gave us, that any attention thus far is a step in the right direction.

tldr; BG sees queues as “yay we have people on, we kicken kitten , cant wait to get in”. ET sees queues as “i just wanted to get on and play, and now i have to wait”. Both are different perspectives to a similar problem, that we all just want to get on. But with some coordination, we can get that everyone gets their fair share of the maps. It’s easy with a server like BG because we are highly guild oriented.

I’d like to meet with ya’ll from ET to help talk some of these things out. We have a lot of very large groups and i’ve been looking up some of the guilds from ET. DoD looks like a kitten force. need to look up more of them.

We can handle their T1 blobs, if you can help us handle their alliances. Together we’ll have very interesting mixed fights as the BG force is busy keeping em distracted at garri, and lets say you go ahead and take all their towers, keeps, and 15-20+ force groups

good discussion so far. I’m going to ask though from both sides to not belittle peoples concerns. We are in the servers we are because we each saw queues, wvw, and ppt differently. BG is going to have an easier time accustoming to it because what is now is closer to what we like. our goal in BG should be to help ET enjoy the game we do and show them how badarse it is to be working with us towards kicking yb and jq

This thread is meant as an invitation to ET people to communicate with BG so we can do whatever we can to make the best of the server link between our server. Regretfully the link has happened and it is very unlikely it will change anytime soon so its best to cope with that reality

I reiterate complaining wont solve anything: BG guilds wont suddenly stop playing so you can have the maps to yourselves, the devs will not stop/change their tests because of the complaints of a few, and the blobs from enemy servers will not get smaller because you want 30 player fights. But through communication we can TRY to compromise what we can so that both the servers are comfortable.

What does this mean? if you have a 20 person guild that want to run on EBG at a certain number of hours during prime on a specific date then TELL US. If you do then we can work under that assumption, give you your space and have our guilds run some other map as to give your guild the best chance at all getting into the map on time. Granted that eventually one of BG’s guilds will want to play EBG and you will have to concede them the chance to run the map while you play another one.

If you dont tell us what you want then we cant take it into consideration and at that point its you will just be fighting a losing battle for spots on a map with guilds that can almost queue a map by themselves and are willing to wait in queue for a long time.

OK so my opinion may have changed from last night to today. I went to bed last night kittened that we were no longer ET and I woke up this morning feeling the same way, but… My eyes may have been open this morning when logging into Blackgate for the first time. Seeing some short of life on at 8am est was a nice sight, not only was there life but come to find out we have friends here, as well. Ran into a commander that has followed me on ET before, and that opened my eyes , hey there are cool people here. Not only do we get into TS and can hear the communications going back and fourth but the conversations are the same. The music bots are the same. So there is that sense of familiarity. Then another commander takes over for us and this guy is just as cool and welcomes us to Blackgate makes us feel at home, lets us know if we need anything just let him know. So far from what I have seen I am willing to give this a go. I just hope others feel the same way and we then can build that alliance between our two communities and make our self’s stronger in the end.

I’m glad this thread is here, and I certainly hope to see more discussion here and on our two community sites. I know a lot of folks were frustrated last night because of the queues, but today the community has been great. I ran with a couple different commanders and had a lot of fun, and for all of the ET roamers that might be worried: the roaming has actually been GREAT so far. Big thank you to all of the BG folks that have made us feel welcome in a very different WvW environment than we’re used to.

Let me preface this by saying I can’t speak for all of ET but I do believe it’s the general sentiment.

Yes, there was much frustration and salt yesterday night. Some of it had to do with queues but most of it was on other issues. We knew full well to expect queues, we just didn’t expect then to be that big and from what I’ve gathered it was unexpected for you guys as well. We were all ready to go and very excited at reset; you guys were just quicker on the draw and that’s fine haha. Seeing as we probably wouldn’t get the chance to play we decided to take our zerg to EotM where we ran into some BG that didn’t leave the best first impression but then again, being a frequent EotM myself I understand they do not represent BG.

