An Epic 80 in every flavor (Five Thousand Finishers)
Q:
So I think I stand with the rest of the WvW community when I say there should be stiff sanctions for this sort of behavior. My server in particular had trolls blocking our portals with merchants & seige so our guild groups would be fractured on reset. We’ve seen the posts of characters on servers destroying golems and wasting supply on seige around depots.
Just wondering if anything can or will be done to discourage this sort of behavior. It really destroys the integrity of the game.
Trolls will be trolls. It’s how you work around the problem that shows the integrity of your core WvW players.
I don’t think stuff should be placed on or within a certain distance of the ramps to the portals.
I do like being able to click flags and bonfires so I don’t want the whole area blocked. Have the no stuff zone go to the fountain so that we can put stuff near the fountain.
Anet needs to jump on this. It’s too easy for one defective with a throwaway account to wreak serious havoc in WvW by wasting supplies, trashing golems, etc. Every game has trolls, but this game is set up in a way that gives trolls the power to have a big impact.
I don’t know whether the answer is bannings, achievement thresholds or other requirements before you can build, a robust player ‘report’ function or… something else. I do know this is important.
The solution seems to be pretty simple. Don’t allow new characters for one week or the duration of league play (since they let players know who their server will be playing for several weeks) to drop plans, start upgrades, or control golems. That seems to cover the vast majority of serious problems. Let them spend supplies on repairs, to build siege that other players have dropped, or to man other siege weapons because, even though there are cases where that can be abused, those are viable things a new player could need and want to do. If they still have a serious problem after that, they could adjust the restrictions from there.
The best answer I have seen for this is to bar WvW play for at a minimum of 1 week after transferring.
But lets also look at this from another side, not saying it is right or wrong, however it could be a part of the intended play since it is not against the ToS. Sabotage would happen in the natural order of war and there are many who apparently agree with this type of play otherwise they wouldn’t do it or encourage those that do.
It is against the rules; there is no other side beyond dishonest interpretation, though difficult to prove sabotage unless it’s really blatant like suiciding 10000 golems or whatnot with a new account. If it was intended gameplay, you’d be able to kill spies or at least out them and get them thrown out.
While participating in Plaver-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match or alter or manipulate the rankings or ratings of the ladder. This also includes disrupting other people’s game experience by not actively participating in matches in good faith, a.k.a leeching.

really? cause to me that says PvP and specifically PvP, not WvW.. again not saying right or wrong, but if it were against the ToS why are we not seeing an option to report for cheating/sabotage in the list they provide?

Err, if they wanted to specifically mention tPvP and SpvP, they would have, but it’s clearly referring to any environment where players fight each other. Sure, it’s funny to joke about nobody actually pvping in wvw, but with the construction of an arena in Obsidian Sanctum just for this purpose, I think the intent is perfectly clear. You should remember, there was an outcry during a gvg where an Anet rep suspecting kill trading in wvw… obviously it was just a misunderstanding, but these rules do exist.
PvP is unique in the fact that it uses PvP-only equipment as well as special instance matches as well as auto-balance for fair matches as well as no PvE material in which WvW does have it. WvW is not pure PvP so not every PvP rule can be in effect in WvW. Plus the arena was added for unofficial GvG matches, if they wanted to make it official then it would be its own instance and not a free for all.
That doesn’t justify anything. it doesn’t matter if WvW isn’t pure pvp. It still has player vs player gameplay.
