Case for one locked server
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
As much as I’d love to see a purge with literally every server but my own being cleansed in a massive rage of fire and fecal matter hitting the fan…
How about we not do that.
More locked servers would actually be the solution since it results in smaller servers and therefore more options for re-linking, which is the only option available other than forced resettlement . . .
You all ever stop and think that maybe servers aren’t open and closed because of wvsw? Maybe it infact has nothing to do with wvsw. With megaservers running pve, you might think that doesn’t make sense for them to be open/closed independent of what happens in wvsw. But maybe we are missing a piece of information here.
It would explain alot. Just a thought.

this is something anet needs to clear which is how is a server locked. =)

I thought it was well established that server population was defined entirely by the number of players who participate in wvw . . .
is it based on the period of play? the number of players? or both?
Because a team of 50 who play 6 to 8 hours may end up closing the server vs a team of 150 who plays 2 hours at a time.
Know what I mean? >3<
Is it limited to timezone? etc. etc?

I would imagine they’d prefer to keep exact details undisclosed to prevent manipulation, not that anyone would ever dream of doing such a thing . . .
The basic problem is that locked servers have no way to offset their player loss attrition. Guilds on those servers have no way of rebuilding.
Because of this only one established server has been able to maintain a high consistent population level. I am not for punishing BG but rather creating more competition for it. Right now consistently fighting against the BG blobs without fresh blood has proven the short term demise of a few servers.

Delete servers, remake new worlds! We don’t need 24 servers, we are too uneven to merge, we need long term solutions!

Without looking up the threads where Anet discussed it, the general gist was play hours. Not people. And only based on play hours in WvW.
Also, as far as population status, it was not understood to be time zone based.
Now, I think they have tried to take time zone coverageinto consideration as far as the links, but I certainly do not know that.
I am also understanding that Anet will not release actual population numbers or the actual algorithm as it would be too easy to game it.
Though, I think Blackgate has been one of the most effective servers at hibernating in a coordinated fashion to influence the server status.
Blackgate has most of the “hardcore” WvW players. “Hardcore” equals plays a ton and doesn’t care that they joined the bandwagon server just for easy wins.
ANET allowed this fiasco and even encouraged it at times. And the BandWagon kings who run BlackGate played the ANET devs for fools over and over again just to get more bandwagon players on their server.
Now WvW is a joke.

I totally agree with this. I am on Mag and were suffering now because of these problems.
BG’s NA isn’t really that strong, they just rely heavily on QQ/AHMA/FOO pinsniper/exploiters. (Yes, pulling commanders into terrain to get them stuck is an exploit)

Indeed. They’re SEA, and sometimes play NA to carry all the NA guilds. Hue hue hue. In seriousness, BG’s coverage is superior to nearly every single NA server. I’d rather they just unlock all servers, instead of just one, and let the players’ tolerance for queues determine their own fate. Oh wait, people just stack anything anyway regardless if it’s queues 24/7. Never mind just delete BG. Guess I lied about being serious.

Right now there are no unlinked servers that can come close to BG. BG’s overall coverage is the best of all servers by a large margin.
You link a heavy NA with a heavy SEA and you might match it, but that would mean one of Mag, YB, or FA linked with JQ or DB. See the issue? Two host servers linked together, MIGHT match BG coverage.
As it stands T2 is a battle of tankage to not go back up to T1. No one wants to play that game anymore except BG.

I agree BG is so stacked, that not many want to fight them. Instead servers are tanking on purpose. In order not to have to fight 2 to 3 times their numbers around the clock. Just look at the T1 scores. They tell the story in there own right.
BG itself creates kittenous playtime. For anybody that is unfortunate enoth, to have to face them. I’m pretty sure BG has at least 30% of all the active WvWers.
But at least I admit it!

They have managed to keep their Bay, Garri, Lowlands, Aldons, Jerri since reset. They have kept Klovan for nearly 5 days… Klovan. You don’t do that without coverage and numbers during NA Prime.

Yeah… seems as if some people would like to get a reaction rather than be factual.
BG may or may not be skilled in NA prime, but I can’t imagine they don’t know how to PPT.

The score definitely supports both PPT and coverage. They are winning every single hour without any competition. Not sure what ANets plan is other than allowing T1 to continue as a crap-hole few want to play in. The long term version of this is a lot of players quitting because few like to continually fight completely outnumbered all hours of the day.
Their population levels are high enough and their coverage is good enough that they can leave a constant core of scouts at every WP every hour of the day. It takes 5x the effort to flip any of their objectives because little is left undefended.

BG has been doing it for a long time. They know that scouts, callouts, and massive siege-mongering deters people from attacking their T3 stuff. YB used to be the siege masters, but BG has reeled YB in, and passed them by miles. BG has people dedicated to scouting towers, let alone keeps. Back that up by roaming map zergs, and yeah, no one wants to be there.

This is adorable, since PvE content has nothing to do with servers, since on BG you can play with someone on TC with out even guesting, so it is all about WvW
