Just having nabbed myself a few boosters from a lucky black lion streak, I’ve noticed that you can use the combat boosters (Strength and regeneration) in world vs world. Effectively allowing people who spend real money (Increasingly an option due to inflating gem – gold conversion rates) to gain an advantage in world vs world.

To me, this seems rather wrong, even if the benefit is small, it can make a difference and allow a battle to be swayed unfairly towards those that have out of game resources to spend (money).

I would suggest disabling such boosters whiles within the confines of world vs world (not just in Spvp).

They shouldn’t be working in PvP. If they are, you should report it. Arenanet has been pretty clear that any “boost” stuff you can buy in the cash shop should not affect PvP.

The regeneration booster is most definitely working within the eternal battlegrounds. Upon taking damage from NPCs, siege equipment, or players I am receiving the passive regeneration from the regeneration booster. (As a Mesmer, on my own so there are no other regeneration effects).

boosters and food should be in wvw, also players can just pjt the regeneration boon on or take passive regen skills and/or traits. if food and boosters make u feel like wvw is completely ruined to you, just go spvp. also of you arent aware players can buy gems for coin, so players not spending real money also can use boosters. i see no problem

They are disabled in WvW.

If yours is working it is a bug.

There is a good chance you have picked up regeneration from some other source

No, because the tooltip says “It will be disabled when you enter in competitive PvP”, which Anet doesn’t really consider WvW to be… Just like food buffs and all other stuff.

I’m pretty sure it’s not permanent.

Based on the description they’re the same boosters that have been available from Black Lion Chests and other places (dailies/monthlies for example) for ages now. Each booster only lasts 1 hour, so you’d need to spend a lot to keep it up permanently.

It’s not ideal for a game that’s supposed to be avoiding pay-to-win but it’s hard to imagine a situation where a 5% bonus for 1 hour would make a significant difference.

WvW doesn’t follow any pvp philosophy. Basically it’s GW2’s Open World PvP.

There are some differences between PvE and WvW as far as buffs and things go (Ranger Pets don’t get the same health in WvW they do in PvE, etc.) but they are minimal.

I do realize you’d need to spend a load of dough to keep them up permanently but the point remains. If you dish out the dollars youre gonna get a edge in wvw.

I find the notion of money = more power a bit disturbing in a game that has big focus on pvp. After all most of the gem stuff are supposed to bypass timegating, add convenience and unlock cosmetic stuff.

Yes. Yes it does, and if everyone adopts that attitude and perspective on the subject, the imbalance of which you speak of will only get worse.

Honestly I don’t see a difference with using or not the boosters, with the gold sink WvW is, don’t think many players would spend their own money with boosters that only remains for 1h. I can agree that would be ‘unfair’ in a small scale fight as well as a duel, but the later can have their own rules if a consensus is reached.

I have almost 5k hours of gameplay and I’m in the same boat as Azyume on that. I’ve seen so few people playing with these boosters that I often forget that I have about 60 of these…

Technically it is “p2w”, but would the presence of these boosters actually make a significant difference except in roaming? I don’t think +5% armor and damage is going to keep you alive if a zerg runs you down.

Also, a single, or say a few players getting +5% HP/Damage or +66HP regen per sec will in most cases not tip the scale of balance. Largely because these boosters are open for use by all professions, regardless of level, build or time played. Boosters are cheap to get and you usually get lots of them, so arguing that they are reserved for only rich kids is a bad argument.

You spending no money on them does not void the points made by other people in this thread. Please read the thread fully.
Blchests/dailies have a chance to drop them and farming blkeys by creating a new toon and doing the questline till you get a key is not a viable way to get them..

