Can we talk about invisible players in WvWvW?

I do agree. Several times, against quit big enemies gathering, I spent my whole fighting by trying to kill people I did not see by using the tab key. In one occasion, after opening a keep gate, we rushed in because the courtyard was “clean”, only to be almost insta killed by aoe 3 secondes later and having a HUGE crowd poping in from of me 20 seconds later.
Eventhough it was far from perfect, the AION system of removing models but leaving the “tags” is better than seeing nothing at all.
Yeah, not showing players/NPCs at all is a game flaw if it happens by purpose and should be fixed!
Had these kind of things within PvE and WvW. It’s really annoying if you can’t fight encounters or can’t help allies because you don’t see them (or actually don’t even know that they are there)!

my fps is 5 when there is 30 of my teamates casting spells…..cant imagine it being any worse without the invisible enemy…..

It’s getting worse!
Seriously, the game was running great what seemed like a couple patches ago, even in big zerg battles.
Now today, I’m at our home keep in Eternal Battlegrounds, and the engine is not even rendering about 10 enemy players coming across a bridge within range of the cannon I’m manning, until they are right under the walls of the keep.
Meanwhile it did show about 6-8 of my own team running toward said bridge. I don’t get it. But I’d rather see more enemy and less of my allies if I really had to choose.
This happens to me as well, only thing is my FPS in WvW is fairly decent (around 20s-30s fps in large scale battles.) I’m guessing its a server side issue and has nothing to do with comp specs.
im rolling with an i7 OC’d to 4ghz, 12gb ram, and a radeon 7770 and i have no ‘invisible mobs’ – i can see them pretty far across most bridges. still getting 50 or so FPS on 1920×1080 in large battles.
could it be drivers?

Just DL’d a new nvidia driver less than 30 minutes ago, time to check and see
I’ve found the issue present on any computer build. Top of the line or mediocre. Same exact problem. Tried every variation of graphics settings. Latest official or beta drivers.

i7 @ 4.5GHz, 16GB Ram, SSD, GTX 680 4GB FTW. Though I heard that ATI does better than Nvidia currently with the game.
I have this problem. Will be defending stonemist, then all of a sudden 30+ enemy appear on the top level (granted mesmer portals). But even out in the world “Keep is empty attack” we break through and get instantly slaughter and 50+ people render in after we are dead.
I know HoD uses a lot of Invis abilities(potions?) which doesn’t help the issue either.
Is there such a thing as an invis consumable?
Also: on topic: I rarely have the extreme issues with culling that people are talking about.
It has nothing to do with drivers, or anything client-side. It’s a server-side optimization they did on or around 9/1 to help alleviate strain on the servers, possibly in conjunction with raising the max WvWvW player cap.
It’s no client side thing, an no matter what causes it (I think it’s by purpose for improved performance)… It’s a serious thing and should be worked on!
This is an absolute no-go!
One good thing is servers are starting to learn how to exploit this. I’ve seen this enough to realize that you see ranger pets/mesmer clones/npcs before the actual players render. It gives you time to stretch those fingers for the long walk of shame.
The first time my group and I asked about this (attacking an undefended keep only to have 30 appear out of nowhere) the /map told me it was a Mesmer ability (AoE invisibility). I just started a Mesmer and have no way of verifying that, but it did sound pretty powerful. Happened twice that night (flash mobs).
I don’t know if I’d be happier or not to hear it was just technical issues.

Mine drops from 60FPS to about 30FPS when there are 60+ people on the screen. Sure, it gets laggy, but still playable.

I prefer this too, right now it’s not render and leave my video card picking its nose.
The problem they are having is actually instancing. They are going to have to work on it.

This is it, everyone should re-read this over and over who is suggesting drivers or invis potions… and if you can’t see it happening, it’s just because you aren’t aware of your surroundings… as you play more, you’ll notice it.
I experinced this abit different. only when returning to Lions Arch NPCs etc are invisible. but also when I run around sometimes resource nodes are invisible for the same reason.
Agreed. Especially in instances where there’s been 50+ of each of all three teams fighting over say, SM, it can take ten frantic keypresses of the same key and 5-10 seconds after key press just to get an ability to cast because the lag is so bad.
Getting killed by invisible zergs is just as bad.

Gods I hate being jumped by invisible zergs.
I imagine it happens because the server has to send a bunch of information about each of the characters, then the appropriate textures have to be loaded and displayed.
An easy fix would be to show a simple model without any of the detailed features while the model loads. It could even be a simple humanoid mist shape in the colour of the enemy team – this is the mists after all! This should be visible at any distance up to the max draw distance.
I got bit by this one several times tonight.
It gives an even bigger advantage to the outnumbering party.

Seriously. Send me up against a 2d stick-figure army if you have to! I don’t care if it’s Paper Tyria, just get rid of the invisible zergs!
I started to get that invisible bug in spvp last night too… Never before.
At first I thought it was my PC lagging or something unusual but it was not consistent over time sometimes it would bug sometimes it was ok… no one on screen, im rushing their spot and wooooo im in middle of their team that suddently popped out of invis lol.
And no it was not aoe invis skill hehe
Was in an awesome wipe today in a large organized group of 30-40 players as we were working on the doors of Greenlake where everyone randomly started dying. It wasn’t until there was about 30 of us dead on the floor and only 4-5 remaining that the enemy players killing us started to load in.
That they have gone to 1 week match-ups with this fundamental game breaker of an issue is crazy… what is worse is that this may not be lag or a bug, but rather intentional optimization on their part. So it may be a case of that or everyone gets 4-5fps :/
Agree. I’ve died multiple times as a mellee thinking “Oh it’s only a few, I can survive this” only to get steamrolled in seconds by invisible players. I have spent at least 30 silver on repairs from this stupid glitch or bug.
