Dear Anet,

I know previously you have mentioned that WvW seasons causes burnout. I would like to suggest perhaps bringing back some form of WvW tournament would lure back the people who left. Maybe with some unique skins to go with it.

Personally I know a ton of guys and girls who were previously wvw fans that left for other games due to the staleness of the game mode, they would definitely come back and give it a try again if seasons was reinstated.

Season 2 was I’m sure some of the best Wvw action most of us players have ever experienced for a realm v realm game. Bring back the love!

In all honesty with the current state of wvw, with all the changes, polls etc going on, it is to unstable for something like a tournament to come around. The upcoming changes and features like updates to scoring, determining the future of dbl, relinking, and server full/open status need to be settled first.

Tournaments were at best a double edged sword. It might have resulted in some surges in activity, but it was largely short term because it led to massive burnouts and players leaving not just wvw but gw itself. I was on SoR for 22 months from when it rose to tier 1 all the way down to t8, and we basically got screwed and had player exodus’ with each tournament. I for one was so burned out after the first tournament that I barely stepped into wvw for months afterwards.

Combine that fear with the current complaints from people that this server is to stacked, and that server is always full, etc etc. It just isn’t a good time for tournaments. At least not like it was in the past.

TC burnt out… pushing to tie for 2nd I think we landed? It was a lot of work and it was intense. So many people put in endless hours that led to a lot of burn out.

Even mentioning the word tournament, I feel for all those commanders who (did a fantastic job) as well as the communications /scouts who barely left the map.

I’m sure most servers have stories like this.

Tournaments won’t come out. Hero weapons are easily approachable (8 hour grind per weapon) as the new Reward Track(ArenaNetTM). So I guess it’s kind of a tournament level, since rewards are similar.

A dev stated that there were permanent losses to the population numbers after each tournament. It’s unlikely we will get them back in that form or anytime soon while all this other “stuff” is going on. We are far from tournament ready.

I would like to see tournaments come back, but there were a lot of problems with how they happened last time. I do think that if they come back they should be shorter term (to decrease the chance of burnout), and the possible rewards you could afford should be more tied to your contribution than your servers rank in the tournament (again to prevent burnout by not making players feel like they have to do everything to make their server win in order to get teh rewards representative of the amount of effort them themselves put in)

I pretty much quit wvw because of the non existing balance (regarding everything) – no tournament would bring me or any of those who’ve quit back.
Nothing that happened the past few weeks (which were a lot of good changes) brought anyone back (granted the ABL did bring some back, but others quit).
Not saying that it happened exactly how I predicted it would… you can’t just throw more people onto existing problems and expect things to work out. It might work out in NA – but our server has got the exact same queues we’ve had before being merged with another server = a lot of people quit.
The problems this game has are more subtle than fixing anything with a tournament.

Until this game mode can support a competitive environment, it’s best to avoid tournaments. Playing WvW competitively sucks at the moment and has since launch.

There were permanent losses of players because tournaments were too long they need to be short like 3 weeks max and that is it. Every quarterly update 3 weeks of tournament with open rewards.

A tournament for what reason? BG is currently clearly the biggest server there will be no contest.

what about a tournament for edge of the mists i think those games wont burn people out as much due to their short game times and might be kinds interesting.

Im not sure if people will care about getting items in a game they’ve dropped, for example, no event will make me reinstall Archeage. Also I’m not excited about sitting through inflated queues that will take actual WvWvWrs with them when they disappear.

I don’t think any sort of tournament would be any good whatsoever.

Other then above mentioned player losses we also lost a lot of players who were greatly dissapointed at lack of usefulness of their main classes in organized group vs group combat. Though things have improved since then in this area, they are still too far off.

In addition, in order to have an actual tournament, you need balanced populations and timezones, so that results are not predictable.

Until those issues are completely addressed having any sort of tournament is pointless, as it won’t really be a tournament.

What will happen is a mass influx of AP hunters, loot hungry pve crowd, server stacking, and the typical list goes on.

If anet has a wildcard this is the time to pull it, cause this beta has shown little growth result.

Would love to see a tournament… and cap each map to 20 players/server hard limit.
