Badges of Honor, I hate you.
Worse than that, is the fact that I loot a badge of honor every 50 enemies killed.
Yeah, I’d have to agree that hitting “F” when I’m trying NOT TO DIE in a crazy fight isn’t exactly high on my priority list. I’m sure that every single loot bag that I haven’t grabbed was full of exotics.

I hate the randomness to receiving badges – you should receive a badge per kill imo.
80 Ranger (3), 80 Warrior (3), 80 Thief (3)

Why badges aren’t simply a different currency for your character, like karma, is beyond me. Such a simple fix to the whole thing. Not complicated.
Make siege equipment bind on account while you’re at it.

It would be nice if auto loot actually met auto loot. In other words, if you enable this option you should auto loot the items and automatically deposit to your bags and not still have to press F to pick up the items, if you can even find where they were actually dropped. If no room is available then it should alert you that it cannot auto loot because inventory is full.
As far as badge drops, it doesnt appear to be 100% for a solo kill of an enemy player , but it seems the more damage one person did to another player the higher the chance of a drop. If you just joined in late to kill someone it seems the chance of getting a badge drop is very low. At least that is what it seems for me, because I have no problem getting badges for my main class. The only issue for me is sometimes I leave them behind.

The loot bags are (were?) a temporary fix from beta, when you’d actually have to loot the corpses like in the PvE world.
Apparently there is some major design issue with the game engine that prevents the sort of auto-loot function everyone (including the devs who commented on this during beta) would like to see.
I’d like to think they are still working on this, but I’d rather the culling issue be fixed, if it’s the same engine developers who need to work on both.
Be at least a bit nicer if the bags had a larger area to interact with. You have to be nearly on top of them to pick them up.
It sucks that people who only go into WvW to do the jumping puzzle but not fight get more badges of honor than the people who fight but don’t do the jumping puzzle.
I hate WvW loots because if you are a support guardian, you never drop anything ! While your walls, boosts, hammer ring, sanctuary and heals help your party more than anything else, thieves and warriors with there huge burst, even with low skill, drop tons of them..
They jump into the fight, send all there area skills randomly, while you, guardians, are doing your best to protect everyone.
And if you choose to be a damage dealer guardian, you’re anyway doing not enough damage to claim any loot. You have to be the first to engage to hope get some, but you’re too slow.
Please, make badges a currency. Give badges directly in your bag. And give badge rewards when you are upgrading a keep, and give some to supports too. If ennemies are blocked by my wall, I should have a probability to get a reward. If I give mass heals to my allies, I should too. Etc. Then, even with the same probability as now we’ll all get more badges. The gameplay will only be improved.
Didn’t you guys know they changed the name for badges to “spike” and it has a little claw picture, cause every hour of wvw I play I pick up like 500 of those -_-
You do not get badges of honor from doing WvW.
You get them from doing the jumping puzzle. L2 jump or L2 use a mesmer portal.
I REALLY wish the opposite was the case… but this is pretty much how it is : /

nothing bad getting them from puzzle it takes around 10 minutes once you get into it
it’s just that badges are useless, you get few silver for buying sieges easier and you get money also in pve, paying 10 badges for pretty often used siege weapon seems pretty expensive also. and gear you get is not useful for most classes. i am surprised anet has done absolutely nothing about it even if the problem has been known since launch.
Jumping puzzles + casual WvW and im on 745 badges (saving up for Ascended stuff) and i’ve easily gone through 10k badges on siege equipment, really early game invaders gear and my legendary.
I think the RNG is just poor for some people, because i’ve never had an issue with badges or obtaining blueprints from kills.

ive tried necro/warrior/guardian been zerging and soloing and small group. amount of badges stay all same it’s less than 10 badges/hour average. and afaik that’s what others get too in average. Generally I get 40 badges a day from fighting actively around 6 hours a day. A good portion comes from supervisors and keep lords, they sometimes drop a badge or two. Not counting in puzzles there. An odd blueprint drop maybe once a day from npc.
I have 1,100 Badges of Honor. I loot mine, I just have ZERO use for them.
- No reason to purchase PVP gear, just buy them from the trade broker.
- I don’t use them on siege weapons, because others lay them down before me.

I have never had an issue with badges. From my experience, being in a zerg = very few loot bags = very few badges. Being in a smaller group = a loot bag for every kill = lots of badges.
Problem is hanging around in a blob.

