Cata splash damage
pls anet do never again listen to defenders and do NOT fix only way to actually have a fight for objective. tyvm, bb
using bug and is the only way to go inside a keep ? Seriously ?
Learn how to play before saying something like that…
Or maybe being able to hit the wall from the bottom of the clif is “working as expected” ?
its not a bug. catas are destroying the foundation of that wall. if u want RP physics i can ask someone to draw u a picture.
Same thing can be done at places like lang where a cata can be built in the ravine, hit the cliffside and that damages the wall. I don’t think splash damage honors Z axis in GW2.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Sich.7103 been complaning about it from start of GW2 but they Think its good that Cata and treb stone have a hit area that is 500x the size of the stone.

If that’s the case, the damage should be severely reduced given that the foundation is solid stone and twice as high as the wall itself.
Anyway, Anet never responded to my question about proxy catas (despite responding to two questions a few days later) so I wouldn’t expect a response here. Also, a few years ago, they made a small-team ops video where a dev lauded the Hills spot in question as his favorite way to assault a keep. It’s this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCrTlXky2Z0 at about 56:15.
One dev obviously doesn’t speak for the whole team, but until they say something, I think it’s safe to assume that such silly cata spots are totally fine with them.
I guess people, who are complaining, never really done any studies of splash damage in RL situations. It does occur. So it is a viable way to open walls.
And yes, hitting the foundation is a way to destroy a wall. Think about all the houses that sink into sinkholes or sappers that dig to the foundation to destroy it.
Nothing wrong with this at all.

On Langor tower it was to much of splash on the vertical axys, catas down the cliff still hitting walls, while AC’s would not hit catas downthere AC vertical axys arrows range limit .
was it fixed of still makes wonders?
@Sich.7103, on some places is a bit to much, but that is how the game is ment to be played, find cheap tricks and use them be clever, on the old alpine BL keep you could build catas inside wall and stop if someone was near :P.

We only recently uncovered what was causing this, and are working on a fix. The issue occurs when attacking any wide breakable gadget (wall/gate) that is positioned on a diagonal. The volume in which a hit is detected ends up being larger than is intended.
This also happens on South Wall of Red EBG Keep where the attackers will position a catapult by the lower cliff…
Have a look at that too please, Tyler.
Also happend on old map, the Tower South of hills if you hit in midle off opening it hit all walls around, Crag when they trebed from Camp to the east it hit all walls and so on.
They should make this damage hurt objects from all sides (not just enemy stuff), so they blow themselves up. This point blank catapult stuff makes a nonsense of the whole affair!
what do I spy with my little eye?!
a constructive, informative, precise, …..well ANSWER from a Dev in WvW forum?
what happened? stares
I do not mean to be sarcastic, I was really surprised looking in here after some time. and thank you for the information!

Yes friendly fire (at least the siege used to fire) could be very interesting.

brb loading my alt account (on the opposite server). And those muppets even build my AC (which turns their trebs into dust).
Clever idea…realy clever
I speak about friendly fire on yourself.
Then when you shoot with your cata the splash damage will hit you and your cata.
No one else.
And friendly fire could be fine, a lot of game have friendly fire.
But then anet need to add some mechanics to ban people who make too much friendly fire in a small amount of time. With increase ban time.
Then you can add friendly fire to AC, to make happy all the guy who hate the AC… This will reduce the use of this siege in fight.

Friendly fire is totaly fine in a game system were I can chose with which guys I’m in a group (EVE online for example). In GW2 however we can’t.
I explained before that I will simply load an alt account on the sieging servers side, build an AC and will just ruin someones day.
That ban mechanic you talking about is hilarious
Planetside 2 have friendly fire, and you can’t choose your team, and the game work fine…

They seem to comment on constructive posts that have very little controversy or forum fighting occurring. Perhaps they are teaching us to be civilized again…..perhaps.

You could also build catas on side of GArri cliff to hit inner and outer. Rarely would people check this spot and if they did you could hide inside the wall.
….. And Elementalist.
that is an awesome spot. i’ll have to remember that when alpine BLs come back. XD
