Lord Pharaoh – sylvari ranger
etc, etc – one 80 of each class
So with the announcement that wxp is going account bound and the new achievements I have come back in to WvW. For you experienced types out there I am wondering what the best class for farming bags zerg vs zerg is. I am thinking engineer with grenades but if I am wrong please do tell. I have one of each class and am looking to decide which I will decide to trait just for WvW.
Guardian. Staff #1. bind aoe loot to a mouse key….
guess I was thinking about ranged zerg vs zerg
Guardian. Staff #1. bind aoe loot to a mouse key….
Pretty much this. Spam VoJ (traited) while spamming autoloot and 1. I just keybind all three of them next to eachother when I’m farming bags (PvE too).
Well, if you’d like an alternative to guardian you might consider necromancer. I use a ‘wellomancer’ build. Using a staff, I get 1200 range on marks, 900 on wells, then there are other ‘tagging’ devices such as Life Transfer & Plague Form though you’d have to be much closer for that.
I’ve never played a guardian in WvW, so it might not be better, but I still get plenty of bags.
Guardian, by far.
Front line tank, spam staff #1 in a wide angle with 600 range, you tag the whole enemy zerg hitting #1 only every second.
And i have a engi and a necro with aoe long range skills (grenade / staff), but guardian, by far.

Summary of this thread…
Guardian if you want to feel useless and only spam 2 keys (#1 skill and auto loot) maybe three if you feel like giving empowers.
Necro if you actually want to be usefully using staff, wells, deathshording, and plaguing.
Or
Engi sorry i’ve never engi’d in WvW before too many buttons
But i’ve played both guardian and necro and my necro is pretty tanky i’m able to sit with the frontlines and survive while still putting constant conditions and AoEs on to enemies.

Never played a Guardian, but Necros tag like a machine.
Ranger with Axe main-hand is not to be underestimated. button #1 with its 2 random ricochets and a base range of 900 can tag a whole zerg in seconds at greater range than a Guardian’s staff.
Depends what’s happening, in general guardian, can be eng with flame thrower (but you’re not being especially useful) if you know when to pull out (ROCKET BOOTS!) . the 1 skill on both tends to hit pretty much everything in the zerg if you’re running around in the middle of the other zerg (and you don’t need to target anyone hurray!).
Lol gurdians by far.
Honestly, thieves do pretty well with cluster bomb and choking gas on shortbow (or pistol skills traited for bounce). The way initiative works makes them very spammable. Of course, you have to worry about the larger problem of staying alive in a zerg as a thief.
Necro, make sure Epidemic is on your hotbar, and traited for reduced cooldown. Throw down wells and marks as needed, hit epidemic on a target with lots of conditions every time it is up.
Thank you very much thank youThank you all
Guardians at the top of the list, and a necro if you want a change of pace.
Guardian is pretty good at tagging, but other than that they dont do much to the team doing that. I advise to throw in a 0/0/30/30/10 or something along those lines to get PoV and some tankiness, at least yuou wll server as meat shield.
As for being very useful and still tagging like mad crazy; staff elementalist. It is game changing. As underpowered as they are in most other scenarios, as it stand snow (and the reason why Anet is so weary about buffing them) is because they have access to some of the most dangerous skill set in the game on the right setting and right organization.
Let me give you my latest example: Last night we were in Sunnyhill in the enemy team, we had captured almost the entire map so they called reinforcements. We had around 50 vs 100 and increasing, at some point it got higher. We had dedicated parties; 5 eles, 2 thievess with 3 mesmers, 3 guardians and 2 warriors, the rest were just fillers but we were all in TS. Eles job was to hold the choke point at the door. nobody, and I mean NOBODY of the enemy team went in without our consent, and few left unscathed (darn downed state…..). We last nearly 40 minutes there, I farmed well over 200 people, we killed (counting downed and ppl who revived) around 450+ people in that entire time, and 7 sieges which we raid quickly to destroy. We lost due to overwhelming numbers and 2 nasty trebs
Basically this is what makes ele so powerful; Ice field (has virtually no cap) , statuc field (virtually no cap) the new Line warding (no cap), Meteor Shower (5 cap but for each meteor, each meteor is independent, good AoE radius now), 2 water fields to support the party, water and fire fields at command.
On TS, where we can coordinate blasts and others, an ele becomes an invaluable asset. I dont like giving this stuff away but since this thread got me started, I might as well.
But yeah, guardian, as far as tagging goes, is the best in mid and melee range.

Yes… staff guardian is useless in zerg fight… right, only empowers is useful… right….
Ive never played guardian but I can vouch for Necros, those things are beast!
With marks, wells, epidemic, and Plague you get a ton of loot bags.
Guardian Staff, Necro, Thief SB and dagger storm, Ranger with Piercing or Axe, Staff Ele… Those are all excellent taggers.
If there is a ding with the guardian and necro is that they are slow so sometimes they fall behind. This really doesn’t happen with a ranger or thief. I don’t think my thief leaves a fight without touching everything on every side of a fight. My ranger has a machine gun for a shortbow which pretty much lands on everything moving. The long bow can hit far away as well. Both of which get extra baggage when running the AoE flame blast sigil… not as zerg friendly as a guardian or necro though.
Ranger with zerker gear, longbow, piercing arrows and Rune of Torment. Rune of Torment does NOT appear to have a AOE cap upon trigger, and i have personally tagged 20 people with torment using 1 barrage.
Fire Barrage infront of zerg, target a player in the midst and use rapid fire. It is an epic combination of good solid DPS and mass tagging, careful though, you may kill yourself if the enemy has retaliation going. A good advice is to activate Troll Ungent before channeling barrage/right after channeling barrage. This way, you may only lose 1-2k HP instead of 11-12k
Elementalist with staff and “Glyph of Storms” and “Conjure Frostbow”. With those two, you can instantly tag a huge AOE and cover an entire blob with attacks. Be careful though, there is a total of 7 1/2 seconds of channeling to fire off all the attacks. be sure to have some distance between yourself and your targets.
Wellomancer, nuff said
Grenade Engineer. Simply brilliant, if you dont get killed by retaliation.
Don’t forget Radiation Field. It’s really good if placed properly.
I never found my Ranger to be a good ‘tagger’. Warrior is vastly superior to my Ranger and I’m still only using a LB on my Warrior.
How does this not explain everything you need to know.
Anyone who says guards are useless in zergs understands nothing about this game.