Some of us stayed up very late and played heavily (I went to bed at 4am and got up at 7am so I could play with you guys again). I wanted to shave off that first impression and get to know you guys and see how you work. Some of our regular commanders and some irregulars, like me, had the chance to mingle and talk to you guys and I really liked what I saw. From what I can tell with the commanders I’ve followed, we seem to share similarities in style and strategy so I would guess it won’t be too hard to work together. I cannot deny that there are some concerns about playing with the top dogs but you have made us feel very welcome and I am grateful for it.

Blackgate seems to have the same “issues” with your matched server that we had with ours, so familiar ground for us … just bigger, much bigger haha The blob-y but rather squishy server, the pest guilds, etc. Sure, this is gonna require us to make changes to our group compositions and probably the builds we run as well but I’m sure we’ll manage (Those condi blobs doe O.O). I, for one, am liking what I’m seeing and all for building bridges and to the very least give it a chance! While being in your TS we’re already coming up with names for our alliance haha! (Black Eredon or Team TeBG anyone?)

While ET doesn’t bring a huge amount of people to the table (maybe ~50-60 regulars; as in people playing at least once or twice a week), we are persistent, determined and generally good at what we do and we had to. We are accustomed to being outnumbered; after all, it’s one of our motos … “Outnumbered? Yes please!” Most importantly, we are fun loving people who are looking for a fun time in WvW but winning is also nice! Most ET guilds have rallies on Mondays and Tuesdays nights (not counting reset night) and we also have monthly rally weeks where we focus on WvW. We also hold regular PvE, PvP and WvW events that we would be very happy to have you join!

As soon as we got into our map on reset everyone was wondering where the ET guys were and was very excited to finally play with new people.

ET we hope you guys will come out to play and hopefully we can build some strong friendships. I know the ques suck but its only really that bad on reset nights.
Please try and get in contact with us so we can communicate the problems we may have and get them sorted out.

For the record, we weren’t being intentionally antisocial. We tried to get in, queued for one of the BLs as soon as it opened, but I only know of one person that actually made it. I think most of us gave up around midnight.

Needless to say, everyone (that was talking on TS) is pretty mad at Anet for essentially robbing us of a reset night. That’s the best night down in T8, IMO. No queues at all, but plenty of people to kill. Think they need to go back to the drawing board and come up with a plan that accounts for population spikes without shutting people out.

Is that what you all were worried about? That in T8 reset night is the only alive night? Trust me bro, you’ll have people to kill all week. T1 weekdays will be better than your T8 reset.

I think you’ve misunderstood. Just trying to provide context into what we’re used to in T8 (and why a lot of us are there). We’re used to being able to move freely between maps, even at peak population. What worries me is that I don’t think we’ll ever have that level of freedom under these beta matchups—EB, at least, will always be queued, and I’m not okay with that. The guild I’m in spent some time on a T4 server before moving back to ET, with constant EB queues being a major factor in the decision. And now here we are, forced into T1, unable to even play on what’s usually the guild’s best night of the week. (To be clear, I don’t blame BG for this, and I don’t think anyone on ET does. I blame Anet’s implementation of world linking.)

I mean, EB queue is 11 in the middle of Saturday afternoon. If that’s really unbearable idk what to tell you. This is what WvW SHOULD look like when its not dead.

It was more than 150 when the guild wanted to get in. If it’s still queued when it isn’t even prime time, I don’t foresee us ever getting to play there, which is sad.

I don’t see how queues could ever be construed as a good thing. Queues mean people that want to play aren’t getting to play. That’s just going to drive them away.

And I and many others have said: last night was an anomaly.

An 11 queue and you can’t see yourselves playing there?? Dude that’s like 5 minutes get a grip. It is 6 right now.

Queues mean people are playing the game and the borderlands are actually inhabited.

