GvG only exists in wvw because there is no actual gamemode. If it was it’s own stand alone, I doubt it would be a “minority” as you put it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it over took tpvp, because how long have people been asking for a deathmatch type game?

While I’m no dev, I strongly doubt that GvG will be (if there will ever be a GvG mode) a deathmatch the way it’s played by the WvW community now, but just my IMO.

I guess the CDI will be out in 2 to 3 weeks

I made a thread about allowing us to utilize the Crown Pavilion for GvG year round and it wasn’t a very popular thread. Maybe if someone smarter than I was able to put together a proposal on how using the Crown Pavilion for GvG, given that it has multiple arenas up top with a ring for spectators to watch from without interfering and lots of wide open space down below (already segmented into different terrain themes) is an excellent idea because it already exists in game so it doesn’t require much effort and will also satisfy a large portion of the community.

It already has a Queue system built into the instance for the arenas.
The main platform in the center could hold leader boards that just track the number of wins each team has. Every hour could be a mini tournament down below and the team with the most wins gets a prize or something. The upper ring could be a designated skirmish area until actual tournaments start and then they could be locked to tournament participants only.

I think with utilizing Crown Pavilion 90% of the work has already been completed. The tournaments and scoring can come later and be tweaked based on feedback from the community.

And while people wait for GvG there is always the ability to create your own (that mimics GW1s version quite well).

1: Put score-limit on max (1000 points)
2: Put time-limit on max (30 minutes)
3: Put only Legacy of the Foefire in the queue
4: End the match when one team kills the other teams Guild Lord
5: GW1 GvG emulation complete.

However, this is limited to 5 vs 5 instead of 8 vs 8 or more…

It will still be missing the guild ladder. Which was a huge plus in GW1

The fact remains that the game-mode itself can be more or less completely emulated, even though not everything around it would work the same.

Err this isn’t exactly some ground breaking suggestion.

It’s been two years and quite frankly this comment demonstrates exactly why a lot of the competitive people got bored and or frustrated and ditched this game(and most likely for good).

I have never claimed that it was groundbreaking. I simply showed that it is fully possible to get almost an exact replica of the GvG mode from Guild Wars 1 in this game right now.

They should have GvG released right around the corner, we shouldn’t be asking to have a discussion on the topic. What would a discussion accomplish beside remind us how cool it would be and how Anet missed the mark?

At this point it’s better to hope for GW3.

My point is that if these players found sPvP to be more attractive than the flexibility offered by WvWvW then GvGs would have taken off there, doubt you would have been the one to think of it now.

So the ability to do exactly what people have been demanding since release does not matter because people don’t want to do it in that specific game-mode?

Why could one question then?
Do they want gear and such to actually matter, since they prefer to do it in WvW (without the major part of Guild Lord)?
Is it actual GW1 GvG they want, as they always seems to claim, or is it something else?

You did read my comment. Right? As for your second question, there’s two years worth of suggestions/demands/pleas of what the community wanted out of GvGs in GW 2 (so check that out if you care to). What they got was a sectioned off corner of a jumping puzzle map to face opponents limited by their current WvWvW match. But hey, this CDI might be it! Stay positive lordkrall.

I understand the freedom argument but at the same time it baffles me. One of the most recurrent comment the “competitive players” will spout at every opportunity they have is that you need to give skill more space. Yes, WvW has more freedom but also isn’t nearly as balanced. Which put more in question the “skill” part of any win.

That reminds me of some dueling players who just wanders around with a full on dueling spec beating the kitten out of players who have more balanced build for the need of WvW (not just one trick pony builds that always execute the same skill sequence).
Of course they will win more often than not in duels (but also be far less useful in any other part of the game) but don’t tell them their victory is in large part due to their build being duel oriented and not their inherent talent or skill. If they wanted to show any skill they would say let’s switch role and see if I still beat the kitten out of you with my staff ele while you pick your shatter mesmer or thief (good luck to the poor sod that will now have to get a taste of what it can feel likes to be on the defensive non-stop as I face roll him into dirt without much risk). In short, skill shining usually call for nullification of as many unfair advantages and is why I’m baffled by the appeal of WvW who is all but balanced.

That being said, I can understand your frustration even if for me GvG was always about a control freak player playing 8 players at the same time by yelling orders in a mike. I personally hate it in GW1 because it felt like you were in a rowboat. I’m a freestyle guy and this is no place for freestyle. Like at all.

Yes, Anet’s talking about it right now, but just look at their past history with WvW and GvG (remember the “ruining my game mode” quote from that dev?), the fact that they’re completely and utterly out of touch with the WvW community (white swords), and the fact that they always talk big but rarely deliver (pretty much everything).

If you show up to participate in a GvG, you better be using an appropriate build and have a team mentality, comparing it to a roamer bursting down a player on their way back to a zerg(I’m taking that is what you meant by “WvWvW needs”) is quite unfair.

1. There are also rules and regulations to even the playing field while having wiggle room for builds, thus group comps, thus playstyle and pre-wardrobe unification/revamps, you could look nice with those expensive skins you’ve worked for.

2. It’s not(10 == (40+(rand(stacks))+(supAC*2)). Everybody is max level and geared and teams have equal numbers. Short of lag and disconnects, if your team loses, it’s because mistakes were made. It’s not WvWvW. See point 1.

3. More open space and more than a handful of people can actually watch the fights.

What you see as a “control freak playing 8 players”, I see as a group people who like fighting together and are striving for precision and excellence as a unit. Some are leaders, some are protectors and some just like seeing HP bars melt. Part of the fun is seeing what their machine can do. Anet wants to do the whole e-sports scene and managed to miss this huge opportunity.

Well, I honestly hope you will get some space to play what you guys like to play.

As a side note, it is not because you are all max level and with top gear that only skill remain. Depending on what you meant by “wiggle room for builds” unless you all have the exact same builds on both sides there is some level of rock, paper, scissor that may happen. Some build are just better vs others without being overall better. Pick the wrong ones relative to your opponent and you will be significantly handicapped.

That being said, again, best of luck with you guys getting some virtual space that will truly be yours.

GvG as it currently exists in the game (a player created fighting format in WvW) is what players want support for.

We have custom arenas that allow for GvG’s within the games sPvP mechanics, but this isn’t a thing the players are interested in.

As far as WvW goes, ANet has catered to their flawed scoring system for 2 years, much to the detriment of their own game. They have watched their WvW playerbase diminish from constant queues across all servers, to minimal queues on T1 servers.

There are many contributing factors to the loss of players and player interest, and the lack of game support aside from the creation of OS for the GvG format is indeed one of them.

There are dozens of GvG guilds that have left the game, both NA and EU. While “dozens” doesn’t sound like a lot you just have to do some simple math (or keep up with the GvG’ers) to realize that equates to, literally, hundreds of players.

If you look at the currently active (and much smaller) GvG “scene”, and do the simple math of dozens of participatory guilds, they too represent hundreds of players. I represent one small WvW guild with a roster of 50 players that all GvG.

WvW population is definitely a minority part of a minority population of the game, but people interested and participating in GvG are not the minority in WvW. People queue maps to watch them with streamers having hundreds of viewers simultaneously. No one queues maps to watch xyz blob guild cap a keep.

Gvg isn’t for me, but I hope you all get what you want. I do think it is somewhere between a niche and minority of wvw pop so I wouldn’t hold my breath on extensive changes…..
