Call for help/Server invites/Mercenary guilds

it’s a cool idea but i think it would be hard to implement. it would depend on how easy it would be to temporarily change wvw server instances for a player. im not sure the technical stuff that goes behind that, or if it works like megaservers in pve. I know you can make a guild teleporter in the guild halls so im sure its possible to transport lets say 15-20 people to one map.
Cheers for the feedback! Implementation shouldn’t be overly tricky, since the only thing keeping us from going to other servers is a little indicator on the coding of our accounts identifying our server (altered by spending gems) – so this could be as easy as having the invites add a while statement to our server permissions (or an if/elseif statement, or a condition loop), since it’s only a short-term guesting option.

Not sure if that is a good idea. First it should be clear that guilds can’t go and help a server that is matched against their “homeserver”.
Also in times where most servers are starving populationwise i already see a huge potential for bad blod and tons of drama when a guild decides to help out on a diferent server while the homeserver needs them. I already see guilds beeing blamed for loosing a matchup or loosing ranks.
Also some servers already pay guilds to move over to them (even if ppl deny that they pay for the guilds and say they only help them out with money for the trasfer… At least for me that sounds much like paying the guild). I think it could create a verry toxic atmosphere when guilds get payed for their mercenary services and in the end the servers would win that are able to pay the most guilds.
+1 Actually this idea might work with something I’m proposing. I’d support this idea.
I kind of see where you’re going with this.
This is pretty refreshing to see that you’re thinking outside the box from what the current WvW is able to do.
Instead using any timers…just make it like the LFG interface. This LFG Mercenary option only gets enabled IF different servers are able to team-up on a shared enemy map.

Toxic? It only becomes toxic if people make it toxic. There’s already plenty of room for that with guilds needing to pay for their scribes (who could easily just say goodbye). Mercenary craftsman profession.
It is what people make it out to be. No one has to offer or take money. If money’s a thing, sure – mercenary gameplay is interesting anyways. Arah dungeons (and even map taxiing) have already been used for such transactions.
In the current setup, where, as you say, a lot of servers are starved for population, this idea will benefit those servers. A server that loses because its people went to another server might have lost anyways if the same people simply had stopped playing WvW – which is what other servers are facing. The alternative is that guilds simply jump ship and gem their way onto other servers permanently, which crumples their previous server. This would allow them to come back occasionally to fight beside old comrades (not all guildies necessarily wanted to go).
Also, to be clear, when I say guesting/mercenarying/etc, I’m not indicating that people can be invited to their opponents’ servers. That would be a restriction. Players can only join servers that are not currently matched up with them.

The timer was only there as a balance in case the server that needed help suddenly outnumbers its opponents. It’d be pretty bad if a populated server simply emptied its map and then called for help and then brought all its regular members in afterward.
@Zioba – further thoughts – maybe it could be a “look for someone who needs help” panel rather than a “call for help” panel if you’re worried about toxic sales and politics. That way it’s a voluntary initiative rather than responding to pleas for assistance.