Playing as a support build yields significantly less loot bags then a dps build. I know that’s the way its supposed to be but it takes some of the fun out of wvw when your team mates are getting all the loot and healers get jack.
This game has no monthly subscriptions. So when you pay peanuts, you get monkeys, they said.
They are working on auto-loot but have said before that it’s technically very hard.
Let ’em fix culling first, would be nice allready.

It’s technically difficult to LOOT the bags automatically.
What they should be doing is granting a certain amount periodically.
So for instance, have a permanent kill quest, where you get rewarded in badges every 10 or 50 or 100 kills. No looting involved.

The other annoying part is trying to loot when a lot of enemies around you are downed. It always shows “FINISH”.
And because of that stupid bug where you often can’t cancel a stomp/build/revive/repair/etc I don’t want to press F anywhere near enemies because I’m afraid I’ll get bugged again and die.
Seriously, that bug needs fixing. I don’t know how often I’ve died because I was reviving an ally, then tried to dodge away when someone attacked me and my character just wouldn’t stop reviving until it was downed.
And often enough I can’t go back to loot the bags because I have to stick with the commander (or I’ll die) or because it’s somewhere I can’t get back to easily.
But honestly the badges are useless to me. I have over 2000 of them in my bank doing nothing. Might as well just throw them away

True that they should remove the Jumping Puzzle tokens. Let them earn the legendary by actually doing WvW and not having some mesmer port them to the top once a day

Anet had to make something to make people angry. Force them to have to have badges of honor than make system that doesn’t guarantee anything from your work.
1. First to hit and constantly hit guild keep lord, you still not guarantee badges when you should.
2. I always hear the myth its 1/8 kills you get badges. Sorry but I killed 20 people some times and never see 1 badge. The other myth it had to do with your damage on oppenent. I remember hitting one person only once and got badge with my number 1 skill so that goes out the window.
3. Drops off opponents in wvw is dumb sometimes. Why the hell do I get so much junk drops like talons off of players seriously arenanet?
4. Anet forces people instead of focusing on wvw in wvw they have to seek out jumping puzzles instead of defending keeps to get badges. How about rewarding defending keeps when killing folks and get 2-3 badges from kills when defending? How about that reward and so people will feel good to defend keeps.
loot bags, they tend to acrue when you are manning a siege engine, giving you the choice of manning your post or getting ze lootz.
I confess, once I see five or more shiny loot bags I have been known to leave my post momentarily :-p
doesnt take long happily, but yeah, missing loot isnt fun, auto loot would help.
I’d rather we get an AoE loot option, where you just press F once and it scoops up all the spikes and blue cabalist armor (<<) that drops in the area. Oh, and badges, I guess. Wouldn’t need to run around pressing F everywhere. It’s also hard to collect when you’re dead, obviously, tho Eles can activate their mist form downed skill to collect any bags that are sitting around before they really die >> <_<
I agree that the PvE tourists hitting up the puzzle once a day shouldn’t be rewarded with badges. I know they’re working on progression for Feb, so just… idk, tie the amount of badges for the JP to your corresponding WvW progression. 1 badge for people who just take a mesmer in with them and go back to Orr, progressing up from there. If we have to kill players for those kitten things, they should as well. Plus, the crying would be glorious.

oh there’s also this funny party system which gives you more contribution to damage as long as you sort of hit enemy like once or so i guess, just if you are in party.
leaves lone ppl pretty cold with loot especially with no mf gear.

I don’t think there’s any real need for party system in wvw except chatting with ppl maybe. Commanders only need ppl to join squad, not party, to see supplies.
I spend my badges on siege. As other have stated the armor and weapons are all but worthless. I would love to see that change. We get enough PvE in WvW as it is. I refuse to run PvE dungeons to get gear to PvP with.
We are each more likely to gain badges when we contribute more to the fight. Unfortunately healing and other support functions do not seem to count for much (if anything) in the calculation. Camp, Tower, Keep, and Castle bosses also drop badges. I think 100% as anytime i’ve soloed these i’ve gotten a badge or two.

