[Resolved] Lag against a specific server
This has been happening to me for about a month, always during primetime .
It’s worse against BG but not limited to them.

I can confirm this isn’t limited to BG because I’ve experienced this issue about a year ago (I’ll have to go fishing to pull evidence of this experience) but it’s definitely worse and happens much more frequently when matched against Blackgate.
I’ve instructed players to open the ports recommended by ANET and have directed players to WTFast and Latency Fix to see if that resolves their issues but they still exist, apparently.
Anyone know which server the Anet WvW team is playing on this week?
Maybe they could join Haem during NA prime and possible swap servers to see if this affects everybody.
I have to admit that when I read your thread topic I chuckled to myself a little. Lag has unfortunately been a problem all over the place in WvW for months now. I think it centers around big group fights and not so much one particular server.

Except we’ve had mirror fights with other servers and haven’t come across the same issue as we do when we’re against Blackgate.
By mirror fights I mean on the same BL, relatively the same numbers, with a different server and said players experience “normal” server lag, latency spikes; none of this de-sync’d stuff you’re seeing in the video I posted in the OP.
I’m having multiple people send me VODs this morning and within the next few days so I’ll update the thread with my examples of which I speak.
The lag’s just been terrible everywhere
Yep, it’s like impossible to know where anything is. You have to guess, like:

for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Update anet’s engine they use?

I’m not sure that’s the reason.

It’s really a stretch to imagine this is a client-side issue isn’t it?
Especially when it’s only Anet’s servers (game AND forums) and happens to people spread all over the globe simultaneously.

So what are the boons and condis on the forums that cause the lag?
Links to videos?
My theory is that the game gives “skill priority” first to whoever has the larger blob (more players take up skill calculation bandwidth faster) and so the client in the smaller group doesn’t get a chance to react, similar to the old culling issue.
As a result, I don’t think the players in the larger group experience the issue while players in the smaller group struggle to understand how players in the larger group can ever play through such lag.
That said, I have a few players in TLC too who only get lag in certain matches against certain servers.

Dang. I thought it was just me. I had that weird lag while I was skirmishing against 5-ish BG on EBG. But it doesn’t really seem like it’s lagging on my end, though, because all my skills go off fine, and none of my friendlies were lagging out or rubber banding (like what happens when there’s a 3-way in SMC).
It just kinda happened at random times for no good reason. I had huge zerg fights with none of the rubber banding, but then it hit when I was fighting some doods for a camp. The enemy players just start rubber-banding all over the place, but it seems like they are still able to use their own skills fine.
Maybe it’s a reciprocal problem on BG’s end? Maybe during those fights we were bouncing around too.
I wonder if this is what I encountered the other night. I was dueling a BG S/P thief on one of the alpine BLs (cant remember which).
Several times, his pistol whip animation was happening about 600-900 away and damaging me, then he’d appear next to me only around when it ended.
I thought maybe there was a trick (I have about 1.5k hrs on thief and wasn’t aware of it), but I couldn’t replicate w/ a friend. Chalked it up to lag, but I had never seen it happen like that before.
The Blackgate Bandwagon is so strong it’s creating a tangible lag vortex.
Always Roaming
Just lower the map cap to 50 and the squad size to 20.
See what that does to the lag.
I have noticed that lag is way worse fighting certain groups so I have assumed (right or wrong) that certain builds and comps have an effect on how well the servers can process all the data required…might be something might be nothing but it surely seems to favour condis as it’s difficult to get the cleanses and other skills to fire.
Hi guys,
Before you read this thread as a matchup thread, please note; this is a specific issue while in combat <vs> Blackgate WvW players.
Here is one example of what I’m talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2FT7dOL9cw&feature=youtu.be
I’m the commander in this video and there were 5 others who had the same issue, who logged, restarted, and rejoined the game. After restarting the lag was still present but only while in combative range. I do continue to command with the lag going on but others were anywhere between 3-seconds and 10-seconds behind on average. Peaking to 30-seconds.
As you can also see, the user had unrestricted access to chat and voice coms and the IP address to the map was the only address affected.
(I’m able to provide at least 8-other PoVs’ from separate players all experiencing the same issue, from different ISPs and from different parts of the country I.E. West Coast, Central, East Coast).
In each case players experienced this lag while only fighting Blackgate and not any other server.
Currently I’m on an opposing server, Fort-Aspenwood and this has only come up since we’ve been matched with BG the past two weeks.
I’ve asked other Fort-Aspenwood leaders to also report and post footage of these incidents to compile a more comprehensive bug report but I figured I’d at least get the ball rolling.
A birdy whispered me advising the following to those who have this issue not just from Blackgate, but from any server that you lag specifically against:
“Heyas Haem, saw your video of the lag thing. I had that happening <vs> SBI on DBL. I was suggested to clear my .dat file and to repair my client. Since then, I’ve had no lag issues.”
The suggestion is for a player to clear the .dat file and repair the client. Perhaps that may help, some.
This is exactly what I get from specific servers too oddly (interestingly it can happen even in smaller 10~ v 10~ fights, just any encounter that is over 5 people sometimes), but I will delete my local.dat to see if that makes any diff, thanks. The lag is just getting really bad lately though, not sure if it’s from previous ddos or the new episode or combination of both, even the forums are affected.
Here is another video showcasing the lag that is specific to BG —
Here is another video showcasing the lag that is specific to BG —
While the video is of BG I can tell you it’s every server with zerg vs. zerg

