How are the matchups going to be determined this time for the WvW tournament?

Bottom 9 are Bronze
Middle 9 are Silver
Top 6 (or 9 if EU) are Gold

And again this will be farcical in NA gold with maguuma seemingly not losing enough points to drop down. Anet really have to bite the bullet and intervene.

That’s how the leagues are determined, but what about the OP’s question of matchups? Yes, week1 just the starting rankings by the glicko system, but based on this quote:

“The shorter format will ensure that worlds will not be repeatedly matched against one another, which will more closely resemble a true Swiss-style tournament. Each matchup will be unique, and every win—or upset—will make a huge difference!”

It sounds like in Silver and Bronze leagues, each server will play all 8 other servers (never facing the same one twice). Therefore, I would think the 4 weeks of matchups should already be set, and would be nice to see that released…

When they did that on Season 1, people complained… I don’t think they will do that again to see what’s the reaction (problably more complaints but who knows).

But they said this tournament would be swiss style like Season 2, which conflict with the statement that “a server won’t face another one twice”.

Oh right, I remember that now. So if it is Swiss style, then the next match up in Silver and Bronze leagues will be based on how everyone finished this week. So all first place finishers will matchup, all second place will matchup as well as all third place?

Week 3 will then have the possibility of playing against a server that we met in week 1 or 2 right?

Devon, could you clarify something. Of course there is no way to prevent two servers that have faced each other from seeing each other again; but is it going to be setup so that even if the Swiss system calls for it, that there will be no repeat matchup?

For what i got, it will be the same as season 2 swiss style… If the server scores lead to it, the matchup will repeat. But since it’s only a 4 week tournament, we won’t have 4-5 weeks of the same matchup like on season 2.

A specific match won’t happen more than twice on that season, unless the score on the match severely change.

I was thinking this is crucial in NA Gold League where any T1 were to get more than 1 match with two T2 servers is guaranteed victory (or at least it would if there was not one server clearly dominating.)

The most fair situation would be the match this week, and then every T1 gets two T2 (and vice versa) for the remaining 3 weeks and then it meets the conditions of no-repeat matchups and Swiss-Style. However if they let the glicko decide then we’ll just repeat the S2 formula where SoS will just trade places with 3rd place for weeks 2 and 4.

That will give #3 an advantage in that they only need to get 2nd in week 3 despite putting in less effort in every other match.

It is swiss style, that is correct. Certainly worlds might get matched up against one another more than once, but the nature of the matchmaking is going to minimize that, especially in conjunction with the 4 week timeframe.

Unless you guys have put some extra constraints in, entire matchups are just going to repeat themselves.

eg.

YB SBI NSP (1st 2nd 3rd)
DB IOJ HOD (1st 2nd 3rd)
CD DR BP (1st 2nd 3rd)

Same matchups again 2 weeks later…

YB DB CD
SBI DR IOJ
NSP HOD BP

and then probably the same one as week 2…. again.

It’s hardly like sport where underdog teams are going to cause upset. Not unless they’re allowed a bunch of extra players on the field anyway…

Look at the EU matchups this week and compare them to the first week. This is just joke.

I guess T1 will be identical. But how should it be, this is the most balanced match and it should never had a different one.