If it’s 6 now, it’s going to be a lot more during prime time. I had some guildies go an hour without moving up that far last night—it’s only five minutes if 6 people leave in five minutes, and it’s usually a squad of 15-20 we’re trying to get in, so if there’s a queue at all at the start of the night, we’re probably not going to wait.

Queues mean people that want to play can’t. They’ll get frustrated and quit. The queues will eventually go away as a result, but that won’t necessarily make them come back, and we’ll end up with underpopulated servers again. They need to find a way to fix this without driving people away with queues.

I think we’re also dismissing that other map that aren’t EB also exist. None of them are queue’ed only EB. This is because everyone wants to go there including pugs, and well it seems ET too. Other maps are fine during the week unless one map gets pushed extremely hard.

Just want to chime in to say thanks BG for the welcome. Got a chance to join in on some of the action today and had a fun time. It certainly alleviated some of the frustration we all felt at reset. I’m sure we’ll adapt as things settle down. Looking forward to fighting with you all. Go Black Terrace!

Let me preface this by saying I can’t speak for all of ET but I do believe it’s the general sentiment.

Yes, there was much frustration and salt yesterday night. Some of it had to do with queues but most of it was on other issues. We knew full well to expect queues, we just didn’t expect then to be that big and from what I’ve gathered it was unexpected for you guys as well. We were all ready to go and very excited at reset; you guys were just quicker on the draw and that’s fine haha. Seeing as we probably wouldn’t get the chance to play we decided to take our zerg to EotM where we ran into some BG that didn’t leave the best first impression but then again, being a frequent EotM myself I understand they do not represent BG.

Some of us stayed up very late and played heavily (I went to bed at 4am and got up at 7am so I could play with you guys again). I wanted to shave off that first impression and get to know you guys and see how you work. Some of our regular commanders and some irregulars, like me, had the chance to mingle and talk to you guys and I really liked what I saw. Glad to see positive posts like yours and im glad you got positive experience out of it.

Something that I can tell you is that last night was a bit problematic because we didnt really get a chance to organize and count ET into our reset plan. Friday reset is the only day of the week were you see most of BG log in and play at the same time and as such we tend to mostly queue all maps. To best avoid guilds groups getting split off and giant queues we plan ahead of time so that we have the most even distribution possible and arent fighting for a spot on the map. Lets hope that next reset is much better as we will definitely take you guys into account.

For the rest of the week most of BG’s comunity play on alternating days usually our forces can maybe queue one BL map if we stack but rarely two so you should have more than enough chances to play. The one exception is EBG which always queues during NA prime and we have little control over since its so popular with random pugs so that is something people will have to regretfully deal with if they love EBG. That said the BL get plenty of action so even if you didnt get into EBG there alsmot always something to do.

It goes without question that if you want to organize something with BG you should go for it. Im sure that plenty of BG guilds/players out there would enjoy some PvE, GvG, PvP or WvW fun.

Working with ET the day after reset has been really good all around. After the initial sticker shock of reset night things have really gone very smoothly.

My guildies and I have been having a blast introducing ET to T1 fights and how to roll over some of those really big blobs YB throws at us.

To the ET players who always want to be on EB. The borderlands have been updated and improved immensely. Group up with a tag and come spend some time there. There is a LOT of fun to be had outside of EB.

Been on ET since launch and I usually WvW at oceanic times, Which for a while always meant a group of about 10 on a good night and sometimes just sitting in an enemies keep for 2 hours defending because we had no numbers to capture anything else. So I don’t really mind the larger groups. It’s just an adjustment for most of us.
Even though some of us still have vague memories of ET being in T2 and fighting in groups this size.

Haven’t had a single issue with any BG players so it’s been pretty enjoyable so far. Plus you all seem to tolerate my stupid/unfunny jokes in map chat so I can’t really complain.

