No. Absolutely no.

There would be nothing “fun” about bypassing walls/gates. The only thing it would do is lead to even more takeovers with no PvP. As it is, dropping 4 rams on a gate will let you inside faster than defense can respond, unless they are already there waiting for you. You’re imagining a siege tower as a thing you roll up and drop the ramp and there’s a big fight on the wall but the reality is that it would mainly be used to fast-cap forts before the defense could show up.

It depends. If the Siege Tower could be destroyed fairly easy and got a very slow mobility, or the assaulting towers even appear on the map (being limited to 1/2 per map) would add an extra layer of fun!

EDIT: And if they could only be built in Supply camps, would be better! We would have a more strategic suplly camps, a route to defend while the tower was reaching into the walls, and have yet to reach it’s destination. If a thing like this could indeed reach the gates/walls, then the defenders were really slacking!

How about only allowing the cap after gate breach? We can keep the Siege Towers like this, and would end the wall jumping exploits (since you can only cap after the gates are down).

You do know that that is real, right?

Firing diseased/rotting corpses was a real thing… it not only spread illness but also seriously demoralised enemies. Dead enemy soldiers were also occasionally fired in sieges. The Mongol’s used black plague as chemical warfare in this manner to conquer a vast amount of land.

Castles were cities in real life, not just fortifications… as such sieges could last weeks, months or even years as it was vastly involving cutting your enemy from their crops and just waiting them out.

While I love the idea of “Tanks”…I think I like the idea of a number of things…for example, why is there no really “Defense” Siege? Sure you can use Siege defensively, but it’s almost all intended for attacking. AC is the closest thing to “Defensive” I can think of. Cannons are essentially a waste, because the only thing they’re good for is stopping small groups from attacking…when a large group attacks, anyone on the cannon is down before they can get a single hit off.

Things I would like to see:
-Cannons be mounted into walls with the Player mounting it out of “Range” of being attacked while shooting.
- Siege that can be set as “Defensive” and/or placed in specific spots where it’s timer can be increased dramatically before despawning.
- Siege intended specifically for Defensive use…Like Cannon emplacements that are place-able Siege, or maybe “Machine Gun Turrets” or such. I really also liked the idea of “Traps” that are able to be placed.
- I think having a “Portal” made the same way Waypoints are that connect Towers to Keeps would be awesome.(Example: Hills being Portal-connected to NE Tower and SE Tower, Garri connected to both Northern Towers or maybe all 4 since it -is- Garrison, Bay connected to SW and NW towers.)

Yes, I’m fully aware that this is real. Upon rereading my original post, I can see how it may come across differently. I meant it in the way of “those things, they’re already ingame, and they count as something you’d prefer to not have added to the game?” (with “you” being the second reply to this thread, my apologies for not quoting correctly before).

On a different note: it’s fun to just think about the ideas in this thread.

I’m not saying they should be introduced, but it’s a bit silly to say that actual game elements aren’t fitting.

Tanks are in the lore, just because you dont think they are realistic doesnt make them outside of guildwars lore.

I would like a bit more automation on the map to be honest, maybe every so often the commander auto attacks with a few npcs from our home base so people stay on wvw to defend.

More commander features would be interesting, if we could direct where the npcs go such as the quaggans to attack one spot it would improve the possible tactics we had

I want them to add Rock. We could use Rock to stand on, or throw, or block a door, or as a pet.

Tanks… I think it could work but with a couple of things to offset its offensive capabilities such as restricting it to using the roads only and placing an icon on the map representing where it was so defenders would know and be able to react accordingly.

Also, make it require multiple people in order to function properly, such as one driver, one gunner – maybe ballista or AC – and one cannon/catapult operator. This would promote teamwork etc.

Have it buildable only at the supply camp closest to your spawn. This means you must take bay or hills before you can move on to garrison and the northern towers (because it can’t move off road).

Also making it impossible to WP or teleport via mesmer portal means people would have to escort the tank towards the objective.

Anyways, it is almost midnight here and I"m dozing off over my keyboard so while I don’t expect to see this happen any time soon I think there are plenty of ways that it could be made to work and introduce new ways for people to work together.

Ballistas = real
Arrow carts = real
Golems = fantasy

So the one siege engine that only exists in fantasy is the one that’s the biggest stretch for you? I don’t get it.

Anyway, I conceptually like the idea of a tank. It would basically just be a “catapult golem”, though I suppose it could also be a ballista.

I mean realism. And you know what I meant.

Because Elementalists wielding the elements and Guardians summoning magical barriers weren’t real enough.

Last I checked. This is a fantasy game. Not a medieval one.

Also there are already tanks in the game. And air ships. And submarines.

They need to expand on the content because a lack of evolution equates to boredom.

Personally I’d like to see more siege variety too. Even the mobile siege tower has merit given enough work/changes. Be less critical! Sometimes less is more, sometimes it really is just.. well less lol.

To support more siege options however, forts need more depth to support it. Wall breach is such a short way of capping a fort on the sly (just as someone already said) so things like the mechanisms in which a fort is overtaken/captured could use work to allow more variety/expansion.