I’ve played wvw for as long as the gamemode has existed and ive only seen a handful of these boosters around but i do see abuse potential/balance issues. Imagine a bursty toon with rejuvenation, def & str booster.. 100 health per second is nothing minor coupled with dmg reduction imho (also massive stacking with healing signet,shadow’s Rejuvenation,backback regenerator etc)

The rejuvenation booster is 100hp/s (so a 500hp/sec healsig or any regen passive is fine?. Please share your method of getting str/defence/rejuvenation boosters cheap/easy so casual players like me that have put thousands of hours in to pvp/wvw aspects of this game can enjoy your gargantuan wisdom.

Point remains. If you got a lot of money you can get +5% attack/defence in a game mode that is focused on hunting down conscious entities and not preprogrammed ai.

I would think wvw has MUCH worse issues to worry about and those boosters, if ever, only make a small difference while roaming. It turns out “roaming” isn’t a featured game mode, anet thinks of wvw as zerg fights and no amount of boosters there will save you from bad positioning.

Regardless, buying BLkeys costs 2100 gems for 25, which is roughly 25 euro? and you’re not exactly going to stockpile on boosters because they are random and stuff and might not even get what you wanted.

I WISH people would spend crazy amounts of money to get almost irrelevant boosts in wvw, maybe that would draw more resources into the game mode.

It’s not even close to P2W guys, at least not as close as everyone thought Ascended gear was when it came out. There’s the obvious “Well I can buy it with gold!” option which sucks, and is really unreasonable for you to make enough gold in wvw to cover the conversion rate but it still makes it fair. Then you have the “But it provides an advantage”, but does it really? If you die against someone quickly, then you’re just going to die slightly slower or deal more damage before you go.

They do not do enofe and i think some of the buff say vs mobs only. Your more likely to be worst off because you have an up level or all in glass build to be a railybot then any gear set up or buff.

Let’s face reality… This thread is over a year old. Anet didn’t removed these buffs back then, so I’m assuming they don’t think they are a problem. Why would they remove them now if WvW is basically the same as a year ago?

And like I already said, it makes the difference in a close fight. It doesn’t have to hypothetically swing a 5v1 in favor of the one guy to be unfair. If it gives you an advantage in a 1v1 in exchange for gems, it’s P2W, which is bad.

The boosters work in wvw, yes, but it’s not something a casual can pick up and start pwning in wvw. The strenght booster allows you to do “5 % more damage to monsters”, it doesnt say that until you actually use it and you hover over buff. So you will do 5 % more damage to npc’s / random mobs in wvw. So the armor and rejuvenating booster are the only useful ones. And it’s not really pay to win, instead of someone doing 1 k damage to you, he will do 950 damage if you have an active armor booster, who cares. Rejuvenation can be good tho, but i would never spend that kind of gold to heal 100 hp extra.

Ascended gear can absolutely be acquired by buying gems. And guard stacks can be had by simply zerging in EOTM. They both also give a far bigger benefit than a limited time 5% booster to a single stat. Full bloodlust stacks give more of a boost.

Also please keep your strawmam argument to yourself about some hypothetical 100% stat boost. I say bring on anyone who wants to waste their money for 5%, because I’m confident I don’t need to buy my victories.

Anyway like I said, if you’re so concerned about 5%, bring a friend. Or go to pvp. WvW is not made for people who require an even playing field, it is by it’s very nature unfair.

You can get the boosters outside gem store. I have heaps of them, got from achievement chests.

Yes, WvW has always had a P2W component. Play on reset and you’ll often find players running every buff and booster in game, except swimming. Just target one and the buff’s span over half my screen! Add Legendaries, Ascended gear, and siege, and WvW certainly becomes more about “stuff” than skill. But, we’re all pretty much used to it since it’s always been that way.

From my 20 months playing WvW I can say that I can use the fingers of only one hand to count how many players I saw and fought against which were using boosters.

Honestly I don’t see a difference with using or not the boosters, with the gold sink WvW is, don’t think many players would spend their own money with boosters that only remains for 1h. I can agree that would be ‘unfair’ in a small scale fight as well as a duel, but the later can have their own rules if a consensus is reached.
