Badges, Needs a revamp?
Yeah I’ve started working on a ranged class myself for badge farming. Sometimes running face first into a zerg isn’t the logical thing to do. Even taking towers/keeps – the ranged classes can attack people on the walls all day long (and usually in my group they nab a few kills doing so) so that’s even more bags/badges.
The current system is very unfriendly towards melee IMO. I do okay, but it’s kind of silly at how much a buddy of mine gets in comparison because 9/10 times he just stands in one place while everyone beats my face in hah.
I agree. It’s not always possible to stop to get bags in a heated fight. At least make the badges an auto loot kind of thing like karma. There can still be minor loot in the bags though. Armor, weapons, junk, and salvage items that’s not as important, to me anyways. :P
Or if anything make it so badges are earned in much the same way as skill points at 80. Not to say that you’d have to be 80 for it to work. You’d have a separate exp bar in WvW that goes up based one what you’re doing in WvW (Sacking camps, towers, and garrisons as well as killing players). That way you get rewarded for participating in WvW even though you may not encounter many enemy players.

How bout getting them for completing events as that actually makes a difference in the score

@Valik, it can be hard to ascertain who made the most difference in an event. Remember there are those suffering in DEs who are not necessarily getting kills, but acting as support.
You can’t also start awarding badges just because you hit an enemy. Can you imagine the badges that someone can get for a single AOE shot on a zerg? No effort required.
The solution, I think, will be a bit more complicated… I think that when they solve it for DEs they can solve it for PvP. That is, support players can get just as much contribution (towards medals or badges) as the direct damage players. What that solution is, I am unsure of, right now.
I was saying it should just be a flat rate per event as it is with karma and money. Or perhaps another idea that I just had. Use a system like sPvP. U get so many point per whatever u happen to do. Just a rough outline but perhaps like this:
1 point per kill
1 point per rez of allies
5 points per camp captured of defended
10 points per fort cap or defend
20-25 per keep
30-35 for sm
Perhaps the kills should have “splash” meaning if u r in the area or maybe if u either tagged an ally with a heal or something along those lines. The splash system would take some work but it’s an idea
The points would be used like badges. Of course the amount to buy stuff would have to be worked out and probably tweaked over time

But then they may as well just use karma as currency. The issue to me is the drop rate compared to the prices of items that can be bought with badges its way out of whack, if they reduced those prices to match the drop rate it would be fine.
