I’ll skip the QQs and all that. You don’t want to hear about my server and its problems, and I’m honestly not all interested in seeing this thread become an AA meeting of sorts for players who want to complain to each other about their same personal problems they have addressed on every other thread created in the WvW forum.
Nah, I’ll just skip to what bugs me and my proposal to -help- fix it. If you agree with some of the stuff I say, great! Let me know. If you don’t, great! Let me know.
I think orbs unbalance the game unnecessarily. If a server is already strong enough to possess all three orbs and hold on to them, they shouldn’t get a 15% boost to main stats to only help them hold on to them longer.
My proposal?
Make the orbs worth a lot of points to make sure people REALLY want to grab them and keep them. If a server has one orb, the other two servers get a 5% bonus to all stats. If a server has all three orbs, give the other two servers a 15% bonus to stats. If all servers have 1 orb each, they all get a 5% bonus to stats and they cancel each other out. If one server has 2 orbs, and another has one, then the weakest server gets 15% bonus, the one with a single orb gets 10% bonus, and the server with two orbs gets 5% bonus. Straight forward enough.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think this is a fix-all by any means. I just think this will help balance things a bit more. The servers with the orbs get lots of points and the servers without them get a bonus that will help invigorate them to try and get the orbs back. Will this work? I have no idea. I just am not a fan of making the winning server stronger and the losing servers weaker.

On the other hand he does have a point…if one server is that much in control, you’d think the others need a boost.
Yep I’ve posted this same thing multiple times. The orbs basically give the team that is already winning an advantage. ..not a very good mechanic.
I know very little about orbs, but what if a realm gets 3 orbs, gets a 15% buff for a day, but the other 2 orbs are no longer theirs and are up for grabs.
I don’t think the title is accurate for the post, but the OP makes a good point. My server is currently getting destroyed, partly due to hacks, so no one wants to participate anymore because we’re at an extreme disadvantage.

Every night, they get the orbs(along with the rest of the map). However, by mid-day the next day, we own at least 2 of them; if not 3. If not for the orb bonus, we could very well be even farther behind.

OR, if not for the orb bonus your servers could be closer together.

Understandable… but that’s only during the night (relatively speaking). I’d still say making some sort of change like this would make a positive difference overall since. AR already has taken a firm stance on the issue of night capping, so I just think it’d be better to focus on how to improve gameplay during the daytime.
I imagine the reasoning for Orbs is that the more you have the more thinly spread you have to be to defend your lands so bonus makes sense.
But in reality both sides have the same queue limits so they muster same number of players. Orbs are in different zones and so if all queues are full you can defend all equally well but now with a bonus.
And at least on my server people attack in one or two zergs instead of nibbling in smaller groups on all assets of the enemy, so the fact that they would have to spread thin to defend is irrelevant, they have to hold 1-2 locations and now they got a massive bonus.
Now whether we need a patch to fix poor tactics on side of players is a different question.
