Camp Swords Sooner
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I have gotten to a point where I can solo flip a camp just as the swords on the camp pop. That is FAR too late unless someone is basically already very near the camp.
Swords on camps should pop the instant a player (and not a PvE creature) hits or is noticed by a guard. Even better in my opinion is if camps worked like flag scouts where players were instantly marked.
+1 for the swords popping sooner, but I think the marking/flag scouts should be an upgrade.

A watchtower for camps would be interesting. Or an upgrade that buys more guards to dissuade soloers. T2/T3 camps take far longer to solo than T0/T1.

Marking players significantly increased the amount of fights at scout flags. That marking system creates far more fights and that is just a good thing in WvW. Why lock a feature that creates more fights behind a guild upgrade?

I’d say no to the idea of dissuading soloers, however faster swords or having an upgrade that will mark players close to the camp seem fine to me.
Swords soon, yes.
Making camp harder to solo, no.
Marking players, maybe. Honestly, I’m all out for removing watchtower upgrade from the game and making every NPC that see a player to mark it (that include Tower/Keep Guards). But this kinda could ruins small group offensive since people would be able to see “hey look there are 5 people there, we can take our 20man blob and mow them down and move on”.

The delayed swords on objectives currently allows tactical taps.
IE triggering swords at a location you are NOT at.
But if some players need extra time to help with defence of their camps.
I can adjust to faster swords, after all I play in a PvP enabled zone. Without an enemy, there is no WvW.

The swords used to be up right at the start of the event long ago. I don’t remember why they changed it, but we never bothered much with the change. Now, for tower and keeps it still pretty fine, but for camps, by the time swords coem up the guards are likely to be all dead and the camp is flipping.

Improve the camp guards’ skill sets so they are not being absolutely wrecked by even solo players.
Lowering the timer on swords will be even more punishing for solo players than simply improving the guards.
Another item I would like to see is Marked Traps. Good for camps and elsewhere.

You want to make the camp harder to take but says that making the swords pop faster will punish solo players? I don’t get it…

Because improved guards requires improved play. That’s something a player can learn to fight against and the guards would also be better at doing their job of holding out for players to defend.
Removing the 30sec window is not something they can change through improved play.
But I do acknowledge that “popping swords” is dysfunctional against 5+ players. To that end there have been several suggestions in this thread:
*upgrades at camp add “marked” debuff
*my own suggestion of “marked” traps
a camp having/not having a 30sec window is meaningless to a group of 5+ but it is very meaningful to group of 1-4.
To be clear, I could really careless. I use swords against home bl defenders. If people want to give me +30sec to gank the defenders trying to recap, hey gg. I suppose then we would see a thread asking anet to 30sec delay/remove swords from enemy objectives in their home bl.
Any suggestion that removes players from the wvw mode is IMHO, a bad suggestion.
Please do what ever retains more players.
Please note, multiple posts by one poster should be counted as one single opinion.

camps are pretty easy to solo tho… there was this one time i did it solo on a lv1 warrior, Literally didnt even complete the starting instance and went straight to wvw, it was not easy, but i did manage to solo it with just my autoattack, F1 with one bar of adrenaline and my heal xD…
Solo capping a camp is interrupted more than often enough by other players as it is. If you aren’t anywhere near a camp, there shouldn’t be time enough to port and run in when it is being capped. If you want to defend the camp, be near enough to it that you can react.

You cannot enter wvw from the starter instance, ever.

I belive you were able to do it before, but not now. They fixed that. I had friends who had a legit level 1 character on spvp. You could just exit to LA from HotM and use the portals to WvW.

Ive tried repeatedly since launch to do just that. But I suppose somewhere in there they may have messed something up with changes to the starter instance.
Quite often I will pop onto a borderland to take our spawn camp and there are 5 roamers defending the map that all run to the camp as soon as it gets swords.
The only chance I have to take it is to burn the camp as fast as possible and get it capped before they can run to me. I imagine making swords pop earlier or adding the red dots radar concept would make it much harder to take camps.
The successful defenders will zone themselves around two camps and a tower rather than rely on automated notifications like white swords.
There has to balance between defending and attacking – as sometimes defenders will outnumber attackers (my case) and other times attackers will outnumber defenders.
How about no white swords when someone has the outnumbered buff on them?
I give up. If ANet ever folds to these buffing camp demands, among the many other solo player hating requests, I think I’ll just become a full time zergling until the game becomes too stale to play any longer.
I like doing things by myself despite how difficult it is. There are blobs and gankers everywhere , “marked” buff on sentries and towers making it all the more easy for people to outnumber you and bunker builds left and right that are just designed to kite you until they get back up. Even with all that crap that makes it feel like you’re always going against the odds, I still like to think for myself and to attempt to contribute to my server on a more personal level. But people are so obsessed with forcing the blob mentality that I can’t see this passion for solo play lasting a whole lot longer, assuming ANet caves to the cries of their many sobbing children.
I may not have been around since the very beginning but I have been around long enough to know that roaming and solo play is but a shadow of it’s former self. Taking camps, killing dolyaks and attempting to kill other players before you’re swarmed by a flock of them is all we have left. And even yaks can be extremely hard to kill if a player is nearby thanks to the aura it gets (which, although a nice addition, it still contributes to the problem). Before we know it sentries are going to be Champion status and camps will be full of elite NPC’s and “marked” buff and the only thing you’ll be able to do by yourself is to die.

This pretty much.

The simple answer to the having the swords making it “harder” to cap is subtract 2s per tier on the warning. the current timer is what, 30s? T3 get 24s as a upgrade boon. Simple. Take an existing system and tweak it a little. Not enough? Tweak it some more if required. Removing the delay completely because reasons is as logical as removing the contested waypoint gap because reason.

Really ? A watchtower for camps so your lazy kitten doesnt have to check for contested stuff ? Watchtowers completely remove small havoc squads trying to ninja something.Where in the past people would respond on something going contested, where now they respond on how many dots they see on the map, where trying to ninja a t3 with a watchtower is just a waste of time atm, where in the past it was possible.Watchtowers were a ridiculous idea to implement in the first place.
i don’t see why personally defending the camp is not an option
if it’s important, devote people to it
If ya see a camp being flipped (which is easy now with the INYOFACE message ) try to predict where the flippers hit next, and intercept.
Watchballoons for camps? Whats next, tower upgrade to sent an npc zerg to a camp to have it defend for you lazy kittenstuffers?
