Q:
I am currently on the dragonbrand server. While i do not wvw much, this summer i am going to be able to put a lot more hours into the game and want to get back into this game type. The few times that i have recently tried roaming on DB i am constantly getting ganked and zerged down. I honestly do not think i have seen a single solo roamer such as myself in over a month. I have also heard several times that DB is dying, and so i am looking to transfer to a server where there is lots of action, and good, fair fights for everyone. Typically i play most actively during the mid-morning/afternoon and late at night although i can make an effort to be online during any other time if that is the most roaming action is available. So im looking for suggestions. Based on the information provided, which server do you think would be a good fit for me?
I can tell you right now you are likely to get a myriad of conflicting information on where to go. They say dragonbrand is dying because so many guilds decided to leave, en masse. It will take time for it to settle as a server. In the mean time, other guilds have left too and it’s likely a few more will. Unfortunately you are also for the past week and again this week for some strange reason facing some of the very people you shared your server with until 2 months ago, and they have been out for blood for anyone currently on DB.
If people tell you t3 is where it’s at for solo roaming or small group roaming, I’d laugh and look elsewhere tbh. Really there are few solo roamers left in many tiers, although in those below t4 it is far more likely to see them as I understand it. You could wait out your servers drop for a while (although you likely will be stuck for a few more weeks in t4) and see what happens, but unfortunately at least this week will continue to be awful.
Your best bet will probably be to look at multiple servers and contact people via their community forums to find out about specific times and general information.

Yeah unfortunately mag is the only server in t3 that has many roamers… and even our roaming community on mag is kinda shrinking but there isn’t really a solo roaming community out there and the majority of people who do roam roam in teams now because otherwise they get rofl stomped by groups of 3-10 people so that its very hard to win fights even if your better than your opponents. I recommend being on a server where you get to fight those few servers that actually have a roaming community and maybe moving there with some friends so you can roam as a group from time to time ( because solo roaming because boring after a while for most people…)
Well, to be honest I’d stick with DB for now, as it is going to fall down a bit onver the next few weeks. That will let you get to see a bunch of more servers, that you can observe and gather information from.
The tricky part about roaming is that there is technically no good server to transfer to for roaming, as it depends almost entirely upon the server you play against. Since what you want as a roamer is an opposing server that gives you small fights (1-5 groups). So if you hear that Server X is the best roaming server and transfer there, you’ll be on the team with all the roamers you probably would want to fight against.
Some servers I’ve either experienced first hand or heard have good roamers: NSP, FC, IOJ, DH, AR, EBay (some of this might have changed, NSP for example got a lot more people since then, and moved up to T3 again, so they might have changed. Played a lot against FC but I think they lost some people so don’t know how many roamers are left, etc).
Well, I can give you my take on the different tiers I’ve been in and the quality of roaming in each.
t3: A well played small havoc can do a lot, but zergs will run you down even if you are by yourself. I was still pretty bad at PvP when I was in t3, so I can’t really say how well solo roaming works.
t2: during NA hours, you will be steamrolled by massive zergs, but I’ve heard that the late night coverage is still pretty weak, so you might be able to roam, but from what I know, it is still probably the least popular tier for roamers, so good luck getting good fights.
t1: I like t1. It has a fair amount of everything a wvw player might want. Small group havoc is decent, you can do a bit of damage if you play well. Solo roaming is kitten one hand, the zerg is less likely to run you over because squirell chasing is frowned upon so heavily, and you will rarely ever get chased across the map by zerglings. On the other, most of your fights will be 1v2+ because the people who only want to 1v1 are all hanging out outside sm, dueling each other, so if you’re good at 1vX, then t1 can be enjoyable, but the best of t1 is in the good zergs and sometimes the small group havocs, but those really depend on the level of activity of the organized havoc guilds. If you want a little bit of everything and you want it at any hour, t1 is a good choice.
don’t join yaks bend, sea of sorrows, or fort aspenwood. i roam for 30 minutes before i can find another solo roamer. i also find people every 3-5 minutes, but they’re mini zergs. I wish i never joined yaks bend, this place is kittening boring
