Ballista broken needs to be fixed.
Ballistas can fire straight down a cliff 90 degrees as well. If anything is within the range of the ballista in a sphere around it and nothing is blocking the shot the ballista can attack it.
Yes, if that ballista existed in real life it wouldn’t be possible for it to fire at those extreme angles, but realism and gameplay balance exist on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Sure, it wouldn’t be that difficult to let the ballista only fire at targets within 10-15 degrees on the Z axis from its point of orgin, but it would severely break the balance in WvWvW if ballistas could not attack siege equipment in keeps and towers.
Terrible idea. Everything should have a counter. Not everything does. There are very, very, few spots that can’t be hit with siege and player AoEs. It is your own fault for not recognizing these spots and building your own counter-siege.
You’re right, realism in siege warfare in this game is key. Now back to building that catapult behind my keep gate….

Yes bad idea. Ballista’s are key for taking out enemy trebs (assuming you don’t have a counter treb or something), and to limit it’s angle of attack would make places like the garrison cliff too hard to get at.
Place your trebs in better places? Defend them? Take out said ballistas and their operator(s)?
The devs don’t care about WvW so I’m gonna kill players in PvE!

Was going to say you can place a treb on garri just outside the AC circle of fire. AC are fairly effective on tower trebs though.
Well to be honest, in terms of design, i agree. If only the balista angle could to meet their target’s direction it would be better.
In terms of it’s job, it’s fine. There are other concerns to fix atm.
Making this change could potentially eliminate the use of balistas in WvWvW. They are already very situational and primarily used to counter siege in places that AoE cannot hit. Balistas have to be able to have line of sight. Because the balista is forced to have a line of sight there are very few places that it can be placed to hit siege/players safely out of range of AoE. If players are aware of it they can just zig zag to avoid the balista shots and never get hit. With this change hitting people would be even more of a challenge that it already is.
