At least on losing servers in WvW, people would play and defend supply points and things around it.

in its current form, its no reason to play WvW while losing, until WvW reset again.
Because you get little to no exp from zerging keeps on a losing faction which has a greater chance to not beat down the keep before defense gets there to repel your server.

very unrewarding in these losing situations, and not enjoyable when cant progress your character that may be leveling up.

no motivation to go to WvW when losing.

I agree, whenever I check the score, I only go in if we’re winning, or have a fighting chance. When one the server in first place has 180,00 points, and second has 100,000, and we have 4,000.

Disagree. Too many people were doing nothing but escorting dolyaks at the expense of the rest of the server. One Dolyak doesn’t need 20 escorts. This needs tweaking because escorting is necessary to ensure supply is moving, but not so rich that it overshadows the rest of the areas of wvw by those that only want to take an easy route to rewards of wvw.

The dolyak escorting was being botted (which is why you saw 20 people escorting them) Until they find a fix for that I guess we will have to wait.

I agree, and was also disappointed to see it was removed. Part of what made WvW so enjoyable for me was the fact that there were so many options available to help your team, and the ability to earn rewards while doing them.

yes, supply is important, and escorting dolyaks is necessary and content for the solo player/small group, not everyone wants to zerg.

Bring back the dolyak XP, removing it was not addressing the real problem, that the rewards for other content was not incentive enough. Or that there was issues making repeat dolyak escort preferable to other content.

Dont tell me how to play Anet, If I want to escort supplies and support my team that way, I shoudl be able to. Its like other MMOs penalising people defending flag bases with poor rewards, no matter that its a vital part of the game.

maybe make it so dolyaks keep walking until they find a keep without supply and the event only ends there? That way the endless short dolyak events would go, and the dolyaks would make their way into contested territory.

The problem was not only were the Dolyaks being botted for experience, karma, and gold, but there were people (on some servers) who would refuse to help out anywhere else on the map.

For instance, on my server (which I have since transferred from), people would sit in queues for WvW for hours. Then, when we finally got in, it turned out that half of the players in the map were just escorting Dolyak’s for the experience, and not helping siege castles or towers.

The purpose of WvW is to fight for your server. If half of the people are just escorting Dolyak’s, it really doesn’t help your server.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s GREAT to help your server out by escorting the dolyaks. It allows keeps to be upgraded and such. It just becomes a problem when half the people on the map are escorting the dolyaks exclusively and not helping the rest of the server out.

Event reward for escorting Dolyak caravans will return. ArenaNet simply said they were going to disable the rewards while they tweaked/worked on the system so that it could not be so easily abused.

In situations where supplies are desperately needed, the lack of getting a game reward for escorting the Dolyak should not stop you from doing so. You still get a reward: you’ve helped your team by escorting the Dolyak to a location that’s being contested, which means you may get to keep that location and have it continuously adding to your Wv3 points.

Unfortunately, like many situations, a (comparatively) small few tend to ruin it for the group as a whole.

400 exp0 ppl =13 exp

And for the botters – solo players = players gets a debuff each time when they succefully escord the dolyak
-10% exp – stacks up to 100% last 6 hours

Edit: U can loose the debuff , if u help to kill 100-200 players

If you play for your server, you should still do escort. This is a key asset in victory.
If you are not, that means you are only here for the XP which is bad.

I never understood yak farming since you got more xp, karma, gold, and entertainment out of raiding enemy yaks and camps constantly. If they want to waste their time escorting yaks purely for character advancement then let them die to the small groups that are constantly raiding. If you wanted to advance your character this was a terrible way to do it.

no way, you have plenty of escort missions in the pve map, go and escort that

Just tone down the XP reward to something minuscule.

People just like the little “ding” sound and the medal popping up. Give ’em that and … kitten, I dunno … 50 XP and call it a day.

Better yet, put a diminishing return on it like the anti-farm software. You only get full credit once every hour or so, then progressively less and less. The system would know if that’s all you are doing and eventually cut you off for the night.

That’s the thing that I think everyone is stumped by, at least part of the reasoning. True, there are better ways to advance characters. The problem was this was exploiting: people were abusing the system. Often a lot of the people who were using this exploit were using bots and such – which is not OK by itself. Even the people who weren’t using bots/etc were still exploiting and not entering WvW for the PvP. I think ArenaNet did a great thing by doing this, as it’s preserving the PvP of WvW.

The problem with allowing players to sit and farm yaks all day is that it dilutes the actual purpose of World vs World. WvW is there for people to fight each other and capture keeps, not sit and walk all day doing nothing. Small groups are not constantly raiding yak herders, and the bots might be able to auto-attack their way through a smallish group.

You’re right, it’s a terrible way to advance a character except for the lazier players who don’t want to do anything else or who might not be confident in doing anything else.

I am actually glad the xp reward for dolyaks escorting had been removed. People are actually escorting the Dolyaks for the Server > rewards.

If this is the result of removing xp reward , i sincerely hope this removal stays permanent.

Infact transfer the XP reward to people who spend gold upgrading structures.

No thanks. They were taking up spaces for people who actually wants to WvWvW rather than exp farm.

I agree with Hulka. Keep the events disabled until they find a better system.

Hell, I’d be ok if they said, “You get xp for farming dolyaks, but you can only do it once in a row. After that one attempt, you have to complete another daily PvP event before receiving credit for dolyak escorting again.”

That would be a great fix in my opinion.

I actually see more people defending caravans now than a week ago. Presumably because people have learned the value of supply routes. It’s a bit annoying that the people actually being useful don’t get anything out of it, while someone who runs off to grind centaurs gets rewarded.

Make it so you only gain exp if the Dolyak you escort gives supply to the place you escort it(meaning keep is not capped supply).
