titles.
i don’t know if people are wanting this, i do. and i’m pretty sure some people been asking for this. and PvP has it, so it’s not impossible.
ok its not fun if you can switch build at will,
“you can only switch build while OOC…”
nope, thiefs can run and change their build…
how about, you can change build but then you have to re-enter the map…
OR
the build selection is only available on character select…
it’s still better than having to click them one by one trait by trait utility by utility…

is this a thread about people changing builds in wvw to counter you or a thread about build templates?
I think it’s a little bit of both.
If you’re asking for a build template that automatically equips you with gear, traits and skills, then you’re gonna have lots of friends that’ll agree with you.
If you’re adding that all those changes should be free : i.e. unlink armor with stat like in PvP and just put new prefixes in your gear for free, then… Why not ?
If you’re asking players to be able to change build only in specific places, then you may not become that popular ;-)
a build template that automatically equips you with gear, traits and skills, then you’re
this,
like preset, you know…you set a certain build, put the armor, trait and skills and all, then save it, name it what you want, let’s say “preset 1 : cancer condi build” then save
then preset 2 : blablabal build
then if you want to change build you just have to click it…
still, for each build you have to put the armor, so if you have 2 builds, then you have to actually have 2 set of armor.
is my post unclear about that? sorry but i’m not a native english and my english is bad
:(

We had this in GW1 and it was useful.
In WvW I’d really like to be able to OOC and change from a roaming build to a support build or assault build…
The way it used to work was you had to get the equipment and traits etc and then you saved the template for that build. When you wanted to use that build you went ooc, selected from the drop down menu of your saved builds and, if you had the equipment required, it applied the build. You could even message people the build string so you could share builds easily.
This would be even better if there was dedicated storage for the equipment so it doesn’t take inventory space. Anet could make money here by selling a soulbound “Build Storage Bag” for 800 gems, and they’d sell like hot cakes too.
One “bag” per build you can save – so if you buy one you can save one alternative build. Want two alternative builds? Buy two.
It would be an alternative “Equipment” screen so you can store a full set of armour and trinkets and weapons, but not accessible as inventory items unless you are wearing them.
@Yuffi
exactly, and i wouldn’t mind buying it from gemstore…like you said, i bet people will definitely buy it
I’ve often asked for this, being one of the best features of Guild Wars.
They didn’t bring it across to GW2. I assume they didn’t as they didn’t think it would be an issue as they assumed the only place people would change frequently would be pvp and that’s got ‘trinkets’.
As the main place it would be good for is wvw, I don’t expect to ever see it. How I miss being able to grab a template and apply the build!
It could work in GW2 just as easily and would make the game a lot more enjoyable. As it is now, switching builds is a long drawn out process of writing everything down then switching to the other build (which you wrote down) and then trying to find that last piece from wherever you put it.
I’ve no issue with storing armor sets- I keep two on most of my toons at least and bank tabs are full of other stuff, but the idea of of an armor and rings, etc storage would be great if accessable from anywhere.
yea i remember reading people been asking for this, i also already mentioned about this somewhere,,that’s why i ask if anet even consider this feature for gw2, or in wvw, hope they will answer, which, from what i saw here in this wvw forum, they won’t.
No, no, no. This was the same problem in GW1. Presets are the fix for people who can’t figure out builds.
Good idea. But put some restrictions on it like only available at spawn or something.

I can change my build manually outside the spawn, then why should I be limited to be at spawn for this? The only logic limitation is the OOC part which is already a limitation even for the manual change.

No, it’s about being able to change your load out to fit different situations without having to carry 2 or 3 sets of armor and then finding a place where you can swap them out along with the traits & utilities. As far as GW1 goes, I had a very specific build used in exactly one place and it was so much easier to click & load the named build than spend time trying to remember what it was.
I remember when they brought this into gw1. It was a massive QoL improvement that was popular with everyone. No idea why it wasn’t carried over to gw2 from the beginning.

Because you could not use it in PvP/Gvg/HoH/AB/FA at all unless you were in the lobby. That is why ALL builds have some area where they are vulnerable. It was only allowed in PvE towns, not in the instances unless you leveled up.
I’m worried this is just another form of power creep so anyone could instantly switch to the best build for a given situation. I also play several different professions and the amount of gear grind would be insane to keep up with players who only play one profession/character.

As I said, in PvP, GvG, HoH, FA, JQ you couldn’t switch unless you where in the lobby. I think if they put this in place the same rules should apply.

Maybe I misunderstood the purpose of the thread, but I don’t see those limitations explaining why it wasn’t carried through to gw2.
Not allowing build change within a pvp match is fine, as is not allowing it mid-combat (which is the case now). But the presets just allowed for simpler switching when you were otherwise allowed to change up.
If it was paired up with a locker so we didn’t have to carry all our gear in bags, that’d be even better, imo.

Actually it’s an even greater gain for people who optimize, tweak, test and adapt to a multitude of situations.
If you want to avoid a “disengage & return with counter build” scenario, fine, put a timer after disengage on it, or limit it to uncontested keeps, etc.
this “disengage & return with counter build” is the only problem, and the only solution is to force the player to return from the start, like from spawn, or even to re-load the map and re-enter the queue…
as for pve, do it only if you are in city…there, good enough…
still no response from devs, i just want to know if this feature is even considered or not…
it’s kinda important for my end-game plan atm -_-
wait…are they even read these forums?

I’d be okay with build switching if the following applied:
Also OP I’m not sure what you mean by thief can run and switch builds? Yes if they are OOC, as well as any other class. I personally like to keep Dash equipped on my thief to rack up swiftness then if I see an enemy in the distance I’ll swap to Lotus Training or whatever else I need. It’s a pain having that window open frequently but it helps.
Other games have build templates/presets. I wish this game mode had them, too. They are helpful & keep things streamlined, orderly and I’d appreciate being able to switch from zerging to roaming on the whim or what not.
thief was just a sample, not trying to point out anything…i know other classes can does the same…
yes the switching is immediate, well, you have to open Hero Menu first, then select your build, at least that’s what i can imagine…
IMO, OOC alone is not enough, i agree you can still manually change while OOC but this 1-click switch build should never require only OOC, not in WvW…
kitten , i said it as if this is are really going to happen soon… :p

No build plays itself even those with a low skill floor. Players can copy a build from anywhere and making that easier isn’t going to make them better players. Maybe before Google and internet search engines a person could make a valid point of this but that ship sailed long ago.
I would love to have full build templates in this game including gear.
As far as limitations of it ? I don’t want it to be like in Rift where you change builds while running from fight to fight, there could be many different limitations, a 5 minute cooldown, only 2-3 times per map zone in, out of combat obviously, the change itself could be a rooting and easily inturraptable 30 second cast channel, etc. etc.
Just as long as you cant change builds in mid combat and its not spammable, anything else is ok with me.
Overall it’d be a great QOL feature.