The number of times I’ve been dropped with a loot bag right next to my carcass.
The number of times I’ve missed bags in a highly mobile melee.
The number of consecutive loot bags without a single badge.
The number of times I’ve been running useful tasks in wvw that don’t involve murder (guerilla flipping suppy camps, running supply, buidling, repairing, reviving allies, etc) and not being rewarded in any way at all.
I think the reward systems in wvw needs to be addressed in some way, especially in regard to combat vs support.
I came here to post a very similar topic but thankfully found this one. I too have an issue with the current reward system in WvW, that being Badges of Honor. I don’t do WvW much because of how little I get in return for my efforts. A killing blow should always yield a badge of honor, period. The fact that I’ve killed over 100 individuals in combat and only have 13 badges of honor on my main is ridiculous.
I’m aiming for a legendary, and needing 500 badges with its current drop rate is obscene. People have to create alts and farm the jumping puzzles to get their badges for their legendaries. That should NOT be the way its done, anet.

Arenanet fix your badge system its freaking unfair. Some people get 30-80 a day while others get 4-18 a day.
1. Make badges of honor autoloot= no further action to obtain other than killing another player or npc that drops badges. This is not a good system of having to find loot bags in battle. Make the drop rate more fair.
2. I agree killing blows should automatically earn at least 1 badge.
Right now JP are the only way to get badges reliable. Rangers for some reason at least me don’t get that many badges even if I came wvw 4-6 hours a day. Its not like I am doing wvw for fun, I am seeking out battles fighting people for the badges. Work = rewards.
Auto loot should always be something in place for badges, make it similar to karma from completing quests or camps etc.
If autolooting badges is too difficult to implement, they should do it the same way items are displayed when your inventory is full i.e a box pops up on screen with the loot and a take button.
I can’t imagine how many badges I have left lying around because I have moved to a different spot when someone I attacked actually died.
EDIT I am in complete agreement with others that said it, a kill should = badge(s), not some random chance.

Its not like I am doing wvw for fun, I am seeking out battles fighting people for the badges.
I hope that is meant to be “It feels like I’m not doing it for fun anymore” rather than “I don’t play WvW for fun”. Because if enjoyment isn’t the reason you’re here, only badges, then… why bother?

What I don’t get with the badge drops is that my kills per hour with my engi are probably twice as high than my thief and I do way more total damage with AoE skills and condi stacks…yet I get far more badges with the thief because it is much easier to do big chunks of single target damage and stomp. I gave up on invader’s armor a long time ago and just use the badges for seige…which even then it’s like 3 nights of WvW for one golem. Such a terrible reward system.
I think an easier solution is to remove badges entirely and make karma usefull. Karma is not hard to come by and people like me who dont want a legendry dont know what to do with the 750k karma ive saved up.

I agree with the idea that they should remove badges from the puzzles and leave the blueprints in.
Isn’t the drop rate for kills like this?:
- You have to hit a mob at least once (or at least 1000 damage? not sure) for a chance to get loot. You won’t always get loot.
- Then the badges of honor (like any other item) also have a drop rate.
So if the chance for loot bags is 50% per kill (example) and badges of honor is also 50%, then basically the chance for getting badges for a kill is only 25%. Although it seems like the chance to get them is around 10% overall….

All they have to do is tweak the Daily system:
kill “x” number of enemy players, cap certain type/amount of objectives….etc. etc, reward “x” number of badges depending on what you manage to accomplish.
System is in already in place, and seems much easier to implement.

this what i have noticed also, sometimes i like to go around with the blob and help blow stuff up, mainly when watching something on TV at the same time
but when i do things like help watch/take supply camps that most the times is done with smaller groups of 10 or so you seem to get a bag for each kill.
i tallied my badges with the one item i bought plus all in the bank came out around 1400. i only have a little over 9k kills which comes out to around 1 badge for every 6.5 kills. now granted some came from keep lords and such so probably closer to 1 per 8 kills.
also i saw some guy mention making siege plans account bound. i too wish they would do this. however there is a work around.
1)get a friend and go to one of the WvW maps.
2)double click a blueprint, but instead of using 1 to deploy it or 2 to put back in your bag, hit your weapon swap button. this will cause the box in your hands to fall to the ground. your friend then can pick it up and use 2 to put it in his bags.
3)repeat till your friend has all you blueprints then come into the map with your main and he can repeat the process.
I no this isn’t optimal but until they change them to account bound it is all we have.