I’ll be uploading more to this thread in regards to other fights of the same players against a different server, you’ll see similar numbers, but different de-sync results.
I’ve been having the same issue against HoD this week. Massive 2-4k ping spikes as soon as we near their zerg.

It’s the same for any server going against another zerg. How do you think I feel when playing thief. and I’m spamming a skill to use, and burn up all my initiate because my skill didn’t go off.
Blackgate is not the only one with lagtraps. Many other servers carrying them with them causing massive skill lag/screen freezes.

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
Here’s another POV with desync — https://youtu.be/l8rAOh48eTI
In the initial video, we had multiple members lagging on BG as well (my screen was a slideshow – can’t show video cause my recording software went caput :/). The video on EBG though, we decidedly weren’t lagging on our end. I have a recording of that night I can send if anyone from Anet needs it for data purposes.
Lythereal Fields, lvl 80 mesmer, Lythiele, lvl 80 ele, and Lythigrr, lvl 80 guard
That lag happens to me as well, except it happens against both BG and Mag, never any other server, and it’s always in combat. It doesn’t have to be a large group fight either; i’ve just noticed that when facing either of these servers, more of than not the combat results in that type of lag.
kittening mag always lags me out, what with their constant blobbing, unprecedented condi use, and unwillingness to fight unless they outnumber you 2.8 quintillion to one. And don’t even get me started on the siege!
But in all seriousness the lag has been pretty atrocious at times even when it wasn’t bad before and only showed up in the lagfest that is smc threeways. Ping spikes, rubber banding, etc it just comes and goes usually when another server Zerg shows up but sometimes it happens just randomly near nothing at all :/

Resolved —
Multiple players reported that completely wiping GW2 from your computer and uninstalling the game & client —> then reinstalling / repairing the game & client eliminated or greatly reduced the de-sync and lag they experienced against specific servers (Noted in this thread: BG,SBI,Mag,DB,HoD).
I’m assuming this is a fix for any player who experiences de-sync or lag they have against a specific server not listed above.
A player suggested that just deleting the .dat files related to GW2 and repairing the client also produced the same results, which may reduce the amount of time there is required to repair the game / client.
Depending on your internet connection it may take anywhere from a few hours, overnight, or a day to repair / re-download the game & client.
I hope this helps anyone experiencing these issues.
Cheers,
Haematic
Hopefully ANET can trace what files are making players de-sync -or- lag against specific servers and comment in this thread to help those who may not benefit from this resolution.

Well, they’ve had this same issue for 5 years so… I doubt it. I remember the first year of GW2, lol. Had to redownload the game every 2-3 months simply because each patch broke it more and more. Not so bad nowadays but still recommended to sometimes take the time to simply delete the big .dat and let it redownload.