I have now logged over 13 hours trying to get into WvW and still a no go for me. Granted that is not straight time, but i can only play at certain times and I will NOT enter borderlands as they are pathetic attempts at WvW maps (great if they were PvE though).

I hope you all have a great time and this isn’t a whine thread at all. I am glad ANET is trying something and we are (forcible) guests on your alls tier so I expected to wait a long time, but this has gone past ridiculous. Have fun and fight well. I am not going to be trying anymore to get in. Best wishes to both conjoined servers!!!

I should also mention, I got down to single digits two times:

First time: #3 in queue…5 seconds later 10 in queue, 1 minute later 34 in queue, within 5 minutes back to 73 in queue (after waiting 4 hours)

Second time: #7 in queue about 20 seconds later went to 24, within 3 minutes went back up to 53 in queue.

I shouldn’t be one to talk but don’t be such a negative Nelly. With the way people move around, WvWvW is already community. Competition has a more likely chance to thrive when the parties involved know each other. Emotional investment is something that MMOs need. This is what keeps people playing a game forever, not new skins tied to new currencies every two weeks. Personally speaking, the “Hey there’s SoAndSo, get em’!” and catching up/ friendly salt swapping via whisper moments were just too much fun.

Thanks brother My fries were a bit unsalted. I can comprehend your negativity and with the sarcasm “community”. But who knows, we may get paired up again. Or we’ll be facing the wonderful people of Et. Or rooting for them in a different matchup.

In the end it doesnt matter. Many of us at BG and ET aren’t just being friendly because we’re matched up. Although negativity wouldn’t have been productive either.

We, Both BG and ET, are this way because we’re in a game mode we love, and we’re having fun seeing all the new faces, strategies, and kittenery. So when our COMMUNITY does split, we’ll still be rocking and having a good time. Both servers learning more from eachother and becoming more competitive each day.

thats a fair concern. Eotm was supposed to be this very purpose. But can sometimes feel irrelevant. Maybe if they applied something more useful to the borderlands, instead of just supplies at spawn for your main bl, it would be more beneficial and interesting. like a tier specific eotm, where people could still fight eachother more, but instead of ppt, made like, free golems spawn, and dragon/turtle banners, or sped up keep upgrades or something.

I’m not sure Anet got the pairings right in T1 at least as population goes.

ET was consistently dominating T8 while IOJ was struggling to compete and AR was non-existent.

On the T1 side, if I read my boards right, both JQ and YB have been suffering losses to TC while BG has been more stable, so the pairing ended up being the highest population T1 with the highest population T8.

The T8 population is not affecting the matchup a whole lot but between the renewed interest in WvW and the relatively higher population of ET compared to other T8s, I can see it being a problem.

As an IOJer I have had few problems getting in as the week goes, with only an occasional queue on EB at night NA. JQ/IOJ seems generally outmanned but we have had tremendous fun this week defending against the BG hordes.

Glad you’ve been having fun. Its been great facing off against you all BG had been around 3rd or 2nd place most weeks for the upcoming weeks. BG is an odd creature. When theres somethign cool in wvw, we go all out. Otherwise, we lay somewhat dormant. I’d say the fights aren’t super far off. BG had a huge lead in the weekend as we always do. but have had help from ET to maintain ourselves throughout the week. I say the matchups were rather well made. Was jsut difficult to anticipate teh guild transfers off of YB.

Gilkin, Moses the Bear has a great guild to run with. I made it on the first night (or was it the second, I think I was the ONLY ET to make it in on Reset night though) and connected up with them. I had fun even though I am not partial to the Blob gaming that Anet has tossed me into (no Bears group was not the blob group)

Instead of being bitter because your server YB actually believed its own hype and thought pvdooring empty maps and running away from everyone all day somehow made you good players, and now that you actually have competition and cant handle it. Maybe you should worry more about yourself and try to reach out to those on AR that were linked to you and you know actually try to create a good environment based on communication and coordination instead of a hive mind dictatorship.
