If you didn’t know, ANet once upon a time had a design manifesto they tried to follow:

What an awesome design strategy, once I get my top set of armor I don’t have to worry about this grindy-grind any more and I can invest all my gold on siege and upgrades! Oh wait, kitten.

Well, we kinda knew that ANet was lying once ascended items had direct stat improvements. Fortunately, we can all allay our concerns that this is the last time it’ll happen, because it’s obviously not going to be!

“They are explicitly not promising that Ascended gear will be the last item tier—they don’t want to make more promises that they can be accused of breaking later (like is happening this time). They note that in GW1, new gear was added over time—not a better-statted tier, but bonus combinations that weren’t available at release, like the +energy on staves.”

So, basically, they broke their promise of not making a gear treadmill and they refuse to own up to it or admit that it won’t happen again. Oh well, at least all these crappy item updates will keep resetting my superior siege when a new build slaps us across the face (thanks for closing the thread where I documented that problem CC Eva, 3 builds later and it’s not fixed!)

Can we just switch WvW to preset rollouts like sPvP? WvW is not composed of PvE players, it’s composed of PvP players. Treat it accordingly.

I don’t think they were “lying”. I think they’ve fallen for the trap that many other MMO makers fall for… they’re listening to vocal minority…. hard core raiders who hit level 80 and complain that their’s no “end game”… when in fact post level 80 there is lots to do already.

But still, these people who can’t escape from the WoW mindset demand a gear grind and sadly ANet is listening.
